The FreeRepublic Saddle Club - Who's Who *pics*

This is a horse chat thread where we share ideas, ask for input from other horsemen, and talk about our riding and horse-keeping. We have a lot of different kinds of riders and horses, and a lot to share. In the previous threads we have had a great time talking through lessons, training, horse lamenesses, illnesses and pregnancies... and always sharing pictures and stories.

I always have a link to this thread on my profile page, so if you have something to say and can't find the thread in latest posts… look for it there and wake the thread up!

I also have a ping list for horse threads that are of interest, and MissTargets will now be pinging everyone most mornings. Let MissTargets and/or me know if you would like to be on the ping list. As FreeRepublic is a political site, our politics and other issues will probably blend in…. There are many issues for horsemen that touch politics… land use, animal rights/abuse cases that make the news…. Legislation that might affect horse owners.

So... like the previous threads, this is intended as fun place to come and share stories, pictures, questions and chit-chat, unguided and unmoderated and that we come together here as friends. There are lots of ways of doing things and we all have our quirks, tricks and specialties that are neat to learn about.

Well, it's a good reason to continue to always add a little COB to the mix, instead of going to all pellets, which really by design wouldn't do much to wear his teeth.

Thanks a lot, I sure will invest in one of those. I normally don't keep a lot of pictures on my pc. Load them to SnapFish, and have them printed out. They still should have the ones I had saved before.

New hard drive is in. Dell walked me thru installation of drivers. Now, it is up to me to do the scanner, MS Office, email and others. What a pain and I have a headache now..lol
My game is loaded thou, so I am happy.

BTW - I ~did~ make it out for me-n-fat-dog's walk around the pasture. First day of my new routine, hope it lasts :~D

Here we are at the far corner of the pasture, to prove we went :~D

We went around twice... I've always said "no pain no gain". Here's Gidget on the second time around, no longer pulling ahead, but laggin' behind :~\

And then we picked up another straggler as it was quickly gettin' dark.

Good morning and good for you. I made it 2 walks also yesterday, and hit 14,000 steps on my pedometer. I can feel it some this morning. Susie didn't run ahead so much on the second walk:) I guess even little dogs can get out of shape too.

No riding today, other things to do. It's suppose to be colder here today anyway.

I will agree that shelled/whole corn helps prevent teeth problems. Hay has some roughage also that helps keep the teeth points worn down.

Soft horse feed loaded with molasses seemed to cause my horses more problems than it helped.

The feed I use is pelleted feed. Its a complete feed, roughage in the feed.

I've always wished they'd chew on the rocks around here:)

LOL! He did that as a small kitten too only he could not reach the tv. His brother would stretch out on the sofa to watch.

He is more your cat than he was mine. You are the one that taught me how to raise him. Thank You!

Great pictures! He may look like he wants go with you but only if you do not walk out the door. Then he will climb over your shoulder to get back inside......... : )

Exactly like your cat Teddy would do.

Good Morning.

Rain, Cloudy dreary day here. Need sunshine! Hey, good luck with the walking. That is something I really need to do too. Daughter has been going in the basement with the granddaughter and exercising and dancing. Me, I am too tired when I get off work to even think about that.

Biscuit is going to the trainers Sunday for a month. The trainer will start her under saddle. That horse seems so lazy, I am anxious to see how she does. She will be an hours drive away. I wanted her to go to the one who trained Jody, but my daughter wanted this guy. Oh well, it's her horse. :')

GREAT JOB BECKY, I knew you would get back in the swing of it. Great job on the steps.

You will burn 100 calories for each mile you walk. You are correct to wait after eating, and technically its 90 minutes.

Also for all of you who are doing this, journal your walks, make a chart or write it in on a calendar how far and how long you walked. Claim it! Nice to see it in print. This will continue to give you inspiration and you will see your progress each day. You will feel proud of yourself for your accomplishment.

Don't worry about the scale and the plus or minus lbs. Its how you feel like you said and let your clothes be the judge, when they feel loose, you will know you did well.

You could take measurements and put them on the calendar the day you begin, then measure again last day of month. This will be even more inspirational when you see less inches on the tape. Throw that scale in the back corner of your closet. Our wt changes and fluctuates during the day.

A new year and a new beginning brings a fresh start to our lives, don't get discouraged and if that little voice in the background is telling you you don't want to do it, tell it "I'm the rider of my horse" "you are just the horse" Take those reins and hold tight and don't let that little voice (horse) buck you off your goal. Maureen

And lazy - that's why I had Gidget on the leash... If I don't she'll just turn around and go home when she's had enough :~\

Well, if I were the trainer I'd rather get a lazy horse than the one that might kill ya :~D

Good morning and good for you. I made it 2 walks also yesterday, and hit 14,000 steps on my pedometer.

ecurbh was lurking yesterday and bought me a pedometer after you mentioned yours. ;~D I'll have to figure out how it works today.

I don't think I'll have time to walk today but I will be workin'.... I gotta strip the stalls down, and the horse shoer's comin'. Then this afternoon kittens have shots.

It's maddening :~\ Especially because she'll run for the house but she can't get out of the paddock. The horses go after her and it's a bad scene ;~D

Thanks. The pedometer does kind of keep me inspired. It came with a little "instruction" book (I guess some people don't know how to walk:). In the back is a few pages of charts to write down your steps, it also gives your distance, calories burned. With the length of my stride, I walk about a mile in 2000 steps.

I've already got one of my walks done this morning:)

I know I shouldn't, because it can be very discourageing, but for years I have always stepped on the scales first thing in the morning. I do know that weight isn't a good criteria, actually measureing inches is better, but it's just a habit for me. I know last year when I was doing so good, I didn't loose that much weight, but lost alot in inches.

...The horses go after her and it's a bad scene...

What is it with them when they do that! My horses get after dogs too, and every now and they they'll go after the barn cats if they don't get out of the way quick enough. I don't know if I told you or not, but I thought one of my barn cats had run out of lives the other day. I've only got 2 barn cats left since I moved and they are both well over 10 so they really don't need to be running from horses, but one of them came a little too far away from the barn one afternoon as I was driving through the gate and Hope got a wild hair and decided to see if she could run her over, and she did. Poor old Mama Cat got rolled like a soccer ball and landed upside down in a heap and didn't move. I just knew she was dead. I went running over to her and when I bent down and touched her she jumped straight up and spit like a wildcat and took off like a shot running for the barn. Only she was running sideways and falling down about every 5 steps. She made it up under the trailer but by the time I got there she was gone. I didn't think I'd ever see her again, but she showed up the next day without a mark on her like nothing ever happened. It must've just rung her bell and knocked her silly for a while. I sure was glad to see her coz she's a sweet old girl.

Oh, good. I really like the one I have. BUT, this is the second style of one I got. The first one (it was very cheap, $4.00) wasn't accurate at all. It had me at over 5000 steps the first morning I used it by like 9:30 in the morning. I went back and got a little better one, and I think this one is pretty accurate. So be sure to check it. And this one was only $7.00. So it's a good inexpensive tool.

There's nothing to how it works.

Becky
