This is a horse chat thread where we share ideas, ask for input from other horsemen, and talk about our riding and horse-keeping. We have a lot of different kinds of riders and horses, and a lot to share. In the previous threads we have had a great time talking through lessons, training, horse lamenesses, illnesses and pregnancies... and always sharing pictures and stories.
I always have a link to this thread on my profile page, so if you have something to say and can't find the thread in latest posts look for it there and wake the thread up!
I also have a ping list for horse threads that are of interest, and MissTargets will now be pinging everyone most mornings. Let MissTargets and/or me know if you would like to be on the ping list. As FreeRepublic is a political site, our politics and other issues will probably blend in . There are many issues for horsemen that touch politics land use, animal rights/abuse cases that make the news . Legislation that might affect horse owners.
So... like the previous threads, this is intended as fun place to come and share stories, pictures, questions and chit-chat, unguided and unmoderated and that we come together here as friends. There are lots of ways of doing things and we all have our quirks, tricks and specialties that are neat to learn about.

New folk and occasional posters, jump right in and introduce yourselves, tell us about your horses, and post pictures if you've got them!
Yes I did and it was really nice. The horse camp was as full as I've ever seen it. It was hard to find a place to park. They have an overflow parking area and it was full too. The trails are really narrow and rocky in lots of places so it seemed like every time we turned around we were either having to get off the trail to let an oncoming group pass, or they were getting off and letting us pass. But it was fun and the weather couldn't be beat. I didn't take any pictures {ducking and covering} but I didn't see anything really out of the ordinary. But there were some pretty horses there and even some wagon riders who were just going to be riding the dirt roads.
Blade did real well, like he always does. Carolyn will be coming to pick him up this Saturday on their way to Land Between the Lakes, KY to camp for their anniversary. I was afraid that they weren't going to get to go because of possible tornado damage in that area, but apparently the park was spared. She called the park office this morning and they said they had already been out to assess the trails and they were fine. So that was good.
I plan on riding again this Saturday but I'll have to borrow a horse again from my riding buddy. It's a big organized ride and sometimes they can get a little squirrelly and I don't want to risk anything hurting Bob's knee just yet.
LOL! Don't count on it. We had a guy here last year who spotted a deer in a field in an office park and jumped out and blazed away at it from the parking lot. Jeez! I couldn't believe it. It seems like the reasoning part of a deer hunter's brains goes on vacation during deer season and leaves the primative part to mind the store. You know, "Me Hunter....you (something that looks like) Deer....BLAM!" ;o)
Whereja get 'em?
Glad you had a good ride.... Amazing for me to hear of crowds and organized rides since our trails are closed :~\
Don't ferget the camera this next time! :~D
That is so funny (and strange)! The other dog is just standing there looking like "What ARE you barking at?!"
Yeah - poor Homer really tries to understand... but he just can't get it. :~D
Gidget gets that aggressive at a lot of things on TV, though that commercial is a favorite. She goes off if we even sing the theme song... which we do, because it's fun to egg her on :~D
But I always make fun of her when she attacks a barking German Shepherd or Rottweiller or something on TV... I say "Gidget... that dog would eat your for lunch if he wasn't trapped in the box".
Yeah, late fall and winter are really the best times to ride around here. It's not so insufferably hot, the leaves are off the trees and you can actually see what's under all those trees and vines. You can always put on more clothes, but you can only take off so many, ya know. I understand about them closing your trails because of all the rain you get. They sometimes close ours when they get really really bad, but our guys don't keep our trails up as nice as your guys keep your trails. When they close them in the Forest, we can usually find somewhere else to ride.
Now THAT'S something we need to see a video of! Set your camera up on a tripod, then you and ecurbh go sing to Gidget for us. THAT would be funny!
I can sympathise about the temperatures being a lot better now. I can't take the heat.
You're right - they have to close the trails here or they'd be ruined. They just can't take the traffic during the rainy season. I'd like to walk them sometime in the winter, because absent horses and traffic, I bet the wildlife use them, and we'd get to see a lot of tracks. :~D
Bears definately use the trails even in summer, as easier ways of going than they find crashing through the brush. We find occasional bear poop on trail, black poop that is all blackberry seeds... but the tracks so often get disturbed.
We'll consider that ;~D
Here's the one I took of my cat, laying in my arm in front of the computer. Makes it difficut to type.
Here's the one of the tree branch that broke in the wind the other day. It's a bit foggy because I took it thru the window and screen.
I noticed that the pictures would load because I took some pictures today of what I've been busy doing this morning. I bought some new bird feeders to hang on my shepherds hood right out side my patio door. This morning a squirrel was out there, but he can't get the feed. I like watching squirrels too, so I built a little wooden trough to nail between to trees and filled it full of feed for the squirrels.
I've got all this where I can see it from my chair.

I was wondering even if I threw some deer corn out there if I could get deer to come that close to the house???? I think that would be cool to sit in your house and see wild life. I know you can get quail t come up to.
Becky
You have a beautiful cat! They do like to lay right where the action is :~D
I love watching the squirrels too, and the birds. I feed more seed and nuts to them a day than I do grain for the horses! LOL. My old fat cat ignores them, I'm a little concerned that the new kittens might end up making a bad scene when they grow up :~\
Funny that your pictures would suddenly show up now... that's a mystery. ~scratches head~
Becky
You might get them that close if the dogs aren't out there. I dunno!
Pretty cool! Look at all your leaves! Do you leave them there or have to rake them? we only have one tree in the yard, a maple, that sheds leaves...
I might have to take the squirrel feeder down. Grizzly is good at catching them, but he doesn't go out back alot.
When the window was there Bink use to sit on the sill and watch the birds and jump at them sometime:). Funny thing I think the birds figured out he couldn't get them and they'd come land on the edge of the window it seemed just to torment him.
Becky
Our dogs go after the squirrels, but they run up the tree ten feet and turn around and look. I sometimes think I hear them laughing at the dogs :~D
Bears.....Hmmmmmm....Don't want no part of no steeenking BEARS!
Since they won't let you ride the trails in winter, would they let you ride the dirt roads? We do that sometimes out in our Forest in the winter when the trails are bad. It's too hot in the summer.
