The FreeRepublic Saddle Club - Who's Who *pics*

This is a horse chat thread where we share ideas, ask for input from other horsemen, and talk about our riding and horse-keeping. We have a lot of different kinds of riders and horses, and a lot to share. In the previous threads we have had a great time talking through lessons, training, horse lamenesses, illnesses and pregnancies... and always sharing pictures and stories.

I always have a link to this thread on my profile page, so if you have something to say and can't find the thread in latest posts… look for it there and wake the thread up!

I also have a ping list for horse threads that are of interest, and MissTargets will now be pinging everyone most mornings. Let MissTargets and/or me know if you would like to be on the ping list. As FreeRepublic is a political site, our politics and other issues will probably blend in…. There are many issues for horsemen that touch politics… land use, animal rights/abuse cases that make the news…. Legislation that might affect horse owners.

So... like the previous threads, this is intended as fun place to come and share stories, pictures, questions and chit-chat, unguided and unmoderated and that we come together here as friends. There are lots of ways of doing things and we all have our quirks, tricks and specialties that are neat to learn about.

Well, that's a good tip about the 16 footers, if I ever do get them. I'd like a round pen someday, especially if I end up with a young horse, or someone wants to work that pony :~D

I'd like to have a set of the portable corrals I've seen that are lighter duty and hook to the trailer for camping. Now those would be slick.

Mack says the arena is now 125 feet by 100 ft, more oval then square or round.

That's a good size, you can lunge in there, or work a green horse, without them getting up too much a head of steam.

Yeah it's perfect for one person working a horse. With the gate at the end going out into the pasture that use to be arena you could even still run a barrel pattern. Or close it off for a younger one. The old arena was great for roping in , but it was too big for one person, but not really big enough for more then one to ride in and work a horse.

We just came in for making a tour of all our changes:). We even turned the lights on, half of them work. Mack thinks he knows where the short is that are causing the other half to blow the breaker. He's going to try to fix it tomorrow. Not that I'll be useing the arena at night for awhile tho.

Looks like it's just about the perfect size. You'll find it really useful for all sorts of things. Mack is a sweetheart :)

I love looking at the pictures on this thread. Becky your new work pen looks great. Will drop in later today.

I plugged in Christmas lights into a surge protector last night and blew my stereo. Just when I was wanting to listen to Christmas music!

Have to buy a new one. It's dead, Jim.

Things are well down in my front corral, i.e. the emergency ward. Miss Accident-Prone is finally eating more. Am giving her doxycucline twice a day, 25 cc's at a time and the white mare with the barbed-wire cuts is doing okay.

Merry Christmas to all!

I found the funniest website, it's a boarding farm in Washington called "Hillbilly Farms." I'm trying to post a link to it but it won't let me. If you do a google search with "hillbilly farms" in quotes, then Washington, no quotes, it will come up. Have you ever heard of these people?

The tab "our horses" has some especially funny stuff, as does "jumping clinic."

That is funny... Not sure what the issue is with you posting links :~D

Hillbilly Farms

No - never heard of them. I know where Vaughn is, but it isn't on the way to any place I go!

I'm barely computer literate, that's probably the problem.

Don't you love horse people who don't take themselves too seriously? That sounds like a farm I'd like to be a part of. I like this horse description:

"Pannik (aka Pan, Apache Pan) -- Recently arrived in the States from England, this Irish Cob has a placid personality that belies his wild nature. As with many horses of generous girth, the way to his heart is through his stomach. He was named Pannik because of his tendency to...well, panic. Pan's motto: Run first, think later."

Merry Christmas to you two too!

Squarebarb, sounds like a scene from "Nat. Lamppon's Christmas Vacation"

I liked the ones in the jumper clinic: ;~D

Although her leg position is technically correct, this rider is posed above her horse without understanding the function of correct rider position.

Do you read "Practical Horseman"? The jumper clinic is a regular feature in that magazine, with George Morris doing the critique of the riders. Since he is also doing the critique-ing here, those hillbillies must have sent him those ridiculous pictures and he good-naturedly went along with it.

I especially like this line:

"This pair's deplorable turnout is a good match for their abilities, or lack thereof."

"George Morris Leads U.S Show Jumping Team to Win First Leg of Samsung Super League at La Baule, France"

This guy also has training books out, you can get them on Amazon. He's very serious about his work, which makes him going along with the "hillbillies" even better.
