This is a horse chat thread where we share ideas, ask for input from other horsemen, and talk about our riding and horse-keeping. We have a lot of different kinds of riders and horses, and a lot to share. In the previous threads we have had a great time talking through lessons, training, horse lamenesses, illnesses and pregnancies... and always sharing pictures and stories.
I always have a link to this thread on my profile page, so if you have something to say and can't find the thread in latest posts look for it there and wake the thread up!
I also have a ping list for horse threads that are of interest, and MissTargets will now be pinging everyone most mornings. Let MissTargets and/or me know if you would like to be on the ping list. As FreeRepublic is a political site, our politics and other issues will probably blend in . There are many issues for horsemen that touch politics land use, animal rights/abuse cases that make the news . Legislation that might affect horse owners.
So... like the previous threads, this is intended as fun place to come and share stories, pictures, questions and chit-chat, unguided and unmoderated and that we come together here as friends. There are lots of ways of doing things and we all have our quirks, tricks and specialties that are neat to learn about.

New folk and occasional posters, jump right in and introduce yourselves, tell us about your horses, and post pictures if you've got them!
Oohh....new stuff!
Cyn's is especially pretty.
I expected the weather to be gray and dreary there, but it looks very sunny and nice!
How much longer until you can start riding trail again?
LOL...I haven't view all of them yet, but I have to say in the third picture the first thing that caught my eye was the way Bay's butt is showing under the blanket. Looks funny, kind of like someone in a hospital gown:)
Becky
I like the black headstalls. Looks like you found a black one to match the headstall for Bay and a brown one for Cyn.:) That was lucky since they only had one.
Looks like they worked up a pretty good sweat goofing off!
I'm riding tomorrow with Julia. She is suppose to be here around 1:30. The shoer is coming in the moring.
Becky
Heh... He'd be deadfully embarrassed if he knew I had posted pictures of his bum on the internet :~D
They goofed off more than I wanted them too, when it's this muddy I always think they're gonna slip and fall on their asses and I cross my fingers.
They're half rained on and a little sweaty too. Doesn't take much to get them sweaty in a blanket and all that coat.
We have an interesting story developing here in the neighborhood tonight. I guess there is some kind of group home out here (I didn't know that), and one of the young people who live there, a boy 18 but only 10 mentally, and with some kind of medical problem supposedly walked away from his home and is lost out here somewhere. When we first got home some one stopped by in a truck and told us about him and the search that is going on, helicopters and everything. One flew over while he was here talking to us. Then a few minutes ago the phone rang and it was a recording from the Bixby Police Dept. with details of the lost boy. He was last seen at 1:00.
Very sad. I hope he doesn't get stuck out there all night, it gets pretty cold at night, altho I don't think it's going to be below freezing tonight. It was 65 today. I've know of adults getting lost out here in these woods for overnight. When it gets dark it's hard to navigate out there.
Becky
That sun lasted only about as long as those pictures :~| It's dreary again.
It won't be till May that we venture out on trail... maybe April to a few of the less muddy places.
I think it's rather funny when they slip and go sliding in the mud on their sides. I guess they could get hurt, but it's still funny. They get such sheepish expressions on their faces and jump up and take off like nothing happened:)
Becky
Interesting... Hope they find him... Is he thought to be potentially dangerous, or just ill equipped to be alone?
Did they think he was trying to run away so he'll hide, or is he likely to be lost and wanting to be found?
I've seen the pony go 'ass over teakettle' and that was pretty funny... but I don't like Bay risking that kind of gymnastics... He's too old to be doing somersaults. :~D And it seems like they always do it right next to the fence.
Nothing was said about him being dangerous so I am assuming he is just ill equipped to be alone. The recording said he was dressed in jeans and long sleeve Tee, so I guess he doesn't have a coat either.
No details were given on the reason for his disapperance. Just that he's disappeared.
Becky
Yeah, that's the part that makes me nervous is when they get close to the fence. That is scary!
Becky
Well, keep us posted if he shows up, or is found!
Prayers up for that young man, Becky. Hope he's found soon!
~sigh~ Four more months then?
Here's hoping spring shows up early next year!
They are still looking for that boy. Helicopters are flying over with search lights on.
Becky
Poor lad. Hope he's huddled somewhere to stay warm.
OMGOSH!! I have been considering allowing my daughter to join FR -- I will show her this thread tomorrow! She LOVES horses. We don't have any of our own, but we own over 400 acres (which I had previously erroneously reported as almost 500 - LOL!) in the country and one of our neighbors has them. She visits the horses with carrots every weekend whether the neighbors are there or not -- the horses love her -- they are like big old puppy dogs!
Well mom, I think you've got the ~room~ to get the poor dear a horse :~D
Yeah -- we HAVE the 400+ acres, but we don't live on them -- we just visit on the weekends. So we would have a lot of homework to do on a caretaker, etc. Hubby hasn't been up for that...yet. LOL! He had a horse and pony down there when he was a kid, and our neighbors who own the horses my daughter rides and plays with live about 2 miles from us in the city during the week, so it's not an impossibility! :o)
Ah - well if you don't live there, I can see how you could err by 100 acres :~D
Lets see... you said she's 5th grade now, right? She's a really good age learn it :~D
What about some riding lessons at a local stable? Riding with buddies on buddy's horses is good, but it's also good for her to take some formal lessons too. I'd find a stable that is nice, but you don't need one that is ~too~ hoity toity... Maybe she can pay for part of some lessons by helping to clean stalls or something... then she'd learn all about the kind of work it is to have one, day in day out, and how to do it. :~D
