The FreeRepublic Saddle Club - Who's Who *pics*

This is a horse chat thread where we share ideas, ask for input from other horsemen, and talk about our riding and horse-keeping. We have a lot of different kinds of riders and horses, and a lot to share. In the previous threads we have had a great time talking through lessons, training, horse lamenesses, illnesses and pregnancies... and always sharing pictures and stories.

I always have a link to this thread on my profile page, so if you have something to say and can't find the thread in latest posts… look for it there and wake the thread up!

I also have a ping list for horse threads that are of interest, and MissTargets will now be pinging everyone most mornings. Let MissTargets and/or me know if you would like to be on the ping list. As FreeRepublic is a political site, our politics and other issues will probably blend in…. There are many issues for horsemen that touch politics… land use, animal rights/abuse cases that make the news…. Legislation that might affect horse owners.

So... like the previous threads, this is intended as fun place to come and share stories, pictures, questions and chit-chat, unguided and unmoderated and that we come together here as friends. There are lots of ways of doing things and we all have our quirks, tricks and specialties that are neat to learn about.

It's hard to tell from that picture but he almost looks more like an albino than a cremello. I wish the picture would enlarge.

I need some opinions on an unhorse related topic:). I bought and put down some soaker hoses today in my garden, getting ready for spring. Do you think this will be enough?

I'll either bury it, or put mulch on top of it.

He is gorgeous. I love cremellos. There is a breeder in Germany that only breeds "colored" warmbloods. She has buckskins, palominos, cremellos, spotteds, and pintos.

The Russian Trakehners are lovely animals. Ulla Salzgeber, an Olympic rider, rides one named Rusty. He is absolutely beautiful to watch.

If this guy is 16 hands at 3 years old, he will be quite tall by the time he is finished growing. It can be expensive to import them. Geldings are cheaper to import because they only have to spend a few days in quarantine. Mares and stallions have to spend about 3 weeks. But, horses are shipped from Germany to the US all the time.

I really don't know... I think it depends on where you put the plants. Looks like it's a good idea though... I so often damage flowers by getting them wet from above, or spraying them too hard.

Yeah, the very reason for the hoses.

Looks like it'd work well, you might have to adjust them around a bit to get them placed where they wet all the plants once the plants are in.

Jake, isn't he unbelievable? I'll bet he'd be at least 17hh. when he's full grown. I wish I had some info on his sire and dam (they should print his registered name!)

I have this amazing fine boned Crabbet Arabian (out of Gazon-Ferzon) and I'd love to cross her with an SE cremello (hoping for a Palomino) or a black/bay. After seeing this guy however, this would be my dream cross. If she had his height I can only imagine what her foals would do. (The other day she took- and cleared- a 4 foot field fence from a dead stop and she's only 3 years old. I couldnt believe it. She was bored. ;))

Anyway, they are just amazingly beautiful. I'm in no position to import one from Germany but if I could I'd take a real hard look at this guy.

I'll definitely keep my eye out for Ulla. Where I live there is just no market for these kind of horses. It's AQHA here, all the way but thanks to the internet people are no longer limited to their home markets. When I do get into breeding I'll take a good hard look at the Russian Trakehner. This guy is amazing. I wonder what he'll finally go for.

Frog, I'd have no reason to think they'd make that kind of mistake. I'd put my money on him being a cremello. Amazing though, isnt he? ;)

If you like Arabs, you will like Trakehners. They are very similar in temperament, sensible, great brains, but sensitive and sometimes a bit hot.

They are also 'one-person' horses. They will bond to you and once you have their trust, they will go to the mat for you. They are suspicious of strangers too, and are very good judges of character. They can also be independent thinkers and have to be reasoned with, not dictated to.

Probably the best place to buy a Trakehner is in the US or Canada. Henkell came from Canada. I didn't pay a whole lot for him, but I bought him from a video when he was a yearling. It cost me about $800 to ship him to Texas from Manitoba. His paternal grandsire is now in Kansas standing at stud (Polarmond).

I haven't seen any cremellos for sale but then I haven't been looking either.

What else could it be? I've been reading and I can't find any other diseases that bust your throat open. Is there something else?

How old is the house?
130 years old. The original wood flooring is beautiful as is some of the gingerbread trim!

I'm about ready to post 4 pics from earlier this week. I was holding a flash light under my arm and trying to aim with my left as I posed her with my right. The quality is poor and I don't know if you will be able to see much. Here goes though.

I don't know what else it might be, although strangles is a good bet because it lives in the ground and you already had that at the barn - if it was diagnosed correctly then.

Is the sulfa drug still working or have you switched her to penecillen?
