We went through this in '97 and in '01. '97 was really bad, the volunteer fire department was out here sand bagging everyone. That was when our pressure tank for the well popped out of the underground vault. We have since built up around it and (knock on wood) it hasn't flooded there again.
The problem is that the Nevada Department of Transportation put in two culverts under HWY 50 to channel the water coming off the mountains across the road. Then the county did not put a culvert under the road to the Hwy so all of the water is channeled down the road for a block and then right down our road. I was just out taking pictures of it all - one of my nieghbors has calls into the commissioners and tomorrow intends to call DOT.
It's not like they don't know about it, they even graciously put a sign out at the beginning of the road saying "Road Under Water" :)

That will be a really nice saddle when it's done. Also looks like it will be very comfortable.

SHHH. I shook that thought out of my head this morning when I was thinking what else. My son just moved to San Diego.
To: Duchess47
I was just out taking pictures of it all I'd love to see.

I'm so used to your pic posts that when I saw the one about taking the picture of the tornado for a second I took it seriously and was thinking " Oh no"! :')
To: CindyDawg
If she starts heading to higher ground I may should follow her though, huh? :')
To: CindyDawg
Heh - but you know I am serious... that's where I'd be! Out there with the dang camera! I gotta show this to the THREEEEEEEEEAD!

lol. A true FR reporter. Me too probably. That's why for a second it sounded like the normal thing to do:') I remember a couple of years ago when one was headed our way. All of us (the neighbors and I) were outside looking for it. I never saw anything though.
To: HairOfTheDog
LOL...I've laughed at my self for how quick I am to think I've got to get a picture of this to post. I swear I was think it as I watched my barn blow away:)

Okay, I hope this isn't too many pictures for the thread. I'll start at the hwy and come in. By the way, it's now snowing.

As you can see from the last two (snow falling) the water has come way back up again from the pictures I took this morning.

I was thinking last night when everyone was worried about the fire, that I needed to take some pictures of our property so you could see why I wasn't too worried. Granted, fire could come right to the edge of my property, but it would stop right there. There is absolutely NOTHING here to burn. I hated to show how ugly it is, but it will help you not to worry about my horses:). I've never seen it look this bad. I can get pretty barren looking but there is usually SOMETHING out there. This is just from it being so long since we had decent rain.

LOL What a contrast:)

Those are amazing. A drought and a flood at the same time.
To: PayNoAttentionManBehindCurtain
It's beginning to look a lot like Nevada :) Wow, you have had everything dry up there. Still praying that you get my rain though.

Gads... water water everywhere.
Is the snow gonna dry it up well enough to help? I picture it just hindering drainage and making it even worse!

I missed posting one. This is behind my barn. All the surface rock you can see....they were barely exposed last summer. We've lost alot of soil:(

Becky

OK - I can see now that the structures are pretty safe. I pictured that line of trees being closer to the barn. I'll stop worrying so much but I sure hope you don't get any fire and smoke close by.
It sure is dry there... a study in contrasts.
