The FreeRepublic Saddle Club - Who's Who *pics*

This is a horse chat thread where we share ideas, ask for input from other horsemen, and talk about our riding and horse-keeping. We have a lot of different kinds of riders and horses, and a lot to share. In the previous threads we have had a great time talking through lessons, training, horse lamenesses, illnesses and pregnancies... and always sharing pictures and stories.

I always have a link to this thread on my profile page, so if you have something to say and can't find the thread in latest posts… look for it there and wake the thread up!

I also have a ping list for horse threads that are of interest, and MissTargets will now be pinging everyone most mornings. Let MissTargets and/or me know if you would like to be on the ping list. As FreeRepublic is a political site, our politics and other issues will probably blend in…. There are many issues for horsemen that touch politics… land use, animal rights/abuse cases that make the news…. Legislation that might affect horse owners.

So... like the previous threads, this is intended as fun place to come and share stories, pictures, questions and chit-chat, unguided and unmoderated and that we come together here as friends. There are lots of ways of doing things and we all have our quirks, tricks and specialties that are neat to learn about.

I am already planning my garden too! :) Thanks for the link. You might want to try these places as well. I like to buy heirloom seeds. :)

We hope to be at our new pace by the time the spring rolls around, so I am trying to decide how many vegetables and fruits I need to plant to give us everything we will need when the crop matures, and enough to freeze, can and dry for the rest of the year.

Getting the catalogue in the mail is like another Christmas present!

We treated ourselves and bought a new Dell desktop for Christmas. The screen is one of those flat ones and I love it! Very pleased with the computer, easy to set up etc.

Thanks for the links:)

Yeah, getting this catalog was a surprise. It is addressed to me...I can't figure out why, how I got it. I don't remember signing up for something like this. But I have been sitting and reading it over and over since I got it:) I keep seeing things in it that I wish I had ordered, but figure I've got enough coming and need to wait to see how successful I am starting from seeds.

Theres nothing so satisfying as gardening from seeds. I like to buy herritage seeds than have not gone through all the alteration mess. I feel that in doing so, I am doing my part in preserving these heritage plants.
Do you grow any vegetables?
When we are settled, if (i hope) we have a shady bank or wooded area, I am going to find my favorite flower which is an English primrose. I would also like to find wild bluebell.

Here's your ping:) Don't worry about "knowing" anything. Tell us about your lessons, ask questions, we all love having a chance tho throw our opinions, theories, and training/teaching methods out there:). Altho that might be confusing, we all have different opinions and ways about EVERYTHING:)...LOL. but it's fun to talk and we need some new topics or at least an opening to discuss old ones.

I use to vegetable garden, but haven't in a few years. It's hard to keep up with the flower garden let alone add to it. Anyway we live in an area where home grown vegetable stands are all over the place. Bixby is known as the "Garden spot of OK". I can buy fresh vegetables almost as cheap as I could grow them myself.

Good morning everyone, sorry I don't have the whole ping list :)

It's raining here in the desert, Bob went to get sand bags, horses are not happy.

Wow... I've been in the desert when it rains. Your road looks like it would make a better river!

Are the sandbags for the house? Are you flooding bad?

Strange weather.

I'm actually watering my garden right now. I'm worried about my shrubs and the new bulbs I planted a few months ago...it is just so dry here.

Fortunately, our house is up high enough. We're getting sand bags to stop the water from the road turning down the driveway. It's gone up about four inches in the past hour and anymore water coming on to the property will flood the barn, which is so far dry.

We are part of an emergency evac probram and just got a call, horses trailers needed, horses need to be evacuated in Dayton. We can haul, just can't put any up, we're already trying to figure out how to get our horses out of water.

Goodness. Are you going then, with your horse trailer when he gets back from getting the sandbags?

Take the camera with you, I'm sure there's lots of incredible sights. How long is this predicted to go on?

I'd sure send you some rain if I could.

Hair, how are things at your place?

Wet, though not as wet as we have been. There's a couple rivers that are a little high and approaching some local flooding, but they're always high this time of year.

We can absorb a lot of rain here, we're like a sponge :~D

Nope, I won't be going :) I'm useless with strange, unhappy horses not wanting to get in horse trailers. Most likely if Bob needs to go, I'll just be manning the phone.

Last call (5min ago?) the team is still trying to find somewhere to haul horses to. Rodeo grounds in on the wrong side of the river and bridge is expected to go. Just on stand by right now, thank goodness.

Bob just got the tractor out to move some dirt from a vacant lot down the road into our drive to try and stop the water a little, two neighbors went back for more sand bags but we are hoping we won't need them, that the dirt will work. They are lower than we are, so the truck load Bob and Mandy got is just a drop in the bucket compared to need.

I'm glad to hear that. Friend in Oregon is in flooding area and ex in California told my son that the street in front of his house is right now a river.

Well, we are a whole lot luckier than those on the list in Oklahoma and Texas - at least we don't have to worry about fires like they do. The water will dry up eventually.
