...I wouldn't want to witness that and I'm sorry you did...

Oh I didn't, and I'm sure glad I didn't coz I would've been a basket case, AFTER I killed the dog of course. I didn't even want my nephew to tell me anything about it, more than he already did. My concern about the dog biting his kid was because of a comment he made while telling me about the attack. He said that he tried to get the cat away from the dog while he was mauling it and that the dog growled and snapped at him. I know it was the heat of the battle for the dog, and I love dogs too, but that just didn't sound good to me. I never had a dog that you couldn't take anything away from, even right out of their mouths, at any time, without so much as a cross look. It just scares me.

It's a bad scene.... I hope he doesn't bring the dog again, and I hope you and your nephew can get through this... I know I'd feel awful if my dog did that to someone else's pet.

You probably aren't in the mood for a dog vs. cat story, but I do have a funny one where the cat won. I heard a cat fight outside, and my cat, and a neighbor cat were in the heat of a nasty, screeching fur-flying fight. I opened the door, and my little cocker mix, Zulu, keen on the sound of it, bolted right out between my feet and headed for the noise.

As she approached at full speed, barking, the cats broke up, mine took off, and the neighbor cat just hackled up and froze facing this oncoming dog.

The funny part was watching Zulu come to grips with the idea that she didn't have a plan for this possibility... she thought the cats would ~run~. Zulu started putting on the brakes, and she looked like a cartoon animal, her little legs spinning out in reverse. She didn't stop in time and that cat jumped on her and she started screaming. I was still laughing when I arrived and managed to get the cat to hiss off. And Zulu actually ended up having to go to the vet for a scratched lens. But I'll never forget the skidding-legs-running-backward this-doesn't-look-right-I-better-Stoooooppp imagery!
