The FreeRepublic Saddle Club - Who's Who *pics*

This is a horse chat thread where we share ideas, ask for input from other horsemen, and talk about our riding and horse-keeping. We have a lot of different kinds of riders and horses, and a lot to share. In the previous threads we have had a great time talking through lessons, training, horse lamenesses, illnesses and pregnancies... and always sharing pictures and stories.

I always have a link to this thread on my profile page, so if you have something to say and can't find the thread in latest posts… look for it there and wake the thread up!

I also have a ping list for horse threads that are of interest, and MissTargets will now be pinging everyone most mornings. Let MissTargets and/or me know if you would like to be on the ping list. As FreeRepublic is a political site, our politics and other issues will probably blend in…. There are many issues for horsemen that touch politics… land use, animal rights/abuse cases that make the news…. Legislation that might affect horse owners.

So... like the previous threads, this is intended as fun place to come and share stories, pictures, questions and chit-chat, unguided and unmoderated and that we come together here as friends. There are lots of ways of doing things and we all have our quirks, tricks and specialties that are neat to learn about.

We are having lots of sunshine, and from in the house it's a deceptively beautiful day. Then you go outside and the wind is like a knife. EEEWWWWWWWW, I hate winter:)

It's now stopped and will turn to mud, so I don't like that part.

Kitten pics of that day :~D

My Tom-cat Cartman's 'mothering' of the black kitten is beginning to verge on the obsessive. :~D

He grooms her for an hour at a time... at first kitten Pippin doesn't mind, but then she starts to get furious, pins her ears and growls! but if she tries to get up or fight back, he bites her and makes her stay :~D

So she gives up...

And lays there with that faraway look like we use at the gynocologist's office ;~D

But then when he quits, they lay there curled up together... I don't completely get this relationship, but I think Pippin likes the old guy, and I think my old Cartman likes having a kitten!

The little white kitten doesn't tolerate it. If Cartman approaches her, she takes off.

I think Cartman's taken Pippin as his pet. It's good for the old guy. Everybody needs a pet to love! I think it's sweet.

Heh... Ruthy thinks he looks like Cartman from South Park, so we've sortof been adopting that as a name, since the kittens have names... It didn't seem right for him to just be a number. :~D

Still hanging on to "Pony number 1" for the short horse though :~D

She appears to like him! She doesn't have to go sit by him in the first place... but she does squirm and fuss when he bathes her.

He'll never come when I call it anyhow.... what's the point? :~D

They all only come to 'kitty kitty' anyway!

I thought this interesting. I walked outside with my camera a while ago (finally got some batteries), to the back side of the barn. All the fans in the remaining stalls had been flipped over the back wall and are hanging by their electric cords. Funny that they didn't blow off.

And I took a picture of Harley just for the heck of it.

Yeah, but the line that brought electric to the barn was tore down. We have the breaker shut off.

Insurance adjuster is coming in the morning.

Harley and Rocky are both NOT happy campers right now. They don't like being penned up in the small pens. But the insurance people said to leave everything till they saw it. I don't want them running in the pasture with all the loose tin, and I can't fix the downed fence till we get the mess out anyway.

Are they right next to each other? Or have you got two round pens set up apart from each other?

Harley is just in a pen we made pulling the panels of his run around in a circle. I put Rocky in his run and shut the electric gate wire, it's not hot tho. I'm hoping he doesn't figure it out before we can get everything fixed. Even if he does tho, he can't get off our property and won't be able to get to Harley, he'll just be loose out there where all the barn tin is laying. They can see each other tho from where they're at.

I bet they are getting stir crazy... When I've penned mine up in the paddock, the pony in particular becomes awful in a hurry :~/

Tomorrow I am going to try to get the hot wire back up, to divide them up. I'd like to let them out some. If we can't get all the mess cleaned up, I'd only let them out during the day. But hunting season will be over next Monday, and I'm riding, and I don't want a goofy horse under me:). Probably be goofy enough with the long break he's had. I may try to ride this weekend a bit in the arena to get him back in the groove.
