The FreeRepublic Saddle Club - Who's Who *pics*

This is a horse chat thread where we share ideas, ask for input from other horsemen, and talk about our riding and horse-keeping. We have a lot of different kinds of riders and horses, and a lot to share. In the previous threads we have had a great time talking through lessons, training, horse lamenesses, illnesses and pregnancies... and always sharing pictures and stories.

I always have a link to this thread on my profile page, so if you have something to say and can't find the thread in latest posts… look for it there and wake the thread up!

I also have a ping list for horse threads that are of interest, and MissTargets will now be pinging everyone most mornings. Let MissTargets and/or me know if you would like to be on the ping list. As FreeRepublic is a political site, our politics and other issues will probably blend in…. There are many issues for horsemen that touch politics… land use, animal rights/abuse cases that make the news…. Legislation that might affect horse owners.

So... like the previous threads, this is intended as fun place to come and share stories, pictures, questions and chit-chat, unguided and unmoderated and that we come together here as friends. There are lots of ways of doing things and we all have our quirks, tricks and specialties that are neat to learn about.

I'm sorry:(

We have a 20% chance of some showers Tues. And it's suppose to be alot cooler.

Today the wind was bad again. I didn't ride, but should have, because I won't ride tomorrow. JP will be here. I may try to go get that coat so I can try it out Tues when the weather is bad. But it's suppose to warm back up again on Wed.

"If I only had a ranch..."

Just sign on the dotted line...... : )

Don't forget that a herd of cattle will usually pay their own way. Buy 4 or 5 year old cows with a calf by her side and already bred back to the same bull. That way you will have a calf to sell in a few months and she will be well on her way to having the second calf. You will not need a bull until the second calf is born. Also buy your cattle from an old established cow ranch, not at a sale barn or from a cattle trader. Nothing wrong with sale barns or cattle traders. Just wait a few years until you know what you are doing.

You think there is a chance that coat will help me ride like him:) Wait...he didn't have that coat on when he went down that hill did he.

You know that is just and incredible scene....there's lots of incredible scenes in both those shows. Too bad that horse really died in that second one, he was a neat looking horse.

An old western was on a tv a few nights ago that I had never seen. "The Big Country" and it starred Gregory Peck, Jean Simmons, Chuck Conners and Burl Ives. Near the beginning there were four cowboys harassing a couple driving a buckboard. Whooping it up they did all kinds of trick riding. It was an excellent old western.

The ride down the hill is the part I can never miss in the movie - that and him bringing in the mob by himself.

Boy - doesn't sound familiar to me.

You know... funny thing about me, I'm not real big on Westerns. They were way to hard on horses in the early days of film for my tastes.

Yep - right now I'm buying about five different kinds of feed, plus supplements, plus additives. Prices are sky high and it means three different feed stores.

Strategy is the feed I would use if I feed hay and or had pasture. IMO, it's and excellent feed. I use to use it when I feed hay. My kids have used it. I'm a big fan of Purina feeds tho.

For the last, oh, at least 10 years I've feed my horses on Horse Chow 100, foal, pregnant mares, studs, gelding. All horses. Rusty is the only horse I add any kind of supplements, and I didn't do that for long.

I went to a Purnia Horse Feeding Clinic one time. The things I learned there are why I use the feed I do, or would use Strategy.

Excellent choice. IMO:)

Oh and I'm sorry I didn't answer earlier, I missed this post.
