The FreeRepublic Saddle Club - Who's Who *pics*

This is a horse chat thread where we share ideas, ask for input from other horsemen, and talk about our riding and horse-keeping. We have a lot of different kinds of riders and horses, and a lot to share. In the previous threads we have had a great time talking through lessons, training, horse lamenesses, illnesses and pregnancies... and always sharing pictures and stories.

I always have a link to this thread on my profile page, so if you have something to say and can't find the thread in latest posts… look for it there and wake the thread up!

I also have a ping list for horse threads that are of interest, and MissTargets will now be pinging everyone most mornings. Let MissTargets and/or me know if you would like to be on the ping list. As FreeRepublic is a political site, our politics and other issues will probably blend in…. There are many issues for horsemen that touch politics… land use, animal rights/abuse cases that make the news…. Legislation that might affect horse owners.

So... like the previous threads, this is intended as fun place to come and share stories, pictures, questions and chit-chat, unguided and unmoderated and that we come together here as friends. There are lots of ways of doing things and we all have our quirks, tricks and specialties that are neat to learn about.

When I saw that picture, I immediate thought of the liturgical text that says that Our Lady will crush all heresies (Gaude Maria Virgo, cunctas haereses sola interemisti). She is standing on top of a crescent moon, and we all know what religion that stands for. ;-) St. Francis and St. Anthony also being in the painting makes it even more appropriate.

I think I found what graphic I'm using on my blog for the Feast of the Immaculate Conception. ;-)

Oh no, poor ginger cat. I will be praying for his safe return. Maybe, he was upset at not being "top cat" around the household, and is going to show you a thing or two.

Birds of a feather . . .

I like that one best (it was painted by Giovanni Castiglione), but here are a couple of others I ran across -

Simone Martini

Friedrich Pacher
(I guess the Germans like to make saints look ferocious . . . they succeeded. I love the handful of fish St. Anthony is holding . . . they must not have paid attention to the sermon . . .

(The legend at the bottom of the painting says that "this plaque was caused to be made by the most humble men Thamann Kraft and Kristof Kramer. 1477.")

Don't give up, yet. I've had one return after being gone for months.

OK! THAT one's bookmarked! When the cats wander through, I'll see what they think of it!

Don't despair . . . my parents' elderly cat disappeared for a week (WHILE my sister and her husband were babysitting her . . . uh-oh.)

We put up posters and canvassed every square inch between my sister's house and my parents' house . . . to no avail.

A week later my sister opens the door and there is the cat . . . fat as a pig and smiling as only a Siamese can. Turned out she had been canvassing the neighborhood herself . . . had convinced at least 5 households that she was starving . . . all of them were feeding her at the back door . . . and she enjoyed the heck out of it.

My parents were in the remote Caribbean . . . we sent them a telegram (there was no telephone in those days) . . . "KITTY FOUND MEOW MEOW STOP"

I hate it when critters take off when I'm pet sitting... Bob's lab, who always got wanderlust and would take off, used to scare me to death... He'd get that 'call of the wild' look and he was off like a shot to run the county.

Bob used to just wait for him to get home... he wouldn't let you catch him, for fear of getting in trouble, but I'd go try to run him down anyway... I didn't want him to get hit by a car on my watch!

oh - then there's the friend's cat that I pet-sat. I let him out, like I was supposed to, and the cat crawled up in the engine of their car. without keys, I couldn't pop the hood, so I was underneath, trying to pull the cat down by whatever handle I could grab so I could put him back in before I left. I didn't let him out again.... no walks for you!

I have a "cat found" story. My daughter and a friend were swimming at our local little country club and when I went to pick them up, my daughter had a small black and white cat wrapped up in her towel. It was a stray and very sweet, my daughter begged me to let her take the kitty home, she felt sorry for it. My son was with me and he said that there was a lost cat sign on a telephone pole, he saw it on our way to the club. We retraced our drive and found the telephone pole, next to the highway. (how my son noticed it is beyond me, I must have been doing 60 when I passed it). The cat my daughter found matched the description so I called the number on the sign, took the cat home and put it in my tack room and waited for the lady that posted the signs to come see it. She lived fairly nearby and was at my house in minutes. She walked into my tack room, took one look at the cat and burst out crying. It went right to her, it's name was Jingles. Through her tears, she asked my daughter if there was more than one cat, she was missing 2. No, my daughter only found one but told her where she found it so she could at least go take a look around. The cats had to cross a busy highway to get to the club.

I forgot to mention, the cat had been missing about 6 weeks.

How long will it bloom for?

Oh it'll bloom for a LONG time, like a month or two. The ones that I've had have been pretty sad looking by the time the bloom finally dried up. But maybe I just didn't know how to take care of them. It's a pretty plant though while it lasts.

Good Morning.

It sure is a blustery one today!

This Sunday on Extreme Makeover Home Addition, will be the episode, on the local family here. Looks like I will have to give up some "fraging" time to watch it.

Good morning:)

Really cold here this morning.

Hair: any sign of the cat?

I have to brag on Mack a bit:). He worked all day yesterday on the barn, and is doing a fantastic job!!! I think it will be as good as new. He has gotten all the tin and lumber taken apart. The tin is mostly trash, the lumber is still is excellent condition. He got that end stall that was pretty demolished taken down, and the back wall of the three remaining stalls pushed back straight, He will replace the two support posts in the front, put tin around Harleys end. and then the roof. With the tin that was on the back wall of the stalls that were demolished (that tin is not tore up or bent up) he will have enough, or close to it for the roof, so we are probably not going to have to buy anything. Only haveing 3 stalls now gives us more view of the back pasture too, I lilke that. So all in all this is not quite the disaster I thought it would be:)

No, no sign of the cat. :~(

Great news on the barn progress, it is great to be able to see more of the pasture, and I'm glad he got it straightened up. Good work Mack! :~D

We have about 3 inches of snow on the ground, it's stopped and is melting fast, not sure if I'll be able to get any pictures of how pretty the trees are now, once it gets light.
