The FreeRepublic Saddle Club - Who's Who *pics*

This is a horse chat thread where we share ideas, ask for input from other horsemen, and talk about our riding and horse-keeping. We have a lot of different kinds of riders and horses, and a lot to share. In the previous threads we have had a great time talking through lessons, training, horse lamenesses, illnesses and pregnancies... and always sharing pictures and stories.

I always have a link to this thread on my profile page, so if you have something to say and can't find the thread in latest posts… look for it there and wake the thread up!

I also have a ping list for horse threads that are of interest, and MissTargets will now be pinging everyone most mornings. Let MissTargets and/or me know if you would like to be on the ping list. As FreeRepublic is a political site, our politics and other issues will probably blend in…. There are many issues for horsemen that touch politics… land use, animal rights/abuse cases that make the news…. Legislation that might affect horse owners.

So... like the previous threads, this is intended as fun place to come and share stories, pictures, questions and chit-chat, unguided and unmoderated and that we come together here as friends. There are lots of ways of doing things and we all have our quirks, tricks and specialties that are neat to learn about.

That will work but you always want more. It is about the same amount of work to feed a herd as it is to feed a few.

I've got some of that. I made a cheese dip Christmas and was thinking about cooking the rest up the other morning but it's not looking so good.

I might feel differently if they were my cows and I knew what to expect but right now I don't want any. That's hubbys dream. I want wall to wall windows that I can see horses out of and chickens and a couple of pigs.

Hi - we're back from our adventure to see the local flooding around town... The water's been receding for a day or two now, so we missed the worst of it...

This is a mile or so from our place... Sign in the front yard says "for sale"

Sign says "Proposed Location of Fire Station"

I love this valley and would love to own this property for our boarding stable. The forest where we ride is behind.

I took this picture for 2J at the place where we had breakfast. Beautifully restored Beetle with a little poodle inside.

This is near the Chehalis River.

The river is actually beyond those far trees.

This is the Chehalis River...

Thought this was a neat picture... Weyerhauser tree farm "20 Million Douglas Fir Seedlings shipped annually"

I thought the little dinky mini horses with their little mini blankets were cute.

And finally: The grass is always greener on the other side of the fence. :~D

We need to go grocery shopping soon. Now I get to park near the store entrance and drive an electric shopping cart. But the baskets are smaller and it is a real hassle to bring groceries inside once I get them home. Just can't win.......

Try one of those car carts. I put the boys in one today at Walmart. It wouldn't roll good. The greeter told me I had to put a dollar in the machine. The kids were all excited by now. I had to get some money from ATM. Then the machine wouldn't work. The greeter told me to go try the one on the other side. Uh uh. I wanted my dollar back. The manager came over. I showed her the sign that said "fun" and told her "I am not having fun" They supposedly got it fixed and I'm off to get dog food. The kids were having a ball but I couldn't turn the darn thing. I figured another day and left. The cashier didn't believe me that it didn't work and pulled it forward and back. I told her, "you try turning it" She told me to go to customer service to get my dollar back. They were lined to the aisle. I didn't think so. Next time the kiddos want a ride I'm just going to grab an electric wheelchair if a bunch sitting there. Cheaper and easier to get around the place.:')

Speaking of grass, I just got thru mowing. I shouldn't have to be doing that in Jan. Strange weather.

I have to use the electric wheelchair for the time being. Just barely can walk cause of poor circulation below my knees. This was something I did not expect to ever happen to me.........

No grass here at home but there is plenty of oak leaves covering the yard.

Great pictures:).

In the first one it looks like the sand bags are keeping the water IN in stead of out:)

I love the one of the tree nursery, I've always thought trees, corn and such that are planted in such straight lines looks so neat.

The sky really looks nasty in some of the pictures.

Those mini's look about the size of the new one that has showed up in my neightborhood.

And finally, LOL, at the cow in the last picture. I've seen all my horses do that stunt. Silly things:)

Looks like it was a very nice drive.

I'm sorry to hear that. I've been where I couldn't walk and know how you feel. I had to use a manual chair and walker though. If you don't feel like messing with grocery shopping right now , a lot of stores will fill your list and you just have to pick it up.

I got a tack catalog in the mail today and they have some really neat saddle pads in them. I was wondering if I got one of these if I could get rid of the cashell. What do you think.

Fleeceworks Sheepskin English Saddle Pad Reduces moisture. One inch deep Thera-Fleece sheepskin under the saddle panels provides effective shock absorption. Thinner sheepkskin under the flaps increases contact. In white, cream, brown or black. Dressage or close contact. Sizes 16 1/2-17 1/2. All purpose. Sizes 16 1/2-18".

In the catalog it's on sale. There are even a few others that look really good. It almost be worth the expense to me to not have to mess with that cushion.

The web site address is" www.doversaddlery.com.

My appetite has not returned yet and I do not shop for groceries that often. Coffee is beging to taste good again though. Now I only drink a cup or two of instant coffee where I used to drink a pot of freshly brewed coffee a day.

Had to go out today and ran into a guy with a walker that had a plastic seat on it. Now that is what I needed. Not to worry though as I will be using a wheelchair next week.

Oh wow! At least the sun is out in some of those pictures. I hope it recedes soon, that is nasty.

Those walkers are really nice. Some are very light weight and people that tire with walking can sit and rest as needed.

Talking about assistive devices, I saw a stirrup adapter in a catalog. You step up with your right foot and then put the left in regularly. Is this a butt buster or do they work?
