The FreeRepublic Saddle Club - Who's Who *pics*

This is a horse chat thread where we share ideas, ask for input from other horsemen, and talk about our riding and horse-keeping. We have a lot of different kinds of riders and horses, and a lot to share. In the previous threads we have had a great time talking through lessons, training, horse lamenesses, illnesses and pregnancies... and always sharing pictures and stories.

I always have a link to this thread on my profile page, so if you have something to say and can't find the thread in latest posts… look for it there and wake the thread up!

I also have a ping list for horse threads that are of interest, and MissTargets will now be pinging everyone most mornings. Let MissTargets and/or me know if you would like to be on the ping list. As FreeRepublic is a political site, our politics and other issues will probably blend in…. There are many issues for horsemen that touch politics… land use, animal rights/abuse cases that make the news…. Legislation that might affect horse owners.

So... like the previous threads, this is intended as fun place to come and share stories, pictures, questions and chit-chat, unguided and unmoderated and that we come together here as friends. There are lots of ways of doing things and we all have our quirks, tricks and specialties that are neat to learn about.

I think they're trying to achieve the opposite of that... to extend the stride in the back, even if it means he forges.

But that's what I don't get. Doesn't the toe hit first??? I'm not good at mechanics:)

Yeah - he'd walk on them if they were in the front... if he's reaching like you want him to. My shoer did put long tails on Bay in the front when I first got him from Dick, he was too low in the heel and he wanted the heel to grow. But they didn't stick out that much, and he said there was a risk he'd pull them.

I don't know ;~D

It's funny, when I took him shooting the first day he was here visiting... we laughed about how people wondered if it was safe for me to have him come visit, yet I was the one taking him into the woods with a bunch of guns ;~D

Not unless you got something wrong going on. One point they stressed over and over in this clinic I went to was that you want a heel-first landing on all four feet, but especially on the front.

If you think of it and it's not awkward, the next time your farrier comes, ask him what he would do with a forging horse, with a moderatly long back. I'd like to know how wide spread this thinking is that I've gotten from Teri, and the young farrier down at the ride last summer.

I will ask him about it, and tell him what the vet said. Remind me if I mention he's coming.

I guess I've just never paid attention. Now that I'm thinking about it, that's right, the heel will land first. I had another brain laspe:)

We went shooting as our first date :~D Don't remember quite why we did that first, but we had plans for the other days and it was a nice easy local outing :~D

It's one way to establish trust ;~D

Here's us on our first date :~D

We took this picture to scare his dad with... His dad's not a real fan of guns :~D Probably thought his son was runnin' off with a crazy woman.

Thanks, Cindy.

If it turns out even half as wonderful for us as it did for Hair and ecurbh, I'll consider myself truly blessed. :-D
