The FreeRepublic Saddle Club - Who's Who *pics*

This is a horse chat thread where we share ideas, ask for input from other horsemen, and talk about our riding and horse-keeping. We have a lot of different kinds of riders and horses, and a lot to share. In the previous threads we have had a great time talking through lessons, training, horse lamenesses, illnesses and pregnancies... and always sharing pictures and stories.

I always have a link to this thread on my profile page, so if you have something to say and can't find the thread in latest posts… look for it there and wake the thread up!

I also have a ping list for horse threads that are of interest, and MissTargets will now be pinging everyone most mornings. Let MissTargets and/or me know if you would like to be on the ping list. As FreeRepublic is a political site, our politics and other issues will probably blend in…. There are many issues for horsemen that touch politics… land use, animal rights/abuse cases that make the news…. Legislation that might affect horse owners.

So... like the previous threads, this is intended as fun place to come and share stories, pictures, questions and chit-chat, unguided and unmoderated and that we come together here as friends. There are lots of ways of doing things and we all have our quirks, tricks and specialties that are neat to learn about.

Yeah. I didn't early vote this year either. There usually isn't much of a line unless it's presidential. The problem is finding the poll. We play musical schools.

Good morning.

In with our hay purchase this time were two bales of alfalfa. Didn't notice till we were down to these two bales. At first when I opened it, I thought it must be a mix... like it was taken from the edge of a field with alfalfa in the next field over or something... but it's straight alfalfa...

I didn't give them any grain with it... but alfalfa is tha last thing the pony needs :~\

Well, I won't be around much to chat today, I've got a meeting in town, and then I have to go up to our beach house to vote... I'm still registered up there, haven't got around to moving it.

Your horses will think they died and went to heaven. Nice find on someone's mix-up. We would pick up a bale or two in the winter for a "treat" for the horses. A handful or two at each feeding. Much more than that and we would have had to peel them from the rafters.

We have discussed hay prices in our respective areas before, but I notice that you bed with shavings. What is the cost of a bale in your area? We normally use sawdust, but a bale of the shavings at TSC is around 3.75 to 4.00 depending on how many you buy. I really don't like to use it, because you waste so much picking it out. Of course, if you have a really neat horse, it's not too bad.

Have fun at your meeting, and voting.. :')

Just got on here and catching up or attempting to.

That is a very moving post, gulp. Thanks for sharing. : )

Hair, cute kitties, we have 4. One was just about to pounce on a chicken yesterday (bad move), when its sibling pounced on her and the chicken got away. It was so funny to watch! : )

Sugar is a fine example of that! : )
She was laying down near her feed bucket sunning herself yesterday and I went in with her and sat down next to her and made a fuss. I picked out all the bits from here mane from where she had rolled and then made a big fuss of her.
When I came out, Deaconjims friend was here and was so surpirsed that she had continued to lay down, and had even rolled on her back further for me to stroke under her neck. He was surpised she didnt get up!

My answer to that was Sugar knows a good thing when she has it! : )

We pay about the same for shavings... It's expensive. I'd really like to switch to bulk shavings which are a whole lot cheaper (dump truck load in a pile) but we fuss about where to put the pile and how to keep it dry, and the bales are sure easy to handle, easier than having to fill a wheel cart.

So we're paying a premium for the convenience.

We don't have an option for baled sawdust that I know of...

I was gone all day so the kittens have been cooped up.... They are tearing around here like holy terrors right now.

A lot less interest in the kittens from the dogs today... They were only curious for the first few minutes when I let them out.

I bought two bales of hay and I bought grain. I didn't get shavings. If you go in, buy from the white haired guy and he'll credit you on your hay card for the two bales I bought today. He wrote a note on the receipt I have but I bet he'll take your word for it.

Voted and went to the beach house, got season 2&3 of '24'.

Do I need to get cat litter at the feed store too, or did you get some?

OK, I'll get another half-dozen bales of hay, and a bunch of shavings.

uh - no I didn't get litter... I did get milk replacer though. was half price - $3 from what it was at the vets, so that's not too bad.

We don't ~need~ new litter yet, just get the clumping kind next time you do get it. Can be next time you go to the grocery store.

Me too, just catching up. Lurking, mainly. So many e-mails to answer but I am here. Back from Maryland and New York where I had to bite my lip often --- so many mindless liberals. Oof!

How I love my critters and my little ranchito! Back to peace and quiet. Except I have volunteered for the Christmas cantata at our church so rehearsals are looming in my future.

Good to hear from you again! : )
I post on a couple of other forums too and when I've been really busy, the catching up is nearly impossible! : )
I bet you are glad to be home again. : )

I used to find myself doing all of that, but have managed to opt out the last 8 years. Have fun though! : D

No pic? :')

It's not even cold here and I'm already hating winter. It's 15 minutes from dark when I get off work now.
