This is a horse chat thread where we share ideas, ask for input from other horsemen, and talk about our riding and horse-keeping. We have a lot of different kinds of riders and horses, and a lot to share. In the previous threads we have had a great time talking through lessons, training, horse lamenesses, illnesses and pregnancies... and always sharing pictures and stories.
I always have a link to this thread on my profile page, so if you have something to say and can't find the thread in latest posts look for it there and wake the thread up!
I also have a ping list for horse threads that are of interest, and MissTargets will now be pinging everyone most mornings. Let MissTargets and/or me know if you would like to be on the ping list. As FreeRepublic is a political site, our politics and other issues will probably blend in . There are many issues for horsemen that touch politics land use, animal rights/abuse cases that make the news . Legislation that might affect horse owners.
So... like the previous threads, this is intended as fun place to come and share stories, pictures, questions and chit-chat, unguided and unmoderated and that we come together here as friends. There are lots of ways of doing things and we all have our quirks, tricks and specialties that are neat to learn about.

New folk and occasional posters, jump right in and introduce yourselves, tell us about your horses, and post pictures if you've got them!
I have been there too. The hardest thing we ever have to do is to make that decision when the time comes.
You did everything you could, and in the end, did the best thing for your mare. It is nice that she could be buried in her favorite spot.
Just this side of Heaven is a place called Rainbow Bridge.... When an animal dies that has been especially close to someone here, that pet goes to Rainbow Bridge. There are meadows and hills for all of our special friends so they can run and play together. There is plenty of food, water and sunshine. Our friends are warm and comfortable. All the animals who had been ill or old are restored to health and vigor. Those who were hurt or maimed are made whole and strong again, just as we remember them in our dreams of days and times gone by. The animals are happy and content, except for one small thing: They each miss someone very special to them who had to be left behind. Though they run and play together happily, the day comes when one stops and looks into the distance. His bright eyes are intent; His eager body quivers. Suddenly he begins to break away from the group, flying over the green grass, his legs carrying him faster and faster. YOU have been spotted! And when you and your special friend finally meet, you cling together in joyous reunion, never to be parted again. The happy kisses rain upon your face; Your hands again caress the beloved head, and you look once more into the trusting eyes of your pet, so long gone from your life but never absent from your heart. THEN YOU CROSS RAINBOW BRIDGE TOGETHER...
I sure hope so :~D
I'll someday know what it is to bury Bay, and I absolutely dread it. But at the same time, I wouldn't trust his end to anyone else, and I'll be thankful if I can be there and do it right, however it goes.
We should have a memory oicture space here. Not just for the one's that have passed on but for the special ones that are no longer in our life.
Darn contacts. Darn me for not spell checking:')
You're right.
squarebarb, if you would post a picture of Miss Accident Prone when you can, we would love to include her in a memorial section of our who's who page...
Which reminds me... There's many updates to the Who's who page that need made, and I think it slipped my mind to remind my honey.
Thank you - I cry every time I read that, I've so many waiting for me.
It makes me cry, too. I try not to read it too much.
Thank you all for your wondeerful thoughts. I have started crying all over again. Can hardly type.
A friend sent this in an e-mail:
Every breath taken in by the man who loves,
And the woman who loves,
Every breath taken in
Goes to fill the water tank
Where the spirit horse drink.
(Robert Bly)
Got to go clean my reading glasses and wash face.
Thank you all.
Sorry, that's 'spirit horses'.
She had the most beautiful head in the world. Rest in peace, you long-legged Thoroughbred. Godspeed over the rainbow bridge.
She's a gorgeous horse and couldn't have been taken care of better. You did right by that mare, take comfort in that.
I'm very sorry.
Becky
She was so beautiful.
What was her real name... something tells me it wasn't "Miss Accident Prone" ;~D
I just found something interesting. At www.rainbowsbridge.com there is a grief support chat room for people who have lost dearly loved animals. I talked to them for a minute to find out what-all animals they were geared towards, I thought it might have just been dogs and cats, but they said they discussed any and all kinds of animals. The chat room link is

I logged in as "tuffy". They were very nice.
Thank you for the link.
How big is your property?
My husband found 7 1/2 acres for sell near my horses that he wants me to look at. Do you think that would be big enough for 2-3 horses on grain, a barn, arena and round pen and a small house later.
5 acres.
Becky
