The FreeRepublic Saddle Club - Who's Who *pics*

This is a horse chat thread where we share ideas, ask for input from other horsemen, and talk about our riding and horse-keeping. We have a lot of different kinds of riders and horses, and a lot to share. In the previous threads we have had a great time talking through lessons, training, horse lamenesses, illnesses and pregnancies... and always sharing pictures and stories.

I always have a link to this thread on my profile page, so if you have something to say and can't find the thread in latest posts… look for it there and wake the thread up!

I also have a ping list for horse threads that are of interest, and MissTargets will now be pinging everyone most mornings. Let MissTargets and/or me know if you would like to be on the ping list. As FreeRepublic is a political site, our politics and other issues will probably blend in…. There are many issues for horsemen that touch politics… land use, animal rights/abuse cases that make the news…. Legislation that might affect horse owners.

So... like the previous threads, this is intended as fun place to come and share stories, pictures, questions and chit-chat, unguided and unmoderated and that we come together here as friends. There are lots of ways of doing things and we all have our quirks, tricks and specialties that are neat to learn about.

Well at the intermediate levels there's the basic walk trot, training level, then 1st-4th level. 1st level isn't much, but it means that I've made a lot of progress from when I started a year or so ago! Today were were working on transitioning between the collected and working trot.

Way to go! Sounds like you had an awesome ride. It is so nice to make an accomplishment like that. Keep up the good work. Maybe we shall see you as an Olympic rider someday.

Good Morning.

We had a wonderful meal last night. I got the desert to go (chocolate cake), am enjoying it for breakfast.

Beaker...goals, goals, shoot for the stars!

You all have a great Sunday.

I don't know about shooting for the stars. I've done that a couple of times. The take off was a rush but the landing was the pits:')

Here's my tree and decorations.

These are may favorite ornaments. My mother painted them. I have quite a few that she painted but these two are my favorites.

These are new this year. We had one "bubble" light when I was a kid, and it never burned out. I think my mom just packed it away after we left home and she got all new stuff. I thought the little boys might like them. They come 2 to a package.

And this is a Christmas Village Mack got years ago.

I have a really big Nativity scene that my mom painted too, but I've decided this year to give it to Charlie and Kristy. I don't feel like fussing at babies not to touch:). The village I set up on my old sewing machine, but the nativity set has to set on the floor. I'll let their parents deal with that. Jenny already has a set that my mom painted for me, the set I'm giving to Charlie is the set she painted for herself, and I got when she died.

Blake is here with me and I was reading one of your posts, and he asked me what the smilely face at the end of your post was. I showed him it was a face, and then went to a post window and let him make faces. He was doing pretty good:)

I went back looking for Frog's tree to show Blake, and came across the pictures of your cats. He really like the ones where your kittens where in the pounce position:). He laughed:)

Good job Beaker. I jealous. I'm hoping to ride some tomorrow. At least get him out and saddle and lunge him a bit if he seems goofy:). It's been so long.

The typical dosage of banamine for a colicking horse is 12 cc's and you can give it either IM or IV. Of course, IV is better, it gets in their systems pronto where IM is gonna take awhile. I've had the discussion on banamine dosage before so I did check with my vet and also with a friend that ran a horse rehab clinic to make sure I'm correct on the amount.

You both are very kind. :-) I'm really excited mostly because I really like dressage. It seems to be my niche, I've always wanted to do it, and I think that it's really cool. :-) I've been riding for a long time, mostly hunter jumper, but I just didn't like it, and with my other trainer it's like I hit a ceiling and just stopped progressing. It was really frustrating and I stopped for a few years because of it. My current trainer however, stripped me down to the bare bones, and started back from the basics up. I felt like an idiot while she was doing it, but now I feel much more confident about my riding abilities, far more secure and able. I have a lot more balance, and my seat is really secure. It's just so awesome to achieve the level of harmony with your horse that dressage allows you to, even at the most basic levels. Granted, I was riding a 3rd level schoolmaster, so it made it less than difficult for me to do the collection and extension transitions that I was working on this week, and the roundness that I was working on last week, but it was still exciting because it meant that I was doing it right, and I can now apply it to different horses.
Hehehe. I even got to do some passage work. :-D THAT was cool!

Thanks for the pics of your Christmas cheer Becky! We've been up at the beach house today helping decorate.... just got home.

I love the special ornaments your mom made, and the bubbly one too! I haven't seen those for years, I remember them too as a kid.
