This is a horse chat thread where we share ideas, ask for input from other horsemen, and talk about our riding and horse-keeping. We have a lot of different kinds of riders and horses, and a lot to share. In the previous threads we have had a great time talking through lessons, training, horse lamenesses, illnesses and pregnancies... and always sharing pictures and stories.
I always have a link to this thread on my profile page, so if you have something to say and can't find the thread in latest posts look for it there and wake the thread up!
I also have a ping list for horse threads that are of interest, and MissTargets will now be pinging everyone most mornings. Let MissTargets and/or me know if you would like to be on the ping list. As FreeRepublic is a political site, our politics and other issues will probably blend in . There are many issues for horsemen that touch politics land use, animal rights/abuse cases that make the news . Legislation that might affect horse owners.
So... like the previous threads, this is intended as fun place to come and share stories, pictures, questions and chit-chat, unguided and unmoderated and that we come together here as friends. There are lots of ways of doing things and we all have our quirks, tricks and specialties that are neat to learn about.

New folk and occasional posters, jump right in and introduce yourselves, tell us about your horses, and post pictures if you've got them!
I think she must. She does not have any QH look about her but looks just like the old photographs I have seen of real Nez Perce appys.
She actually moves very nicely with lots of knee action and makes a lovely light cart horse. I told my daughter that she should show her.
It would be nice if your daughter could show her - she'd have a lot of fun. We show in all the local open shows and just really enjoy it.
Isn't he cool :~D
Well, I sure think so, but I'm a little biased :)
Hello.
I just got home from town, Mack and goofed off all day. We went to the new Bass Pro Shop that opened in Broken Arrow. Oh my gosh. That place is really fun. And I discovered an item that I think will be really good for trail riders. I think it's designed for bike riders but hey. It's a water pouch that you carry like a back pack, not as big. but it has a straw that runs from the pouch and you can drink with out taking it off. It carried 70 ounces of water. I think I may get one this summer and give it a try. I'm limited now as to how much I can attach to my saddle, and I couldn't get but two small bottles in the pouch I have for my waist and then I had to leave out the camera. This should be great, as long as it's not to bulky or hot to carry.

My friend Tiff came over today with her Great Pyrenese pup. This little monster is about 4 months old and about 60 pounds already.
My DIL has one of them - she doesn't use it so I'll have to find out why. Maybe just because it's not as conveneint as bottles to grab and run.
The males can be 190 pounds. Females a little less.
they are used as guard dogs for sheep, etc. aren't they? Can't imagine anyone arguing with one :)
Yeah - Traditionally they were raised ~with~ the sheep, not as a pet, but as just another sheep, so they would guard them from coyotes and such. They don't herd.
Her foal has snow on her rump too. I think that is so pretty.
I know the reasons I should but if I drank 70 oz of water while riding, I better have one of those funnels.
Becky, you are welcome for the encouragement. I just love helping people with health and exercise. Yesterday at the gym I did four orientations. One gentleman was 68 yrs old and was so proud of him, cause he was so enthused about exercise and health. He did very well on the equipment.
Hair of the Dog, Loved your cat pictures. I can understand your feeling of wanting the wt off. There are fun arm chair exercises you can do, to get your heart rate up, I did those while I was home recuperating from surgery. I could post a phone number on here if you are interested in purchasing one. The tapes get your heart rate up and a good sit down aerobic work out. Aerobics is what takes the lbs off. 30 minute walks are good for endurance but if interested in wt loss a 60 minute aerobic workout is best.
Becky, returned to work on Dec.19th worked half days till Jan 2. and full speed ahead for an 8 hr day. Taking one day at a time and just wish the sternum would hurry up and heal from the incision. Still get pringly feeling and small electrical like pains.(hard to explain) I agree with you on the water, our bodies are made up of 70% water and needs the hydration. Supposed to drink half the body wt in oz of water/ like a 110 lb person needs to drink 50 oz of water. If you can't drink half body wt in water, I think 48 oz would be enough. and also think you can flush out all the good nutrients along with the bad impurities if too much is drank. I have a cup of coffee at work, it just keeps you going and I love the smell of fresh brewed coffee. Keep up with all the good work you are doing.
Miss Targets, enjoy your RV show, and your days off, your really deserve them. (smiles) See you next week. Maureen
LOL...Well, I would only drink that much in the summer while on a ride, and I'm sweating so much I very rarely have to go.
I've been caught twice out on trial without enough water, and it's very scary. Both times (once I was by myself) I didn't know if I'd make it back home.
But I do know what you mean, and now with the English saddle, haveing to mount my horse from the flat has become more of an issue. I still have a bit of trouble with that. So I've been careful about where I get off:)
Becky
I have the compounded problem of a horse that's very tall, and I've been keeping my cinch rather loose. Luckily in working timber land, there's a wide range of stumps to stand on. ;~D
I can usually find a rock around here to stand on. I have a big one in my front yard I use to get on when I'm leaving from here. I don't know why this is being such a problem for me, I think alot of it is Harley doesn't have real prominent withers. That's my problem is the saddle rolling. I hate pulling the cinch till it's cutting the poor guy in half. I'm not sure why it does it worse with the English one, I guess because there just isn't as much saddle holding it in place.
Becky
How tall is Bay? Harley is alot taller then Rusty, which might be part of my problem too. I got use to Rusty:).
Harley is abotu 15-2
Becky
Well, I gave Harley 1/2 can of feed and now he is done, so I'm off to ride a bit. It's a really nice day here. BBL
Becky
I think Bay is actually 15.2 But I've noticed everyone thinks their horse is 15.2. :~D
His wither is about at my forehead. It's a long way up there :~D
