The FreeRepublic Saddle Club - Who's Who *pics*

This is a horse chat thread where we share ideas, ask for input from other horsemen, and talk about our riding and horse-keeping. We have a lot of different kinds of riders and horses, and a lot to share. In the previous threads we have had a great time talking through lessons, training, horse lamenesses, illnesses and pregnancies... and always sharing pictures and stories.

I always have a link to this thread on my profile page, so if you have something to say and can't find the thread in latest posts… look for it there and wake the thread up!

I also have a ping list for horse threads that are of interest, and MissTargets will now be pinging everyone most mornings. Let MissTargets and/or me know if you would like to be on the ping list. As FreeRepublic is a political site, our politics and other issues will probably blend in…. There are many issues for horsemen that touch politics… land use, animal rights/abuse cases that make the news…. Legislation that might affect horse owners.

So... like the previous threads, this is intended as fun place to come and share stories, pictures, questions and chit-chat, unguided and unmoderated and that we come together here as friends. There are lots of ways of doing things and we all have our quirks, tricks and specialties that are neat to learn about.

Don't you just love it when they proudly bring their prize home to you? I used to have a cat that would bring me rats, alive!

Gads, I still worry! No matter what you say! It's in residential neighborhoods looks like on TV... where I wouldn't think there'd be enough fuel either. I know you've got it pretty well cut and burned for underbrush, but you've still got enough of your little trees in the yard and pasture don't ya?

Actually, I was kidding about the buffalo, we finally discovered what was causing all of my stomach problems, after 15 years of stomach distress. It was gluten and anything with gluten in it kills me. I cut any food containing gluten out of my diet and I feel 99 percent better, I kid you not. I miss the breads and donuts and biscuits and all those yummy baked goods but I sure as heck don't miss being sick and gassy all the time. A piece of cake ain't worth being in the bathroom for hours. It's been like a miracle.

Yeah we have little trees, but there's nothing to get the fire to them. There is just such a small amount of leaves out there, if any, it would burn out so quick the trees wouldn't catch. All the land at the back and one side of us could burn, but on the other two sides we have road. We're in a very safe position.

Just heard an update from a local station and according to what they are saying the wind is blowing the fire away from us.

BTW... I just went outside and it's dead calm so our wind is over, or the hills are blocking us. We happen to be in the shadow of local hills that are on the typical windward side, and it's often just enough to make the worst of it go around.

Duchess, have you still got rain?

I feel like the whole country is in some kind of heightened weather alert.

Well, I'm relieved that you don't feel threatened. I wouldn't think 2J's neighborhood would be either. I just saw people leading a horse out with what looked like a t-shirt around it's neck for a lead. They had lots of tall grass and weeds around the back side of their barn... baaaad barnkeeping.

I don't know if Grizzly was all that proud of this thing, the way he dropped it. I really think it was still alive and playing possum. I was afraid to poke it to much, I've seen them "wakeup" and jump and hiss. The dogs were all making a wide circle around it.

But yeah, my cat worries me about bringing stuff to me. I'm always afraid he's going to carry a dead mouse into my bed at night while I'm asleep and I'll roll over on it, or worse it will be on my pillow, ugh:)

No, I wouldn't think 2J would be in any danger.

Hgwy 75, were Beeline is is probably 10 miles or so west of us and then some miles north.

I'm glad your winds have died down. That would worry me more then my fires:)

If it's not one thing it's another!

It was dark when we got home tonight so we closed the gates to both pastures till we can check the fenceline in daylight anyway.

I just heard that there is another one out of control in the Dallas area. Even if the fire doesn't make it, it has to be really hard on animals that have heavy smoke passing thur.

LOL - yes, I think the whole country is under some kind of weather watch. Raining here again but snow level is down to 5000ft so that's good. It's expected to turn to snow on the valley floor tonight.

I'm really glad your wind is gone - the pictures you posted show those trees just dwarfing your house.

I sure love them in summer but they sure look tall in winter storms :~D

Ah - so you're going back to the snow you loved so much last winter :~D

Well, I don't actually love snow or even like it :) but snow is better at this point than rain, no flooding with snow and we've got about all the water we can handle right now.

This is a good place in insert - Have I told you I hate winter? :)
