The FreeRepublic Saddle Club - Who's Who *pics*

This is a horse chat thread where we share ideas, ask for input from other horsemen, and talk about our riding and horse-keeping. We have a lot of different kinds of riders and horses, and a lot to share. In the previous threads we have had a great time talking through lessons, training, horse lamenesses, illnesses and pregnancies... and always sharing pictures and stories.

I always have a link to this thread on my profile page, so if you have something to say and can't find the thread in latest posts… look for it there and wake the thread up!

I also have a ping list for horse threads that are of interest, and MissTargets will now be pinging everyone most mornings. Let MissTargets and/or me know if you would like to be on the ping list. As FreeRepublic is a political site, our politics and other issues will probably blend in…. There are many issues for horsemen that touch politics… land use, animal rights/abuse cases that make the news…. Legislation that might affect horse owners.

So... like the previous threads, this is intended as fun place to come and share stories, pictures, questions and chit-chat, unguided and unmoderated and that we come together here as friends. There are lots of ways of doing things and we all have our quirks, tricks and specialties that are neat to learn about.

Have I mentioned I hate winter?

I don't think I've heard you say that before, no ;~D

All the best to your mare and foal, we'll want pictures just as soon as you can post them, of course :~D

Another thing that can't be supported with statistics but you can't convience me that more babies aren't born during cold fronts:')

I'll post pictures as soon as possible :) if we don't all freeze to death first. I don't know why horsemen want all the babies so early in the year. There are no points for weanlings in the breed associations anyway. Thankfully, the other two are due in May.

It always seems they come during the worst weather doesn't it? Sort of like the full moon, can't prove it but it sure does effect people badly.

I'm with you.. These few months between now and warm weather just don't matter that much after the first year ;~D

I think I'd shoot for June for a Washington baby... it's just nicer for everyone if it's not cold, and for us, rainy and muddy.

I would love to have everyone come here, and probably have enough horses to get half of us up. And room to park any number of trailers for anyone trailering in :)

Say - now there's a real cool idea :~D You're about as centrally located as we could hope for, and flights are easy into Reno or Vegas..... which are you closest to?

I used to work in an ER that saw a lot of trauma. Full moon and cold. You are going to be busy.

Exactly, May and June are so much nicer and the probability of bad weather is really slim. It's not nearly so miserable doing the midwifing (?) and warm enough to spend plenty of time with the new one before they are very old.

An hour from the Reno airport and it's a beautiful drive. Lots of other things to see and do here also, including wild horses in the hills.

I've never been to Reno.

I have heard that so often, medical personnel and law enforcement. And personal experience dealing with the public tells me most of them are about half werewolf during a full moon.

It's really a nice city. Reno has a lot of casinos of course, and shows but not quite the tourist trap that Vegas is - more tourists up here are from stateside somewhere rather than overseas. Reno made it's name as a divorce capital :)

Lake Tahoe is just a few minutes up the mountain.

I got a 500 dollar bonus today. My husband said I should spend it on me. I can't think of anything I need though. My saddle is still ok. My briddle is new. I thought maybe some new stirrups.....Don't know. I'll probably just buy clothes for the grandbabies.

Oh, that is so cool. Well, now - you could always get SL some treats. And earmark part of it for a down payment on your land.

That is really a nice bonus :)

The best part was a note from my boss saying what a good job I've done this year. That made me feel really good. A 10 dollar bag of treats would last them a long time. I'm just not good with spending money on me.

The stirrups that endurance riders use are really comfortable and they are pretty expensive. The sleazy hoods and blankets are so cool - and really great colors, also expensive. You can always use more gloves :)

It's great that your boss recognizes and rewards good work - it makes it so much nicer to go to work everyday that way.
