We used to have President's and Veteran's day off. They changed it to personal holidays, that you can take off whenever. Much better to take off in the nicer weather.

I thought about you when there was an preview on Animal Plant, for a program on March 8th (I think, search didn't bring anything up.)..anyway, it's a Championship Jumper show. If I see more, I will let you know.

Good morning.

We're suppose to get a bit above freezing today:).

I'm hanging out with Jenny all day.

You all have a nice day.

Mornin'!

I was supposed to go into work today, but my child care fell through.

Fortunately, I only have 2 payrolls today so it isn't ~that~ big of a deal that I'm out. :-)

The main thing to remember about buffalo or bison is that they are of a wild heritage. Buying them young and raising them will somewhat tame them but the possibility of them being aggressive is always there. They are better managed in groups. I would suggest no less than three. Females are smaller and usually less aggressive. Build an open shed for shelter and not try stabling them in a closed area. These animals are large and are not usually managed well in confined spaces. Because of their size and weight a five or six strand fence with fewer spaces between posts is also suggested. If you wish to have other livestock such as horses or mules it is advisable to keep them separate to avoid injuries. Other than that they are beautiful to look at and should be a joy to have around. Good luck on getting your livestock.

...I am moving to Wyoming (40 ac spread) and I would like to have a Mule (in lieu of horse)...

A couple of the guys I occasionally ride with have mules...

The one on the left is a draft mule(the guy riding him is over 6' and 300"lbs) and the one on the right is a gaited mule (Gaited Jack X Walking Horse). I've heard lots of good things about mules like their surefootedmess but I personally prefer gaited horses for trail riding, although if you're set on a mule, a gaited one would be my choice. Much easier on the backside! To each his own I guess. Welcome to the thread!

I think the domestic buffalo that have been farm raised and carefully selected for docile temperaments for several generations might be ok, but I'd definately want to do lots of checking on the bloodlines before I bought.

My dentist tried raising a few, along with his cattle, but gave it up when one of them almost gored him, ran through a 6-strand electrified barbed wire fence like it wasn't there, and kept on going. They never did find it. So be careful what you wish for! ;o)

There's a guy around here who has a few buffalo. I don't know him or anything about them. I've just driven past the place. They appear to be purebred but I don't know for sure if they are. They may be crossbred with domestic cattle, I just don't know. But he has them in just regular barbed wire fence along side a county road. So there might yet be hope for your wife's dream. Just do your research and you'll do fine.

Do your own research, that is the best thing to do. My boss raises them. I have talked to him and another buffalo rancher about mishaps. They both have different suggestions on the fences as do I. I'm no expert because I don't have the animal yet either. I just gave my honest opinion after I researched the animals myself.

LOL! She told me yesterday that QMB is messing with her and she may loose her copay insurance, that is why she wants the surgery now.

I've always wanted to take that mule trail down the Grand Canyon. It's just too close to Vegas though.
