This is a horse chat thread where we share ideas, ask for input from other horsemen, and talk about our riding and horse-keeping. We have a lot of different kinds of riders and horses, and a lot to share. In the previous threads we have had a great time talking through lessons, training, horse lamenesses, illnesses and pregnancies... and always sharing pictures and stories.
I always have a link to this thread on my profile page, so if you have something to say and can't find the thread in latest posts look for it there and wake the thread up!
I also have a ping list for horse threads that are of interest, and MissTargets will now be pinging everyone most mornings. Let MissTargets and/or me know if you would like to be on the ping list. As FreeRepublic is a political site, our politics and other issues will probably blend in . There are many issues for horsemen that touch politics land use, animal rights/abuse cases that make the news . Legislation that might affect horse owners.
So... like the previous threads, this is intended as fun place to come and share stories, pictures, questions and chit-chat, unguided and unmoderated and that we come together here as friends. There are lots of ways of doing things and we all have our quirks, tricks and specialties that are neat to learn about.

New folk and occasional posters, jump right in and introduce yourselves, tell us about your horses, and post pictures if you've got them!
Really nice day yesterday, 50's. Today, as warm, but raining.
Daughter went to see her horse this morning. She took work's camera, so hopefully there will be some more pictures to show of Biscuit.
Oh good - I look forward to that. :~D
She's just staying 30 days, right? How much longer?
Hello everyone. I've been off this thread for a while but will try to catch up.
I lost my mare, Miss Accident-Prone. She seemed to get better but then slid downhill. Wouldn't eat, etc. finally they removed the entire lump from her neck and sent it off. It was lymphoma. Cancer of the lymph system. there was no point in fighting it any longer. She once again began to refuse to eat.
She's buried down in her favorite meadow. Had other difficult things going on at the same time.
Hope everyone is well. When I have time later today I will scroll back and catch up on the news.
(((squarebarb)))
I'm so sorry. :-(
My lessons are going so well my teacher said that she wished you had another horse for me to ride that was more challenging!
The funny thing is that she does and I did ask her if I could ride "Lilly" her Paint.
Lilly is 4 whereas Missy is 14
Anyways she said "No" because Lilly is young and I am inexperienced
However, this is the good part, her husband was in the arena when I was having my lesson this week and when his wife made that statement, He said,
"She could ride Lilly" and I said, "She won't let me"
LOL
Soooo I may be riding Lilly!
In addtion I asked her if I could try English and she said, "You just made my day!"
So next week I'll be riding English for the first time & I am excited about it!
I am not giving up on Lilly either!
She is Buckskin color with black markings, so pretty and very sweet.
She takes her treats so soft and her mouth feels like velvet
Missy wolfs down her treats cause she wants 'em all to herself and doesn't want to share with the other horses!
Boy it doesn't take long cause now I want my own horse!!!!
I'm so sorry.
Oh no. I'm so, so sorry. That's heartbreaking news.
But of course:'). Can I make a suggestion though? If possible get the barn before the horse
Oh squarebarb, thank you so much for the care you gave to her. She was blessed to have you caring for her at the end.
So glad your lessons are going well. :~D See if you can get someone to take some pictures... we'd love to see the school horses... and you too of course :~D
But not the cart... I've heard you shouldn't get the cart before the horse :~D
Oh I am a long way away rom actually owning my own and yes I will have the barn first
I had Kelly, my teacher, take a couple this week but I am "behind the times" and I don't have a digital camera as yet so when I get the film processed I will defintely post them on the thread, thanks
:')~
We'll look forward to them then, then! :~D
Oh squarebarb, I'm so sorry. She was lucky to have you to look after her.
I've seen the rainbow bridge - it's not a bridge in my eyes. It's a long green valley with mountains in the background and a grove of trees on this side. There's tall grass and a slight breeze and sunny skies. There is a red leopard mare grazing there, with feathers braided in her mane and tail. She's watching over her filly, who is running pell mell from one end to the other, and waiting for me to get there. Your mare has joined the herd, happy and healthy and rolling in the warm grass. She'll still be there when you get there :)
"Somewhere...somewhere in time's own space
There must be some sweet pastured place
Where creeks sing on and tall trees grow
Some Paradise where horses go.
For by the love that guides my pen
I know great horses live again."
-Stanley Harrison
Along with a black and white leopard gelding...sob.
I still miss that boy, so much.
