The FreeRepublic Saddle Club - Who's Who *pics*

This is a horse chat thread where we share ideas, ask for input from other horsemen, and talk about our riding and horse-keeping. We have a lot of different kinds of riders and horses, and a lot to share. In the previous threads we have had a great time talking through lessons, training, horse lamenesses, illnesses and pregnancies... and always sharing pictures and stories.

I always have a link to this thread on my profile page, so if you have something to say and can't find the thread in latest posts… look for it there and wake the thread up!

I also have a ping list for horse threads that are of interest, and MissTargets will now be pinging everyone most mornings. Let MissTargets and/or me know if you would like to be on the ping list. As FreeRepublic is a political site, our politics and other issues will probably blend in…. There are many issues for horsemen that touch politics… land use, animal rights/abuse cases that make the news…. Legislation that might affect horse owners.

So... like the previous threads, this is intended as fun place to come and share stories, pictures, questions and chit-chat, unguided and unmoderated and that we come together here as friends. There are lots of ways of doing things and we all have our quirks, tricks and specialties that are neat to learn about.

Boy, that's a really nice sculpture! I wish my Mom gave me things like that when I was a kid. She'll love it.

Good Morning everyone on another Friday! Time just flies by so fast. I see the photo changed on the story I posted last night. Dog killing sheep and Kwannza just don't go together..hehehe.

I wish my Mom gave me things like that when I was a kid.

Frog, when I was a kid, everything had to be horsey. One baby doll was all I ever had. Cantering up and down the hall on my hands and knees was the norm for me. My Mother told me I was going to ruin them. A neighbor of my Grandfather's kept a pony on his farm. That was where I really learned to ride. That and those mechanical horses you put a dime in...lol

My daughter had it quite differently At a very young age, she has had a pony. Not like me, who didn't get their first horse until 14. All it took after years of begging, was the first boy to come knocking at the door. :')

I sure hope your headaches go away soon. I know they can really drag you down. Try some Bute, maybe that'll work. ;o)

LOL! Yeah, it might be kinda uncomfortable, depending on where ya put it!

Mixing it with some oatmeal and molasses sounds pretty good actually. ;o)

Everything was horsey for me too as a kid. My friend and I even made real jumps with PVC pipes and buckets. (Her dad was a plumber, so supplies were plentiful) We did all of this in the front yard, of course, and I'm sure that her mom was always as embarassed as anything. I begged and pleaded for a horse as a kid, but my mother always told me that when I was 18, I had her permission to pay for my own horse. :-p So on my 18th birthday, I signed a lease. Ha! In the meanwhile I worked at various barns earning riding lessons.

Yeah, I wondered about that. I just figured you had a really weird sense of humor. ;o)

...when I was a kid, everything had to be horsey...

I was that way too but it never did me any good. I had a neighbor who had several horses and several other neighborhood girls and I used to spend half our time sneaking out in his pasture and messing with the horses. We'd pet 'em and sit on 'em. It's a wonder we didn't get hurt. My Mom was scared to death of horses and always told me that I could have one when I got out from under her roof, so that's what I did. I was 20 something when I got my first and I just kept going.

My granddaughter is going to be a handful when she reaches puberty. I read somewhere that girls who ride horses don't tend to be so boy crazy.

Lonesome Dove.. wasn't that written or directed by Tommy Lee Jones? I feel like he was in it too.

You are right that he was in it. Not sure if he was a director though. Robert Duvall, Tommy Lee Jones and Anjelica Huston are listed on the cover.

No, and I am mad about it. I called and said Weren't you supposed to give me the results today?

Because I was gripping the phone so tight I was choking it.

And the sec. said No he's gone for the weekend. I hung up on her I was so mad. Shouldn't have done that. Lord, give thy servant patience.

So I will now wait until Monday. She wouldn't even eat an apple I offered her. Am leaving her with a flake of alfalfa and two 2-pound cans of Equine Senior with a little cane syrup on it and her doxycyline poured over it. Earlier today she ate a flake of alfalfa.

She's drinking okay. How much alfalfa can you safely give? I never trusted it, but if she's eating it, then I am so tempted to give her more.

Anyway, she is up in the house corral near me with her blankie. At least she's drinking good amounts of water. The swollen lymph gland is as big as ever.

I can hardly sleep.
