The FreeRepublic Saddle Club - Who's Who *pics*

This is a horse chat thread where we share ideas, ask for input from other horsemen, and talk about our riding and horse-keeping. We have a lot of different kinds of riders and horses, and a lot to share. In the previous threads we have had a great time talking through lessons, training, horse lamenesses, illnesses and pregnancies... and always sharing pictures and stories.

I always have a link to this thread on my profile page, so if you have something to say and can't find the thread in latest posts… look for it there and wake the thread up!

I also have a ping list for horse threads that are of interest, and MissTargets will now be pinging everyone most mornings. Let MissTargets and/or me know if you would like to be on the ping list. As FreeRepublic is a political site, our politics and other issues will probably blend in…. There are many issues for horsemen that touch politics… land use, animal rights/abuse cases that make the news…. Legislation that might affect horse owners.

So... like the previous threads, this is intended as fun place to come and share stories, pictures, questions and chit-chat, unguided and unmoderated and that we come together here as friends. There are lots of ways of doing things and we all have our quirks, tricks and specialties that are neat to learn about.

She's still here :). Although, personally, I think the one I have due in May will be hard to beat. Tuffy's dam is the mother and Sonny is the sire. This is my Christmas miracle baby :) and if she carries full term it should be outstanding.

That will be great - then if you decide to buy, we'll all have all your plans made for you by the time you close.

Should I hold out for that one then? :~D

I would have bought a nice appy mare when we were looking for ecurbh's horse if there'd been one... Partially so we could join that club :~D

I really wish we had a local appy club here. Closest Appaloosa Club is in Vegas. A friend of ours that raises appaloosas also is trying to get the National Club to sponsor some endurance rides here but the outcome is doubtful.

I don't know if this appy club sponsors endurance events but I think they still sponsor one rated ApHC show and one open show every year, and they have done organized pleasure-type trail rides...

I want them mostly for their private camp spot, a property right adjacent to the forest that was willed to them by an old member. They don't want people to join for that though, they want active breed fanciers. Bob doesn't care about the horse shows and stuff either, though I think they got him to be a ring steward or something... once.

I wondered about that! I missed it, we were busy with our neighbor's horses - Diamond (one of his yound stallions) was limping and we had to go find out why. Our neighbor is gone on the weekends, so we help him with his horses. The limp passed by the afternoon, but neighbor is going to bring in a vet anyway I think...

I'm sorry I haven't checked in much this week. Everything's been pretty hunky-dory with Ranger; his Mama was moved to another pasture, so he was let out with the boys to run in on the prairie. He's still coming up to the pen for grain and goodies, so he's getting work everyday. Now, if I can just get the round pen set up over here...

Does anyone have any preferences on round pen panels? Are they all the same, or is one brand really any better than the other? I'm looking at some 64 inch tall ones from Tractor Supply, but some of my neighbors like Preifert better. Any opinions, or is it better to build one from scratch?

Good Morning.

Nasty out there this morning. Combination of sleek, rain and snow.

Dandelion, I don't use panels, but there are many here that do. I am sure they will offer some suggestions.

Priefert are/is? the best. Not only are they the best quality but the resale value is great. I could probably get back exactly what I paid for mine, 3 years later. It's a great system. Go for the 50' round pen. It will serve you best in your training.

Jake, I love your horse! That story says a lot. Wayne Lucas, huh? Pretty impressive. I'm going to look into their history (thank's for the link.) Sounds like the same lineage as mine, also almost wiped out during WWII. I think Patton (or was it McArthur?) saved them and sent the best of the breed to the US. I used to know all this stuff but have completely forgot.

What do you think that cremello would sell for? They say "make an offer" . Ha! I wouldnt even know the ballpark. Also, what do you use Henkell for? Dressage? How do they do as hunter/jumpers?

Anne

Good morning:)

Farrier just left this morning.

He told me the most interesting story: His mother lives just a few miles from me, and he shoes for her. She is a barrel racer, buys very expensive horses, but IMO, most of her problems come from the fact that she keeps them stalled 90% of the time. Ever since I've know her she is always haveing problems of some kind or other.

Anyway right now she has 2 horses and her husband has 2 and 3 of them are having problems. They have tried everything, gone to numerous vets, chiropractors, etc. and just can't keep the horses sound, or from some type of muscle soreness.

A friend of hers told her about a horse physic.:) She was depserate to try anything so she called this lady who is in Tx. This lady asked for the horses barn names, then said she would call back the next day. When she called back, she said she talked to each of the horses, and they all told her what had been going on in their lives (and she told what they all said, it was very specific and very right). Then she told Chris's mom what each horse said they wished would be done for them as far as shoes, and chriopractors. Chris did it and the horses are sound. The chriopactor exrayed the horse and found that what the lady said was wrong with them was in fact wrong.....for instances the physic said that this one horse was out between 4-5 in his neck and he had a sharp hook on one tooth. All that stuff turned out to be right....

I don't know what to think of this type of stuff but it is sure interesting:)

Becky
