The FreeRepublic Saddle Club - Who's Who *pics*

This is a horse chat thread where we share ideas, ask for input from other horsemen, and talk about our riding and horse-keeping. We have a lot of different kinds of riders and horses, and a lot to share. In the previous threads we have had a great time talking through lessons, training, horse lamenesses, illnesses and pregnancies... and always sharing pictures and stories.

I always have a link to this thread on my profile page, so if you have something to say and can't find the thread in latest posts… look for it there and wake the thread up!

I also have a ping list for horse threads that are of interest, and MissTargets will now be pinging everyone most mornings. Let MissTargets and/or me know if you would like to be on the ping list. As FreeRepublic is a political site, our politics and other issues will probably blend in…. There are many issues for horsemen that touch politics… land use, animal rights/abuse cases that make the news…. Legislation that might affect horse owners.

So... like the previous threads, this is intended as fun place to come and share stories, pictures, questions and chit-chat, unguided and unmoderated and that we come together here as friends. There are lots of ways of doing things and we all have our quirks, tricks and specialties that are neat to learn about.

Yeah. I'm going to EC Friday or Sat and he's going to take me to see her. Want to go? If Eddie goes to Florida I'm going land looking Friday.
Oh Have fun! Hope you find something that you like! :) We are doing the same on the 5th. and have high hopes for this one.

Yesterday afternoon/evening we had storm after storm here. Lots of golf ball size hail, tornado warnings and sightings nearby. ~sighs~ Three kids, a friend of one of them and I spent most of the time reading and telling stories in the downstairs bathroom. (inside walls only and no windows. Extra framing all around). Finally passed over about 10pm and the kids could go to bed. A trailer a few miles away overturned trapping all inside. :(
I believe most of it was coming from Alabama. Did you folks do ok?

Oh dear.. I am seeing one of the scarey fires in Oklahoma County, some horses running in a field that is burning fast. There appeared to be someone trying to catch them.

I sure hope you guys can get the rain you need. I'd gladly send you some.

Not sure as I have always used two wheel drive trucks. My thought has always been if I cannot get there and back in a two wheel drive ... I do not need to go. : )

Nothing here but cool dry weather. Need the rain but not as bad as the folks in Texas and Oklahoma though. : (

Well, that attitude will keep you safe Cav :~D

... after all, my dad always said... "4WD won't keep you from getting stuck, it only gets you stuck further out in the woods" and alternately, "Never resort to 4WD to go in, only to come back out"

He is, but that doesn't mean his advice always applies, and I know even he has broken it.

Granted some of the uses for 4WD aren't big issues for you in Alabama.... For instance, there's nothing more useless in snow than a 2WD pickup with a big motor and a light rear end, but you can probably wait out your snow storms by having a big breakfast :~D

I'd never buy a truck without 4WD.. and my little 4WD Bronco could go ~anywhere~. I could climb trees with it if I wanted :~D

"Granted some of the uses for 4WD aren't big issues for you in Alabama...."

I was in Montana four years and did not need 4WD there either.

"For instance, there's nothing more useless in snow than a 2WD pickup with a big motor and a light rear end,"

Got one of those too, 454 with a roller cam. But it always stayed parked during bad weather

I had a buddy that drank a few adult beverages and parked his wife's Volvo up a tree. She never forgave him for the deed either.......... : )

Well, see, you had other options... One of the options that is not at all bad to have around is a 4WD :~D

To be honest the guy that I hunted with in Montana had a VW Beetle with a gas turbine heater.

We went hunting all over Eastern Montana and never had a problem.

He went to Western Montana once to go bear hunting ... I stayed home.........

Sounds smart... if he'd have gotten one, I'm not sure you and the bear would have fit in the car for the return trip :~D

Yep, and the other reason was that he wanted to use a pistol to get his bear.

I think that was the year that a Grizzly killed some hikers in Glacier National Park too.

I do not trust bears.......

I do not trust bears.......

Me neither. I loaned one $20 once, and I never got it back.

There is one more step in the nutty curve beyond hunting bears with handguns, and that's hunting bears with a bow and arrow. Everyone thinks their OK as long as they can point to somebody who's nuttier. ;~D

Good thing that you loaned the bear money rather than borrowed from him. They charge an arm and a leg interest....... : )

Slow here today.

I didn't ride, went to town with Mack and ran errands. He has to work tomorrow on a job, so I will ride tomorrow. Next week the weather is suppose to reach the 70's a few days so it will be a good time to get Harley back in the groove...and myself:)

There's always next week... ;~D

Are any of the fires near you?

I can't help worrying about the horses I saw on TV. Their field was burning, and they were seriously considering running through the fence. I hope they got rescued.

No, I don't believe there are any fires around here. I didn't see the news. I hope the horses were rescued also.
