This is a horse chat thread where we share ideas, ask for input from other horsemen, and talk about our riding and horse-keeping. We have a lot of different kinds of riders and horses, and a lot to share. In the previous threads we have had a great time talking through lessons, training, horse lamenesses, illnesses and pregnancies... and always sharing pictures and stories.
I always have a link to this thread on my profile page, so if you have something to say and can't find the thread in latest posts look for it there and wake the thread up!
I also have a ping list for horse threads that are of interest, and MissTargets will now be pinging everyone most mornings. Let MissTargets and/or me know if you would like to be on the ping list. As FreeRepublic is a political site, our politics and other issues will probably blend in . There are many issues for horsemen that touch politics land use, animal rights/abuse cases that make the news . Legislation that might affect horse owners.
So... like the previous threads, this is intended as fun place to come and share stories, pictures, questions and chit-chat, unguided and unmoderated and that we come together here as friends. There are lots of ways of doing things and we all have our quirks, tricks and specialties that are neat to learn about.

New folk and occasional posters, jump right in and introduce yourselves, tell us about your horses, and post pictures if you've got them!
St. Francis, St. Anthony, you guys ROCK!
Thank you for favors received . . .
Ear looks a little raw, but not too badly chewed.
Looks like he got into it with another tom cat, not with Mr. Coyote.
He's not going to thank you when you go after him with the sanitizer hand wipes!
(does he have a cataract on that right eye?)
You're right... it's not coyote damage. It's an even bigger mystery now where he's been. He doesn't have injuries severe enough to have delayed him getting home.
Yeah - he's completely blind in that eye.
He might have tangled with one of THEIR barn cats, or he might have met his kitty nemesis coming back or going over.
He really doesn't want me to touch his ear much, but he lets the kittens attend to it ;~D
It looks superficial, though there are scratches to his head that may need attention... cats are so prone to getting infected... but he's now sound asleep. I'm gonna leave it for the moment...
I tried to doctor that ear... but I really can't tell if that flap of ick at the base of his ear in the pic above is all blood and hair or if it's a flap of skin too. I was sitting there with scissors, but stopped short of just cutting it off and seeing if he screeched. ;~D
He hissed at me when I pet his back too, but I can't tell if he's just being bitchy and wants to be left alone or if he's sore back there. I'm gonna let him sleep anyhow, I'm tired, he's tired, we're all tired. But happier than we were :~D
Good night everyone!
NOW you can sing along!
Good night and get some rest. Everybody will feel better in the morning.
THAT's very cute :~D
Good night :~D
Hooray Hair! I'm so glad that he came back. I didn't think that he would have taken off because of the kittens, as he seems to like them.
:) I'm so glad he's back.
Hey that's great:).
And all the pictures you posted were very cool to look at. I love your trees. That one that you can see the house in thru the trees Well, I just didn't know there were trees like that. It would be a bit intimidating to live under then tho:).

I'm so happy the kitty is back, Hair. Losing an animal is heartbreaking, especially when it's a house pet. All my cats are barn cats so we aren't that attached to them. On the other hand, the little yorkie I got from the dog pound, if anything happened to her, my family would never be the same. We've gotten very attached to her.
Now, we found a kitty last night. Part Siamese and Tabby. She looks to be about 6-7 months old, with a broken back leg. She gets around pretty good, so it is not recent. It was real cold and snowing and we put her in the garage for the night. The introduction to the rest of the cat/dog family this morning was dramatic. I will probably try and take her to the humae society. With 2 cats in the barn and 3 in the house, I can't see keeping another cat. It would be quite expensive to fix that leg.
That's why I worry when we get wind over about 40 mph or so :~D
On the last morning snow picture, the one everyone liked, you can just barely make out our porch like in the shadows under the trees :~D
Kitty is fine this morning, has done nothing but eat and sleep. He wanted out this morning but I made him use the litterbox, and he was fine with that.
Well, but if the break is old, maybe it'll just heal that way :~D What's one more? :~D
Thanks, we're happy he's back... he's an old guy, and of all the cats I've had, he's one of the coolest. I really thought I'd seen the last of him, and I'm still puzzled by where he was. He's old, fat, blind... he doesn't have a range of ~miles~. He was already on the porch when I saw him so I don't even know what direction he came from.
I am so glad he finally came home. Looks like he was out 'catting' around!
I don't have cats so I don't know the answer to this but here goes:
On Thanksgiving my grandaughter yelled "Grandma, there's a cat hanging on the screen in the family room. We went and looked and sure enough a tabby was there. We checked him out and he had a tag on. I called the number and the lady lives at least 20 miles away from me. That damn cat had to cross interstates and highways to get out to where I live. Can cats really do that?
Just recently, a cat (I think in Wisconsin or Michigan) crawled into a shipping container at an airport and hitched a ride to France. She had tags on and was finally found in France. Continental Airlines comped the travelling kitty a first class ticket home.
It is flappin' amazing what cats can do especially when an old tomcat is looking for a she-kitty.
