The FreeRepublic Saddle Club - Who's Who *pics*

This is a horse chat thread where we share ideas, ask for input from other horsemen, and talk about our riding and horse-keeping. We have a lot of different kinds of riders and horses, and a lot to share. In the previous threads we have had a great time talking through lessons, training, horse lamenesses, illnesses and pregnancies... and always sharing pictures and stories.

I always have a link to this thread on my profile page, so if you have something to say and can't find the thread in latest posts… look for it there and wake the thread up!

I also have a ping list for horse threads that are of interest, and MissTargets will now be pinging everyone most mornings. Let MissTargets and/or me know if you would like to be on the ping list. As FreeRepublic is a political site, our politics and other issues will probably blend in…. There are many issues for horsemen that touch politics… land use, animal rights/abuse cases that make the news…. Legislation that might affect horse owners.

So... like the previous threads, this is intended as fun place to come and share stories, pictures, questions and chit-chat, unguided and unmoderated and that we come together here as friends. There are lots of ways of doing things and we all have our quirks, tricks and specialties that are neat to learn about.

Those are good sensible goals to have:)

JMO, again:)

Foals can be feisty, real feisty. The thing that is so important, IMO, is to be honest about how much of a disciplinarian you are. Watch a mare with her foal, they are not gentle:) When a foal bites or kicks or gets to feisty mom will kick the snot out of it.

Now I am not advocating "beating" a foal. But if you are in the least bit timid about discipline you should NOT raise a foal. Too many bad habits can be started, and then the "average" horses owner can't handle them. Their whole life they will be prone to those bad habits. The right people will be able to handle it but a timid, or limited experienced horse owner, or a child, will not be able to deal with it, IMO, that is an average horse.

They type of horses people should strive to raise are horses that anyone can ride. IMO. That takes alot of experience to accomplish.

Next week is my grandsons 6th birthday. We play checkers and I'm going to set up a table like that so we can have an ongoing game. He's getting that and a 100 dollar Walmart card. (that's what he wants:')

Well, actually it was a shotgun. But nobody ever caught whoever did it (there were WAY too many suspects.)

You scored as Trail/Pleasure. You are a trail and/or pleasure horse. You don't neccesarily like the structure of shows, but love to be outside in the woods or just going around the ring in a pleasure ride. You are very relaxed and pretty much nothing scares you. You are the horse that is chosen when people just want a break from the difficulties in life.

Yes, I did read that in my search. That site must have not liked me copying the picture. It's not on the thread anymore. Oh well. Interesting read.

LOL! Was not haunted, remember that a visiting priest had his own room there. I would have loved to have seen those walls restored. The house was built long after the Civil War was over so it was never a plantation manor.

I am a direct descendant of CW cavalry troopers. Both on my Father and my Mother's side. One rode with Inge's Cavaly and was captured just before the Battle of Atlanta. The other rode with Burtwell's Cavalry. It was fun to experience what it was like to ride the saddles they rode and to fire weapons like they carried into battles. No regrets at all. My reason for stopping was that it was taking a couple of weeks for me to recover after each three day weekend battle.

"Oh yes, that would be very interesting to hear about. The old South, plantations, and the Civil War were always very interesting to me. Maybe, that was my former lifetime. On vacations to the South, touring the old mansions and battlefields, was great enjoyment."

The best way to see the old battlefields is on horseback. I have ridden over Shiloh with an expert guide several times. Also attended services at the church with our horses tied to nearby trees.

I don't know what I'm answering that comes up with these results but here they are:)

You scored as Hunter.

You are a hunter. You like jumping, but aren't as daring as a jumper. You prefer things to be controlled, and you are all about precision. Many people start out with hunters, maybe some moving on to jumpers, and some, like you, prefer the controlledness of hunters.

Hunter 92%

Trail/Pleasure 67%

Dressage 33%

Racing 25%

Jumper 0%
