The FreeRepublic Saddle Club - Who's Who *pics*

This is a horse chat thread where we share ideas, ask for input from other horsemen, and talk about our riding and horse-keeping. We have a lot of different kinds of riders and horses, and a lot to share. In the previous threads we have had a great time talking through lessons, training, horse lamenesses, illnesses and pregnancies... and always sharing pictures and stories.

I always have a link to this thread on my profile page, so if you have something to say and can't find the thread in latest posts… look for it there and wake the thread up!

I also have a ping list for horse threads that are of interest, and MissTargets will now be pinging everyone most mornings. Let MissTargets and/or me know if you would like to be on the ping list. As FreeRepublic is a political site, our politics and other issues will probably blend in…. There are many issues for horsemen that touch politics… land use, animal rights/abuse cases that make the news…. Legislation that might affect horse owners.

So... like the previous threads, this is intended as fun place to come and share stories, pictures, questions and chit-chat, unguided and unmoderated and that we come together here as friends. There are lots of ways of doing things and we all have our quirks, tricks and specialties that are neat to learn about.

He's laid down before, but not often, and not in that spot. My experience has been they usually lay down in the same spot when they lay, Rocky always lays in his stall. The few times I've seen Harley lay it's been in his stall. I don't know why, but the last week or so, he's been laying down for a short period in the mornings in this new spot. The first time, I thought something must be wrong.

No didn't seem too.

Last week when Celia was here she said she thought our winter was over, because one of her horses was overnight shedding big time. I noticed the last few days Rocky has started, but not alot. Rocky always sheds out way ahead of any other horses we've ever had. Personnally I don't think it has anything to do with the weather, I think it has to do mainly with each individaly horse, and how they react to the lenghteing or shortening of the daylight.

I'll bet it's a good soft dusty spot. Mine have a place like that right out in front of the barn where they roll. Their "napping in the sun" spot is out by the driveway, kind of up on a small rise. They look so funny when they're all laying down like that coz they get fairly close together.

Well, if we had any sun today, and/or it was cold then that's what I'd think too:) But it's very warm here right now, no coats needed at all, not even long sleeves.

It is supposedly more related to the hours of daylight than the temperature.. Mine are shedding, particularly when they've warmed up in the sun with their blankets on and then I take 'em off. Bay rolled the other day and he changed the color of the ground he dropped so much hair. ;~D

Gonna be in the teens tonight... so they'll go probably from being able to run naked today back to double blankets for the night.

Well darn! It's an mp3 file. It should be titled "Bob Rivers - Cheney's Got a Gun.mp3". Maybe you can find it somewhere on the internet coz it's really funny.

Hey, just a FYI:)

Country mart has their boneless, skinless chicken breasts on sale for $1.49 a lb. No tenders tho. And you have to have one of their stupid savings cards. If you don't have one you just go to the service desk fill out a app, and they give it to you right then, no biggy.

Hey, do you think this weatherbeeta fly sheet would work for keeping culicoides off? It says it's a heavy fine mesh. I'd get the hood to go with it too, but I gotta do something for Miss Grace before those little buggers get bad again. I'm not going to let her get eat up this year!

I just went and bought 30 lbs. That's cheaper then we paid at Albertsons isn't it?

Mack is actually the one that was reading the ads:). I just trash them.

Wow! That's cheap! The best I've ever managed to do around here is $1.98. I'd stock up too at that price.

I thought it a good price too, and it was Tyson Chicken. I'd have bought more, but I don't have a lot of freezer space, just what's above the fridge. We keep talking about buying a freezer then raising our own beef, or at least buying it from a butcher.

Yeah, I don't have a freezer either. I've thought about buying a chest type freezer and putting it in our shed. But then I'd have to make room in the shed and I've got way too much junk in there for that! ;o)
