This is a horse chat thread where we share ideas, ask for input from other horsemen, and talk about our riding and horse-keeping. We have a lot of different kinds of riders and horses, and a lot to share. In the previous threads we have had a great time talking through lessons, training, horse lamenesses, illnesses and pregnancies... and always sharing pictures and stories.
I always have a link to this thread on my profile page, so if you have something to say and can't find the thread in latest posts look for it there and wake the thread up!
I also have a ping list for horse threads that are of interest, and MissTargets will now be pinging everyone most mornings. Let MissTargets and/or me know if you would like to be on the ping list. As FreeRepublic is a political site, our politics and other issues will probably blend in . There are many issues for horsemen that touch politics land use, animal rights/abuse cases that make the news . Legislation that might affect horse owners.
So... like the previous threads, this is intended as fun place to come and share stories, pictures, questions and chit-chat, unguided and unmoderated and that we come together here as friends. There are lots of ways of doing things and we all have our quirks, tricks and specialties that are neat to learn about.

New folk and occasional posters, jump right in and introduce yourselves, tell us about your horses, and post pictures if you've got them!
About the fuzzed-up hairs on Harley's back, I think it's probably just the saddle slipping back and forth as his body changes shape as he moves. You know, when he puts his head down, it stretches the skin on his back and when he puts it back up it contracts back and probably why he's so clean right there as opposed to at the edges is because you get more movement at the edges of the saddle and it works the dirt up more. JMO.
Financed, in part, by your Miss Accident Prone's neck :~\
Yeah, sorry 'bout that, I just can't keep my comments to myself. ;o)
I had a good ride yesterday. More big rock pictures coming up as soon as I catch up...
It's good to recap!
Looking forward to the pictures :~D
Is that the Texas version of getting married in Vegas? ;o)
I thought he handled it real well:) I never thought about the silly thing not being able to see us, but I'll bet your right.

Cool hairpin curve in the road. I really like this road...
A little further down...
A little further down in the woods...
A wild hog wollow we passed. Notice the mud about 2-3 feet up on the nearby trees. That's where they've been scratching...
Nice creek crossing. Those clifs are well over 100' high...
Another creek, or maybe the same creek, different place...
more in next pose...
Exactly but he's welcome to it!
Thanks to all of your for your prayers. As Frog said looks like they have been answered.
Gorgeous country, as per usual. Keep them up, I love to see them.
A little closer...
Closer still...
Trying to get the top...
It's really big and has lots of big fallen rocks in the opening. Lots of cool moss and stuff where the water is falling...
Inside near the mouth looking out to the left...
Th-Th-Th-That's all folks!
Man, I love those HUGE caves and cliffs, I never tire of seeing them!
Well, my panoramic kinda turned out. I didn't get it exactly lined up, but you get the idea. You've probably gotta make your resolution at least 1024x768 to get it to line up side by side across the screen. That's the way mine's set. Also in the one where I was trying to get the top to show, you can just barely see my riding buddy inside the shelter, way at the back. I thought the colors on the rocks where whe water was dripping over the edge was kinda cool too. It looks like there was red and yellow and green and kinda blue. Must be all kinda minerals in that water.
Yeah, me either. This was a new one, we hadn't been in this one before.
The panarama works well when I widened the window out. We could line it up better in photoshop, but we definately get the picture the way it is!
I too love the moss. I'm awestruck by how pretty your area is.
You're really got no idea just how huge they really are. Pictures just can't convey it. I wish I had an army of people I could put in each picture for scale. My riding buddy gets his picture made a lot, and he's really good about me telling him to "get over here and stand...get over there and stand", but he's 60-something years old and I don't wanna run him around too much. But I hope I do as well when I'm his age!
Well, it's not as pretty as where you live, but it has it's charms, if you know where to look.
Yup. It's a fascinating area I never knew was in Alabama. I hope to see it in person someday!
It is just as pretty I think... it's just a different kind of pretty. We have our big trees, you have your big rocks. Both pretty :~D.
I just didn't know they were there. I pictured Alabama being faily low, lots of green rolling hills, like the pictures of Cav's place he's posted. Big huge cliffs with caves big enough to walk into never occurred to me!
It makes me wonder why we don't have more of that here, as close as we are to huge mountain ranges made of rock. Maybe because they were constructed different, your land and mine. If someone knows the geology to explain it I'd love to hear it.
