This is a horse chat thread where we share ideas, ask for input from other horsemen, and talk about our riding and horse-keeping. We have a lot of different kinds of riders and horses, and a lot to share. In the previous threads we have had a great time talking through lessons, training, horse lamenesses, illnesses and pregnancies... and always sharing pictures and stories.
I always have a link to this thread on my profile page, so if you have something to say and can't find the thread in latest posts look for it there and wake the thread up!
I also have a ping list for horse threads that are of interest, and MissTargets will now be pinging everyone most mornings. Let MissTargets and/or me know if you would like to be on the ping list. As FreeRepublic is a political site, our politics and other issues will probably blend in . There are many issues for horsemen that touch politics land use, animal rights/abuse cases that make the news . Legislation that might affect horse owners.
So... like the previous threads, this is intended as fun place to come and share stories, pictures, questions and chit-chat, unguided and unmoderated and that we come together here as friends. There are lots of ways of doing things and we all have our quirks, tricks and specialties that are neat to learn about.

New folk and occasional posters, jump right in and introduce yourselves, tell us about your horses, and post pictures if you've got them!
Good list there, N.Beaujon. At a horse sale:
That horse doesn't "look" so good.= Horse is BLIND!
run out of patience with most of our animals tonight.
I hear ya Hair. Kid's Healer (intact) is driving everyone nuts, including my poor Lab. He is getting violated. Spring fever maybe..
I hope to lunge her today too, but it's gonna be a busy day. This morning I'm eager to go pick up Tweek. I think a lot of Pippin's pacing is he's looking for her.
I especially like the "Clips hauls and loads" I laughed so loud that people were looking at me. :-)
Sounds like the heeler needs to pay a visit to "Dr Knife". ;o)
What a wench. :-) I can't believe that she tried to bite ecurbh, and she looks pretty pissy in that photo too! She needs some serious boot camp. Didn't you have similar issues with her "crankiness" (That's the polite word I'd like to use) when you got her?
I believe she's fallen into the habit of regarding Hair and Ecurbh as "The Help", and believes herself to be Ivana Trump. Boy, has she got another thought coming! ;o)
Yeah - worse... ;~D
Remember, she was bottlefed... and had obviously been allowed to walk right over the top of people.
But she's not hard to correct. She just tries mischief. As soon as I had a rope around her neck, she was docile as a lamb. She'll do stuff like pin her ears and stomp when we're putting her blanket around her belly, but if you say 'HEY!" and slap her, she stands nice.
She'd be a good horse for those clinic cowboys to use as an example horse. She'll do the bad thing, and respond to the first correction :~D She's bad, but soft... you don't have to break something over her to correct her.
Did you know that someones been messing with our keywords again? hahaha. Oh man... some people need to get lives.
She's just had all these weirdness issues at once lately... the thing about the stall, - and she doesn't like to walk through that thick mud in the paddock (and we don't exactly want to go get her through it either) so we've been ending up calling her while she just stands and stares. Ecurbh went out there and pushed her and she pinned her ears and nipped him. He didn't have ahold of her so she took off. She knew she'd been bad.
But it was feeding time, so she came right back. I haltered her and put the chain over her nose and did a bunch of circles both directions, pushing her buttons to see if she'd rebel at all. I didn't get any resistance to warrant getting on her case. ecurbh did the same thing. She was great. We decided to leave her tied for awhile just for a little discipline and patience and led her easily through the mud when we put her in before bed. She didn't even go thump her feed dish, just went ot her hay. I think she knew she'd missed grain when everyone else got it.
Thanks for letting me know.... bastages. :~\
She was orphaned within days of her birth. I'm sure it has a lot to do with her basic bombproof nature. She was handled alot, nothing people do scares her. But it has it's downside too.
Thanks for removing the keywords. I'd sure like to know who's doing it... I'd like them to have to answer for it instead of just trolling the keywords like pansies.
Oh, so you put her to bed without any supper (except for her hay). That's good. She'll think twice about doing that the next time.
Gosh, I have been playing a monk too much on Guild Wars!
Yes, he definatley need to see the "tutor"...but, $200 bucks!
I thought maybe he had medicinal powers ;~D
Jeez, that's highway robbery! It don't cost anywhere near that much at my vets. Nipping a couple of noogies ought not require a loan!
Hey, if you'll overlook my spelling gaffs, I'll overlook yours.
Just this morning I called Cyn a "Winch", fercryinoutloud!
If they are not worth it ... I do not know what is........
Other than horses!
Still cleaning on my saddle, it needed cleaning more than I knew. Bought a new tin of saddle soap this morning and it looks like it will take it all for cleaning. The stirrup straps and fenders will have to be removed and cleaned indivually, argh. It better sell for what I want or it may become a wall hanger........... : )
Have you heard from our buddy yet, the Bright Redhead? If we do not hear from her soon ... I will tell the tale of the wild ride on a horse with a loose saddle and her spectacular award winning "dis-mount." Heh!
