This is a horse chat thread where we share ideas, ask for input from other horsemen, and talk about our riding and horse-keeping. We have a lot of different kinds of riders and horses, and a lot to share. In the previous threads we have had a great time talking through lessons, training, horse lamenesses, illnesses and pregnancies... and always sharing pictures and stories.
I always have a link to this thread on my profile page, so if you have something to say and can't find the thread in latest posts look for it there and wake the thread up!
I also have a ping list for horse threads that are of interest, and MissTargets will now be pinging everyone most mornings. Let MissTargets and/or me know if you would like to be on the ping list. As FreeRepublic is a political site, our politics and other issues will probably blend in . There are many issues for horsemen that touch politics land use, animal rights/abuse cases that make the news . Legislation that might affect horse owners.
So... like the previous threads, this is intended as fun place to come and share stories, pictures, questions and chit-chat, unguided and unmoderated and that we come together here as friends. There are lots of ways of doing things and we all have our quirks, tricks and specialties that are neat to learn about.

New folk and occasional posters, jump right in and introduce yourselves, tell us about your horses, and post pictures if you've got them!
Cindy this is at the restaurant we ate breakfast at a few times. She doesn't serve breakfast anymore tho. Which is good, IMO, I wasn't fond of her breakfast's. She needs to stick with burgers:)
First picture, the guy in the cowboy hat is the owners husband. He is so full of BS:). He has a horse, and did alot of penning, but lost his brand new week old barn in the wind storm that took ours and now he has all his horse stuff, horse, trailer, etc for sale. The others are Mack, Charlie and Travis.
I was trying to get a picture of the place, but Travis walked in front of me just as it flashed. The lady in the middle to the left is the owner.
There is a game room on the other side of restaurant side, and the guys played pool after eating.

Looks fun.... looks very social ;~D
So the guy's barn blew down, which is a shame... but because of that he's gonna quit and get out of horses completely? That's too bad.
Oh well.... any bargains to be found in his stuff for sale?
He was thinking about selling the horse anyway, this just sealed the deal. He likes tinkering with old cars better. He told me he'll get a horse and keep it awhile, then sell, then get another a few years later, etc. He doesn't like the winter work of keeping one, can't blame him for that.
I have no clue if there are any bargains, I don't ask, I don't want to know for obvious reason:). I think he did have a pretty good horse from the sounds of it. I never saw him.

I'm SO glad I'm not a chipmunk! If the hawk didn't get me, the resident Labrador retriever definitely would! (we stopped counting the deceased munks at 12.)
Did you and Mack get your barn repair the rest of the way done? Or still more to do?
I've got barn ~cleaning~ to do today. There's too much frap that's just been brought in there and set down. And stuff that has been rifled through and left a mess.
Funny how you can think that stuff done so much faster then you can actually do it.
All the tin is on, and it looks great. I don't know why, but being smaller like it is now, it looks so much more cozy:).
Yesterday he got new lights put in each stall. Very nice ones. I'll get pictures later. I've got to go run some errands here in a bit. I think today, we will get the hot wire box hooked up, and hot wire run. Then put the wall back up to divide Harley's stall from the feed room, move the panels back, and that should be it. Doesn't sound like much:), but I'm figuring another couple of days.

About frap build up:). I think the stuff breeds:). When we went to see my nephews new homes awhile back, we were all laughing because here he was a brand new house, been in it like 3 weeks, it has a three car garage, and already it was so full of frap that the cars could not be parked in it:). I'm thinking with the smaller barn it may stay neater, because there isn't so much room to pile stuff in.
Becky
Post progress pics as ya can! I may do a "barn cleaning before and after... - If I show you the mess, I might be more motivated to show that I made it all better :~D
It's true... The less room you have, the more efficient you have to be with space :~D
LOL that might help:)
We will still have a lot of clean up to do, getting the old tin, and lumber that wasn't used out of the pastures and piled some place. Mack wants to build some type of cover for the lumber to keep it out of the weather. It's all still pretty good. We'll be able to use alot of it in the house repairs we have planned.
The tin will have to be trashed, be we can haul it to the ranch Charlie ropes at, they have a hole they're filling in.

The barn looks good. And I can see that you also have some frap management to attend to. :~D
Yeah, that was all frap that was in the barn before:). Like I said, I won't have the space to let that build up now:)
No great loss without some small gain:)
(I've really gotten to apply that old saying alot lately:)
Gotta go, running late already, see you later

Well I'm glad you're not getting an ice storm. That would NOT be fun with all those big tall fluffy trees. You'd be living under a brush pile when all the limbs got done falling off. Frozen hoses aren't fun either. If there's any way you can walk the water out of it before you put it under the house that would help.
Well, I weaned little Miss Ellie this weekend and she was NOT a happy camper. When I went to get her about 2:30 on Saturday afternoon, she loaded up in the 2-horse trailer like a big girl and rode over there all by herself just fine. I initially put her and Tennessee in the other pasture across the driveway from Bob, Grace and Hope, but she wasn't happy with that arrangement. She kept running the fence and hollering. I think she thought her Mama was on the other side so I finally moved them all together. She was REALLY unhappy then coz she found out that her Mama really wasn't there so she ran and hollered the rest of the afternoon. On top of that, Grace, Hope and Bob made it their personal mission in life to run the crap out of her any time she happened to look in their direction. I felt so sorry for her. It was getting dark and she was so tired and sweaty that I just put her and Tennessee up in the barn and left them there for the night. I figured she'd get a little sleep that way and might do a little better the next day. I went back over there about 7 on Sunday morning and she seemed a little calmer. The other horses were hanging around the barn gate so I think they might have gotten a little better accquainted through the gate overnight. I gave everybody a little snack, although I don't usually feed in the mornings, and all hell broke loose. It seems that somebody had flipped a piece of poop in Bob's bucket and I didn't notice it when I poured his feed in there, so he's making awful faces and doing his best horsey immitation of gagging. Then he goes and takes Hope's bucket away from her and she tries to move in on Grace who is having none of it. And while all this is happening, Tennessee has finished his and muscled Ellie out of hers so she runs out into the thick of the arguement between Bob, Grace and Hope. I thought somebody was going to get their lights kicked out before it was over but nobody did. But if looks could kill, Grace would've vaporized everybody there. After that I hung around for a couple of hours and everybody seemed to settle down into a routine. The rules seemed to be that Ellie was to stay at least 25 yards away from everybody else. Poor girl! But at least she wasn't running and hollering continuously like she was before. She'd get as close as she could and graze or just stand and look and they might make a half-hearted run at her occasionally but that was all, so I decided to leave them alone to work it out. They were fine last night when I went to feed. Ellie was still a little unsure about how to get to her bucket without upsetting everybody but we worked it out. I think they're gonna be fine, but it'll be a while before they accept her. Weaning is always such a hard time for them, but at 8mths old, she was more than old enough for it.
Good pictures! Thanks for sharing a peek of your life. Looks like fun!
Good grief what a drama! It's always so stressful and scary to make one change in a group. Let alone weaning...
Glad no one got hurt... Hope the worst is over and she finds some friendship soon, the poor thing... "Yesterday I had a mother and my life was good".
I'm just glad you believe it!
Frap expands to fill all available space! More space = more Frap.
Bay showing his obvious disappointment... "How did it come to this?"
Yeah, I'm hoping that she doesn't end up odd man out since there was an even number there before she got there.
"Yesterday I had a mother and my life was good".
I kept thinking that too. She was so pitiful and lost. She had nobody to protect her and stand over her when she slept anymore. It was really sad, but it's gotta be done. She had one a lot longer than most.
Truly was a little upset, but not nearly as bad as Ellie. I left her with a full bucket when I drove off with Ellie so she never really realized she was gone until after I left. When I drove up the next day she came running to the fence and hollered a few times but soon went back to her grazing when she saw that her baby wasn't with me. Mamas move on quicker I guess.
