The FreeRepublic Saddle Club - Who's Who *pics*

This is a horse chat thread where we share ideas, ask for input from other horsemen, and talk about our riding and horse-keeping. We have a lot of different kinds of riders and horses, and a lot to share. In the previous threads we have had a great time talking through lessons, training, horse lamenesses, illnesses and pregnancies... and always sharing pictures and stories.

I always have a link to this thread on my profile page, so if you have something to say and can't find the thread in latest posts… look for it there and wake the thread up!

I also have a ping list for horse threads that are of interest, and MissTargets will now be pinging everyone most mornings. Let MissTargets and/or me know if you would like to be on the ping list. As FreeRepublic is a political site, our politics and other issues will probably blend in…. There are many issues for horsemen that touch politics… land use, animal rights/abuse cases that make the news…. Legislation that might affect horse owners.

So... like the previous threads, this is intended as fun place to come and share stories, pictures, questions and chit-chat, unguided and unmoderated and that we come together here as friends. There are lots of ways of doing things and we all have our quirks, tricks and specialties that are neat to learn about.

Fixed will be perfect for me, and my horses:) And will probably get done alot quicker.

I just walked out to go get the mail and noticed that all the piles of leaves I had raked for JP to play in have disappeared:), I mean every last leaf:)... I guess something good came out of that wind.

Hey, if they are going to pay you for the full value of the whole barn, I'd go for a brand new one. With the posts being broke off at the ground like they are, it'll be really hard to get it propped back up enough to be safe without disassembling the whole thing and starting over. It just sounds like it'd be more trouble than it'd be worth.

I've been reading that one too and you're right, it is very interesting. They've got lots of stuff in there about Appaloosas.

Well, like I said he is going to give it a shot at a fix. If he can't get it right we'll build a new one.

I think he can push it back straight, and replace the poles that are broke. I'm not sure, but he has a plan, and he's pretty handy:) I hate to see all that lumber wasted, just hauled off to the dump. Lumber is so expensive, and I guess the tree hugger comes out in me, it just seems such a waste. I hate seeing trees cut down, especially to be wasted. Alot of the tin is trash, but most of the lumber is still very good. He says he has the patience to take the tin off. It's screwed on so it won't be "that" hard.

I was just reading the post that had a link to the Tiger Horse registry information and I've got a friend who has a gaited Appaloosa. We don't know her background since my friend bought her at a sale, but we always thought how strange it was for her to gait since we'd never seen an App do that before. She's a right pretty little mare, kinda on the small side, with the typical App lack of much mane and tail, but she's a pretty chocolate color with a full spotted blanket and hits a little singlefoot gait just as pretty as you please. My friends grandkids ride her and she's raised a colt or two off of her, out of her blue roan stud. I don't know what the colts look like, but it sounds like she should check into this registry. Like you said earlier...interesting.

I can see replacing the structure only as needed and putting new siding on it. The siding is what's hard to make new again once it's been bent up.

So did you ride today or did that not work out?

No, I didn't ride today, I think you misunderstood. I can't ride till Mon. It's still hunting season. I may try to ride this weekend in the arena, but today I had bookwork to do, YUK:), tomorrow I have to grocery shop. Sat. we are making are Christmas capaletti's, so all my nephews and family etc will be here. If I get back early enough from shopping and it's warm, I may ride tomorrow. The forecast for next week is not looking good. Very cold.

Ah - I did misunderstand... or I failed to pay attention ;~D

I'm doing yuk paper work today too :~\ And it's also cold and fairly dreary today, though it's not raining. It's just chilly.

What are capalettis?

A lot of the older bloodlines appaloosas are gaited. I had a gelding once that I sold that was gaited. The man who bought him said someone stopped him on the road and asked if he could buy him. Said he was the smoothest racking horse he ever sat on :)

Oh, you know, I told you last year about them. It's basically ravioli. We make them from scratch for Christmas dinner. I think I posted some pictures of the occasion last year. My mother was a full Italian, so we were raised on pasta:)

Well these are in a tomato sause. You can do it in a white.

I'm making just enough for the Christmas meal this year, no extra.

And speaking of cooking, it's time I started getting supper going.....I don't like eating after 6.

Thanks for the information on germs. I didn't know most of that. I did kiss my husband on the neck, thinking it was safe.

Your pics are great. The snow is beautiful, it's nice to know that somebody is getting some precipitation. Remember the pic of my nearly empty stock tank? It's gone now. We're 13 inches of rain below normal.

Good Morning.

Duchess, I would love to find a shuffling Appaloosa. I have searched at times on the net, and did find a beautiful gelding in the Cleveland area. Too bad he had been sold already. Leopard that shuffles, my kind of horse.
