The FreeRepublic Saddle Club - Who's Who *pics*

This is a horse chat thread where we share ideas, ask for input from other horsemen, and talk about our riding and horse-keeping. We have a lot of different kinds of riders and horses, and a lot to share. In the previous threads we have had a great time talking through lessons, training, horse lamenesses, illnesses and pregnancies... and always sharing pictures and stories.

I always have a link to this thread on my profile page, so if you have something to say and can't find the thread in latest posts… look for it there and wake the thread up!

I also have a ping list for horse threads that are of interest, and MissTargets will now be pinging everyone most mornings. Let MissTargets and/or me know if you would like to be on the ping list. As FreeRepublic is a political site, our politics and other issues will probably blend in…. There are many issues for horsemen that touch politics… land use, animal rights/abuse cases that make the news…. Legislation that might affect horse owners.

So... like the previous threads, this is intended as fun place to come and share stories, pictures, questions and chit-chat, unguided and unmoderated and that we come together here as friends. There are lots of ways of doing things and we all have our quirks, tricks and specialties that are neat to learn about.

Yeah, you'll be chasing the sun won'tcha. You got any stops and layovers or is it a direct flight?

Non-stop, thank heaven. Otherwise it takes an entire day just to get there!

Well, that's good and it's bad. It usually means you'll starve to death on the plane. They don't feed ya like they used to. Take some snacks.

The other funny thing about "nonstop" flights is that some of them actually DO stop and pick up passengers, they just don't let YOU off the plane. It's kinda like false advertising if you ask me.

I'll bring along stuff to munch on. It's a five and a half hour flight, so I'm pretty sure they won't stop pick anyone up. Or else it would be more like 7 hours.

:-D

Yep, sounds like a pretty quick (if you can call it that) flight. Coast to coast the long way in 5 and a half hours ain't bad.

I love to get window seats on flights like that so I can see the mountains when we cross over them. I flew from Memphis to San Francisco a few years ago and we flew over Utah and it was just breathtaking, all the colors and canyons.

I'm just like you! Love to have that window seat.

I can just stare out at the clouds and let my thoughts wander.

I'm also taking along Atlas Shrugged to read since I've always wanted to read it and never have the time.

Is this the first time you've been out there since Hair & Ecurbh's wedding?

...Atlas Shrugged...

Groooan!! That's a HUGE book. I attempted to read it years ago and never did get into it. I don't even remember what it was about. I just remember it being a paperback about as thick as a NYC phone book. You're a better person than me!

Yup. The weather is going to be starkly different. :-D

I do have hopes to go back up this summer with my 8-year old daughter for a horsey-related visit.

Don't want to abuse Hair's gracious hospitality though. And we do have another Hobbit wedding coming up in September.

To: FrogInABlender

It's a bit dull, no denying that. I'm only 6 chapters in and it's been a painstaking read so far. :-/

I'll have a backup book handy just in case I decide Atlas can shrug some other time. *laughing*

Yeah, I've been lurking over ther from time to time and just happened to be there the day of the infamous "Secret Code" proposal. How exciting! Where will this one be?

Oh how wonderful, you are going for a visit. You did that one other time IIRC? There were pictures of you riding Bay, or was that someone else? Have a great flight and a good time!

That was a different visitor you saw riding here last summer, but Ruthy has been here before, for my wedding :~D

I haven't had the priviledge of riding Bay yet, but I hope to one day - or at least, go riding on a borrowed horse ~with~ Bay & Hair. ;-)

Pennsylvania in September should be nice. The leaves might even be changing by then. I'd like to tour Amish country up there some day. We have a little pocket of Amish/Mennonites not too far from here that I go visit occasionally for tack and saddles, but I'm sure the Pennsylvania Amish community would be different.

Jake, yes they are Polish! I think they’re gorgeous but down here they aren’t “tankey” enough, for lack of a better word. They like their horses, cattle and women beefy. I’m not giving in. That’s why I love the idea of the Trachener cross. They have that Arab grace but more muscular. I can see they would make a beautiful cross. I’ll look up Maharadscha but right now all the servers are down.

I still don’t know if I’m looking for a stud or going the AI route. My mare is just about to turn 4, is a total drama queen. I’m praying to God she’d even survive childbirth. If she spends a year without “colicing” during her heat I will seriously look for a stud for her. She has such talent and ability, I just need the right cross and color (I’d like at least a 16 hh stud) and I can only imagine what I could do with a Trachener x Polish Arabian cross. She/he would be gorgeous! I’ll talk to you more when the time comes. (If you don’t mind.) Thanks so much, Anne

Well, you wanted to see the picture of me in my goofy yellow rain hat and I finally found it. Don't blame me if it puts your eyes out! This was a couple of years ago so my hair was longer. I'd been out to feed and it was pouring down rain and dark. I had that silly miner's light on my head and the brim of the hat turned up so I could see. I could've killed my husband for taking this one, but he thought it was funny and wouldn't let me any further in the house 'til I let him take it. He paid dearly for it later. ;o) I was coming in through the laundry room so you'll have to pardon all the clothes hanging on the door.

I hate having loading problems in front of a bunch of people who want to "help".

Don't you just hate that? You know their intentions are good but some things just take time and you have to do it yourself. I have one that doesn't like loading but is to the point now that he's fine once he's locked in and acts like he likes going for a ride. Then I have another that doesn't give me a bit of trouble but looks like she thinks she's going to the glue farm and acts all depressed the whole time she's in.
