This is a horse chat thread where we share ideas, ask for input from other horsemen, and talk about our riding and horse-keeping. We have a lot of different kinds of riders and horses, and a lot to share. In the previous threads we have had a great time talking through lessons, training, horse lamenesses, illnesses and pregnancies... and always sharing pictures and stories.
I always have a link to this thread on my profile page, so if you have something to say and can't find the thread in latest posts look for it there and wake the thread up!
I also have a ping list for horse threads that are of interest, and MissTargets will now be pinging everyone most mornings. Let MissTargets and/or me know if you would like to be on the ping list. As FreeRepublic is a political site, our politics and other issues will probably blend in . There are many issues for horsemen that touch politics land use, animal rights/abuse cases that make the news . Legislation that might affect horse owners.
So... like the previous threads, this is intended as fun place to come and share stories, pictures, questions and chit-chat, unguided and unmoderated and that we come together here as friends. There are lots of ways of doing things and we all have our quirks, tricks and specialties that are neat to learn about.

New folk and occasional posters, jump right in and introduce yourselves, tell us about your horses, and post pictures if you've got them!
He's making his way down:')
Thanks! Way behind is an understatement, I am just happy to be here......... : )
Oh man, Becky, that's so terrible! Were the horses in the barn at the time?
Sorry to see the damage and hope your horses were not hurt. Hoping the structure is still sound enough that the roof can be replaced.
Thanks everyone:).
I went out to check the horses again, and Harley was standing at the gate. He was fine, and calm. I put him in the temp pen we made. Then I went out and found Rock he was fine. I put him in his run. The wind has now died off enough that I don't think the rest is coming down. I feel better with him in there then running around in the pasture with all the loose tin laying around. That stuff can really cut them bad. I guess tomorrow we can get all that stuff moved out of there, and put the hot wire back up that seperates the two of them. They just may have to go this winter with no barn. I can't see getting one built this year.
Becky
:-(
My hopes are that you can salvage most of the roofing tin and put it back up. Good Luck!
The three end stalls that are still standing don't ~look too bad from here anyway.... You might find you can get a roof of sorts put on that end that will work until you get a new one built.
That's what I'm hopeing we can do. But it's leaning quite a bit. Mack said he may be able to push it back straight and brace it up. Something to get us by till we can rebuild. I don't need 6 stalls any more. 3 will be plenty. 2 would actually work, I can bring the feed in the house if I have too. Plenty of empty bedrooms to make a feed room out of:).....I wonder if I could bring....nah, :)
Becky
You just need an outside entrance to the room.... and I know Mack knows how to cut a new door :~D
I bet you can straighten and brace that section that's left, and it's a bonus that the joists are still there. You'll be able to tell more tomorrow when it gets light out.
That is the can-do Spirit to have. It will be easier than you two think...... : )
LOL,,, you don't know how many times, especially in the winter when I have to out at night to feed, I've thought about cutting doors in those two bedrooms and making them in to stalls:)
Are joists the boards that hold the roof??? Yeah some of them are still there. The others are still connected to the pieces out in the pasture.
Becky
Thanks Cav:) I appreciate the enthusiasm:)
Becky
Heh... it'd sure be easy to feed breakfast on cold mornings :~D
Yeah - it looks like some of the roof structure remains, and hopefully that makes it easier to get up a quick fix.
You are welcome, just make some before and after pics for us. : )
Becky, I had a hurricane come through and take a wall down to my barn when I lived in NC. I took my pickup and drove it under the wall and then against it to push it back up. Then while the pickup was holding it, I got out the ladder and mailed it back up. I'm sure that's not what any builder would have done but it worked. It may be that Mack can push the back walls upright with a tractor and get enough roof back on to last through the winter at least.
Glad to hear the horses are okay.
I'm sorry your horse is sick - hopefully the vet will have comforting news and good advice. Keeping my fingers crossed.
I'm so sorry to hear about your hubby. I'm praying he has a full recovery.
I love your Christmas card - it's great as usual :)
Lugar is a beautiful dog - even if he is wearing elf ears. I need to introduce you to a neighbor. His dog is named Gunner. :)
