The FreeRepublic Saddle Club - Who's Who *pics*

This is a horse chat thread where we share ideas, ask for input from other horsemen, and talk about our riding and horse-keeping. We have a lot of different kinds of riders and horses, and a lot to share. In the previous threads we have had a great time talking through lessons, training, horse lamenesses, illnesses and pregnancies... and always sharing pictures and stories.

I always have a link to this thread on my profile page, so if you have something to say and can't find the thread in latest posts… look for it there and wake the thread up!

I also have a ping list for horse threads that are of interest, and MissTargets will now be pinging everyone most mornings. Let MissTargets and/or me know if you would like to be on the ping list. As FreeRepublic is a political site, our politics and other issues will probably blend in…. There are many issues for horsemen that touch politics… land use, animal rights/abuse cases that make the news…. Legislation that might affect horse owners.

So... like the previous threads, this is intended as fun place to come and share stories, pictures, questions and chit-chat, unguided and unmoderated and that we come together here as friends. There are lots of ways of doing things and we all have our quirks, tricks and specialties that are neat to learn about.

Speaking of ears, I stumbled across something today. Sarah lee resists when I wipe her ears. Today I put my hand behind the back part and wiped the inside with my other hand. Nothing. Nada. I thought hmmm and tried the other side. Same thing. She just stood there so I did both ears again. She didn't even twitch. I thought she didn't like me doing it but I think now that what she didn't like was me pushing her ears back.

Hey - that's gonna look great, so much more light in, and a really pretty view out the back!

I think it's harder to take baby animals to the vet then baby humans. They look so small....

But they'll feel better real fast now. I'll bet they get alot more active in the next day or so. Worms can really slow them down.

Thanks, I think it will lighten up the living room too, make it feel more open. We hope to put a screened in porch back there sometime, but that will be awhile.

The view was even prettier a few days ago, the trees really were colorful, to bad it doesn't last longer.

Oh, and I don't think anyone will get tired of seeing your kitties:).

Most times that's all it takes with a horse, is pressing the right button:)

Sometimes horses can be real stinkers about messing with their ears. Sometimes it has to do with that at some point in their life they had ticks, that can really make them difficult to deal with. But it sounds like SL just needed the right way to do it:)

That's good if you can find a way to inspect and clean ears... some horses are really bad about it. I think because it's just annoying, to have someone with their fingers in your ears.... but it's one of the things it's really good to condition babies for when they're little.

How fun! Are you going with someone.... is it an organized thing? Where are you going? Trailering somewhere?

It's here. A local club having a benefit ride and BBQ. They like rookies:') It's about 5-10 miles from the stables so yeah I'll trailer. When RebaJ gets back I'm going to try to talk her in to going with me.

Usually organized things like that the pace is 3-3 1/2 miles per hour. So I'd say you're going to go anywhere from 10-15 miles. That's a good ride. Much more then that and it turns into a chore:)
