The FreeRepublic Saddle Club - Who's Who *pics*

This is a horse chat thread where we share ideas, ask for input from other horsemen, and talk about our riding and horse-keeping. We have a lot of different kinds of riders and horses, and a lot to share. In the previous threads we have had a great time talking through lessons, training, horse lamenesses, illnesses and pregnancies... and always sharing pictures and stories.

I always have a link to this thread on my profile page, so if you have something to say and can't find the thread in latest posts… look for it there and wake the thread up!

I also have a ping list for horse threads that are of interest, and MissTargets will now be pinging everyone most mornings. Let MissTargets and/or me know if you would like to be on the ping list. As FreeRepublic is a political site, our politics and other issues will probably blend in…. There are many issues for horsemen that touch politics… land use, animal rights/abuse cases that make the news…. Legislation that might affect horse owners.

So... like the previous threads, this is intended as fun place to come and share stories, pictures, questions and chit-chat, unguided and unmoderated and that we come together here as friends. There are lots of ways of doing things and we all have our quirks, tricks and specialties that are neat to learn about.

Is it normal for one bag to be bigger than the other? Sarah Lees is. Not much, but one flat like just skin but the other fills like fluid in it. I'm glad she's showing signs of heat. I've been checking her because she might have been exposed while she was gone.

LOL - well, explain to SL that she needs to wait until March or April before she starts getting excited. She doesn't want a fall baby, even if she thinks she does.

Good morning everyone! Pouring out here.... and I'm about to go out and clear out my drainages in the mud!

Ruthy just called, she had her first ride at the new stable today... got rained out there too, even in Florida. :~D

I don't think having a baby was what she was thinking about.

Well I didn't get to ride either. They were late feeding. Then a foal in a round pen and lessons in the arena. Sarah Lee needed lunging after Okie. It was getting hot and felt like noon and we had to go. I got in the truck and it was 10 oclock. I told Eddie to turn around and take me back. He said "hey, I didn't say it was noon. You did" He knew though! I'm gonna try again this evening.

It was gloomy with a steady drizzle when we left.

Thankfully, it lightened up and then stopped once we got the horses brushed and saddled. I really liked how the lady who runs the place insisted that all of the riders learn how to care for the horses. Rebecca used a curry comb for the first time. And so did I. *grin*

Today she rode a handsome pony named Rocky. She wasn't happy about being led rather than riding herself around, but this was her first "official" lesson, so all rules had to be followed.

They had a variety of horses there. The paint is Sassy, the palomino is Chey-Annie and the liver chestnut is Dancer. They have about 25 horses in all, but only a few were brought out today.

I really liked Trigger. I hope to get to ride him when my lessons begin.

This place was very pretty with lots of grass and well-kept stalls. The horses seemed happy too, despite the rain that reappeared, forcing us back inside.

I took the chicken coop picture for 2J. :-D

Weekend saddle club ping!

Pictures above from Ruthy's first visit to the new stable.

Looks nice Ruthy! -and the variety of horses is really good for you to get a feel for the different types out there. Cute pony.

Good afternoon - rained here this morning too. Wish I had never watched the movie "Day After Tomorrow". I'm beginning to get more paranoid than I already was.

It'll never happen :~D

It's just sopping here.

BTW... my vet did call back regarding my message about the pony. He didn't know of any illness that might cause the obsessive salt licking, and he didn't suspect anything besides that is causing the excessive peeing.

He thinks its behavioral. So far today, she's been out at pasture rather than in the lean-to licking, but the plan if she persists is to just take all the salt away for a few weeks and see if that breaks the cycle.

I ~really~ liked it. And so did Rebecca.

Susie (who runs the place) is a gem. She takes the time to explain how things are done and why. And she's a constant teacher with pop quizzes throughout the whole lesson.

Rebecca picked up a lot of new terminology and is using it now simply to show off to her dad and grandma. *laughing*

I didn't sit on a horse today, but I learned a lot.

I'm looking forward to our next visit.

Good thing I didn't ride today or there wouldn't have been as many pictures.

Then, I'd have to suffer the Wrath of Hair and get hit with a fish. *smiling*

Well, you can always take your momma to snap pics. Hopefully she would be a little calmer and quieter than mine.

Oh! I forgot to mention the part about Rebecca getting bit.

Susie's husband bought her an 11-month old colt named Avocado Jack. Really handsome boy but hasnt learned good horsie manners just yet. ;-)

Rebecca walked over to his stall with a friend and was petting him when he decided to go naughty and bit her arm.

It isn't bad, just a bruise. And I'm glad the lesson was learned without too much damage.

Susie felt just terrible, but I assured her that this was part of the deal. Now Rebecca will know better than to just assume she can walk up and pet any horse without being aware of its mood and watching its mouth and feet.

hehehehe...

My mom has a bad back and is currently nursing a broken elbow. She wouldn't go within 50 yards of horses on a good day, so I doubt she'd be so inclined now.

The elbow is, of course, "Bush's fault". *looks around for flying flounder*

I was far away doing my own thing but Reba was telling me that a mare came up to the pasture she was standing in taking pictures and she started running yelling "he's gonna get me" As my sister said though, my mom had a blast and she's fun. I guess we'll take her back. She's probably still talking about our outing.
