The FreeRepublic Saddle Club - Who's Who *pics*

This is a horse chat thread where we share ideas, ask for input from other horsemen, and talk about our riding and horse-keeping. We have a lot of different kinds of riders and horses, and a lot to share. In the previous threads we have had a great time talking through lessons, training, horse lamenesses, illnesses and pregnancies... and always sharing pictures and stories.

I always have a link to this thread on my profile page, so if you have something to say and can't find the thread in latest posts… look for it there and wake the thread up!

I also have a ping list for horse threads that are of interest, and MissTargets will now be pinging everyone most mornings. Let MissTargets and/or me know if you would like to be on the ping list. As FreeRepublic is a political site, our politics and other issues will probably blend in…. There are many issues for horsemen that touch politics… land use, animal rights/abuse cases that make the news…. Legislation that might affect horse owners.

So... like the previous threads, this is intended as fun place to come and share stories, pictures, questions and chit-chat, unguided and unmoderated and that we come together here as friends. There are lots of ways of doing things and we all have our quirks, tricks and specialties that are neat to learn about.

LOL. I'm right brained. I think I better stick to cryptograms.

Good morning,

Cold here and snowing again. No baby yet. Maybe she decided to wait for spring :)

I don't know why I think you need stronger fencing for buffalo, I just imagine them pushing fencing more than cattle do. Anything with horns can be hard on fencing.

Why two? Are you raising them to eat, or just want to see the buffalo roam?

If you just want a nice quiet walk, a mule is perfect... Their other, faster gaits are often awkward and reluctant, but they'll walk all day long over any kind of terrain. I love my horse, but after spending a week in hard mountain country with a group that had both horses and mules, I can say without hesitation mules are superior for that.

There are great groups to join, such as BackCountry Horsemen, who are often groups of mature, good people who gather to go on rides together. You can see and learn trails in the area you end up in, and learn alot from the experience riding with others too. I'd check it out when you get there. :~D

Heh... I was thinking two was a small number, actually ;~D

If you're going to the trouble to fence for buffalo, get a herd ;~D

Here's my herd on a cold morning just now (14 degrees) ... Our two horses are in the background, our pony having a drink and playing in the water trough while it's still steamy.

I don't know if you read the recent posts... but we aren't well prepared for these occasional cold snaps in my part of Washington, so our hose is frozen, and we have been carrying hot water out from the house in buckets to keep their water unhfrozen. ;~\

Well, I did one with it set on Easy, and figured it out in about 10 minutes... At first I didn't realize you couldn't repeat numbers within the smaller blocks so I kept getting errors... :~D

It's pretty fun. Haven't seen this kind of puzzle before :~D
