The FreeRepublic Saddle Club - Who's Who *pics*

This is a horse chat thread where we share ideas, ask for input from other horsemen, and talk about our riding and horse-keeping. We have a lot of different kinds of riders and horses, and a lot to share. In the previous threads we have had a great time talking through lessons, training, horse lamenesses, illnesses and pregnancies... and always sharing pictures and stories.

I always have a link to this thread on my profile page, so if you have something to say and can't find the thread in latest posts… look for it there and wake the thread up!

I also have a ping list for horse threads that are of interest, and MissTargets will now be pinging everyone most mornings. Let MissTargets and/or me know if you would like to be on the ping list. As FreeRepublic is a political site, our politics and other issues will probably blend in…. There are many issues for horsemen that touch politics… land use, animal rights/abuse cases that make the news…. Legislation that might affect horse owners.

So... like the previous threads, this is intended as fun place to come and share stories, pictures, questions and chit-chat, unguided and unmoderated and that we come together here as friends. There are lots of ways of doing things and we all have our quirks, tricks and specialties that are neat to learn about.

This would probably be too much for a trail ride :~D

It'd be a real conversation piece after the ride though, if the stars were a little lower :~D

That is definately not me!

What's up with saddle bags though. I'm looking for just a plain inexpensive one, not a cooler.

Ours are insulated, which we wouldn't have thought we needed, but we sure like them. We freeze our water bottles 3/4 of the way full, and then fill the top with water before we go. Water stays cold all day that way.

Are they too expensive? I don't know what ours were, they were a present.

Huh. I answered but I don't know what happened. 30 dollars to almost 400. I see two types though. One that fits behind the saddle and one that has a hole and fits over the horn. There are also single and double bags.

For a day ride, if you aren't packing the kitchen sink, those front ones might be plenty, the back ones just usually have more space.

I'm not going to drink much anyway. I'm not worried about the ride but I do have concerns about nature calls.

Oh dear! you're better off bearing nature calls than you are getting dehydrated. :~D You'd be amazed at how dehydrated you get if it's hot out, and it's inevitably dusty... it just sure tastes good to have plenty of water after a ride. :~D

Well there will be a couple of stops along the way for relief, water, soda or beer. A bottle good to carry if I should get lost but there is going to be a wagon with coolers so it's not like I'll be roughing it:')

Good Morning.....They wind really blew yesterday. Nice and calm this morning.

Hair, goofy little kitties...lol

Becky, window looks good.

Duchess...the friend of mine, that had the really nice, solid, tanky Appaloosa colt. He placed 7th at the World Show in weanling geldings out of 20. They just missed the tornadoes traveling back. She also informed me that a very good friend of mine had passed away. He was in his early 60's and had been sick for some time. They spent the winters in Florida and that is where he died. A great man I had known since we were kids in 4-H. They owned this business.

Did you go to Bradshaw's? I was going to go but when I went to go a big tree was laying over the front of the driveway, so I was stuck until my SIL came over and moved it. Too late then to go.

Oh dear... I heard about extensive damage, and I figured there were horses that were at the very least terrified, and probably worse.

Yeah. I saw that story in the news but was reluctant to read it.

Some things are too sad.

When you got the the end, there was a little text box that had all the code in it to post your results, you just have to copy/paste it.

Good Morning! I'm catching up after taking vacation on Friday and having a very nice horsey weekend. I got some really nice trail pics that I'll post in a while, but I just wanted to say "HI" before I go back to my catching up...

Man Cav, Babe (the horse) sure is looking good! I'm glad you found such a nice home for her coz she's one in a million. How you doing here lately? I've been meaning to call and check on you and hopefully you'll forgive me that I haven't. I'll try to do better.
