This is a horse chat thread where we share ideas, ask for input from other horsemen, and talk about our riding and horse-keeping. We have a lot of different kinds of riders and horses, and a lot to share. In the previous threads we have had a great time talking through lessons, training, horse lamenesses, illnesses and pregnancies... and always sharing pictures and stories.
I always have a link to this thread on my profile page, so if you have something to say and can't find the thread in latest posts look for it there and wake the thread up!
I also have a ping list for horse threads that are of interest, and MissTargets will now be pinging everyone most mornings. Let MissTargets and/or me know if you would like to be on the ping list. As FreeRepublic is a political site, our politics and other issues will probably blend in . There are many issues for horsemen that touch politics land use, animal rights/abuse cases that make the news . Legislation that might affect horse owners.
So... like the previous threads, this is intended as fun place to come and share stories, pictures, questions and chit-chat, unguided and unmoderated and that we come together here as friends. There are lots of ways of doing things and we all have our quirks, tricks and specialties that are neat to learn about.

New folk and occasional posters, jump right in and introduce yourselves, tell us about your horses, and post pictures if you've got them!
Great balls of fire, sis! Was there any tracks or anything out there???
That's the most aggrivating thing when a doctor of any kind won't call you back with test results. You'd think they'd know that you're on pins and needles until you hear. Maybe the results just hadn't come back yet is the reason he didn't call, but I sure hate it for ya that you've got to worry about it all weekend. I've never fed alfalfa much so I don't know how much is too much, but I wouldn't think that another flake would hurt her, as long as it's not a huge flake. A flake to me is about 6-8 inches thick. Hang in there and try not to jerk a knot in the vet's neck the next time you see him, even though I know you'll be mighty tempted.
I'm so sorry squarebarb. I know what it is to love and worry for a horse. I sure hope she pulls through this for you.
Calling Becky - check in with us Becky!
That is one thing good we can say about our vet. He shows up like the mailman, no matter what the weather.
LOL,,, no, no tracks. It's hard to leave tracks when the ground is frozen:)
Becky
I'm here:),,,You all are worse then a mother:)
Busy day. I went with Jenny to the doctor. She had her 3D ultrasound today. It was really cool. She got a CD of all the pictures. I'll try to figure out a way to load them so you can see one. The baby definitly has Macks family nose:). Both my kids have it too, and JP. It is absolutely amazing what technology has done with ultrasounds. While we were watching him, he opened him mouth and yawned, and open one eye part way and looked around.
Becky
Well good!
Well, if you're gonna have a busy day, you have to let us know! :~D
I know I wasn't on this thread much either today... I did strip all the stalls, with my headache I hadn't cleaned them in three days and they were baaaaaad.
Mack got over half the tin put on the roof of the barn. Did I mention that he already ran the electric back too it so he could run his drill to put the tin on with. So tomorrow provided the weather allows it (it's suppose to snow), he should finish with the tin, then we'll put the electric box back up there, hook up the hot wire, move some panels and we'll be back in business with a barn:)
Becky
Oh, and sorry you had a headache??? I missed that. I've been going to bed about 8 every night and I've been feeling alot better thru the day. I told Jenny today tho, I'm not worrying about getting any riding in till after the first of the year. Next week I'm going to be swamped getting everything ready for Christmas. So I'm just not going to worry about right now.
Becky
I had a headache that lasted 3 days... not sure what was up with that but I didn't like it.
Good news on barn progress.... here's hoping for no snow tomorrow.
Good Morning. Cold, but sun is out. I think, I might have to do some shopping today. The big stores and malls, I avoid. TSC, Radio Shack will be good choices.
The hose was frozen this morning.... even though it had been stuffed under the house...
I ~hate~ frozen hoses :~\
We'll be shopping today too, I think - a little :~D
It didn't get as cold as they were forecasting and no snow, fingers crossing. Mack is working on the barn. I just ran out and wormed the horses with the wormer I bought at the beginning of the week.
I'm thinking about getting JP's rocking horse out and putting it together....Looks like from the amount of pieces in the box it could be quite an undertaking.
Becky
I hauled out hot water and scared my horse with it.. I don't know why Bay thinks I am going to inexplicably try to kill him with warm steaming buckets :~D
Well, putting the rocking horse together sounds fun! I hope the instructions are in English :~D
Hello everyone.
I plan on finishing up my cookies today and then go visit Waylon. I hope he isn't as full of piss and vinegar as he was Thurs. night. He probably hates being stalled up in the winter. I think the barn lets them out but I don't know for how long. I usually let him run around the indoor arena before I get on him.
Tomorrow will try to finish up what Christmas presents I need to get yet.
Happy Holidays to all
Have a good time, it's ~always~ good to try to work on getting them exercised a little before getting on, if they've been cooped up :~D
Saddest thing just happened. A Sharp shinned Hawk hit my patio door. Killed him. He was bleeding from his nose and mouth:(. I'm going to have to get some of those stained glass bauble things to hang on that door. I don't like this happening. I hear birds hitting it all the time, altho this is only the second time for one to be hurt/killed.
This is an immature one by his color and markings, he was 13 inches long.
Becky
Oh - that is sad. I'm sorry.
I hope it works to put something on the door... It's no fun to enjoy the birds out the new door and kill them in the process.
