This is a horse chat thread where we share ideas, ask for input from other horsemen, and talk about our riding and horse-keeping. We have a lot of different kinds of riders and horses, and a lot to share. In the previous threads we have had a great time talking through lessons, training, horse lamenesses, illnesses and pregnancies... and always sharing pictures and stories.
I always have a link to this thread on my profile page, so if you have something to say and can't find the thread in latest posts look for it there and wake the thread up!
I also have a ping list for horse threads that are of interest, and MissTargets will now be pinging everyone most mornings. Let MissTargets and/or me know if you would like to be on the ping list. As FreeRepublic is a political site, our politics and other issues will probably blend in . There are many issues for horsemen that touch politics land use, animal rights/abuse cases that make the news . Legislation that might affect horse owners.
So... like the previous threads, this is intended as fun place to come and share stories, pictures, questions and chit-chat, unguided and unmoderated and that we come together here as friends. There are lots of ways of doing things and we all have our quirks, tricks and specialties that are neat to learn about.

New folk and occasional posters, jump right in and introduce yourselves, tell us about your horses, and post pictures if you've got them!
Hopefully, it will stay warm for awhile longer. By the way the news reports are stating, you might have to take out a second mortage to pay the fuel bills. I do have a Franklin stove in the basement, that helps some. Getting the wood in, is the problem. Tractor won't start and chain saw needs a new blade. Sounds like a good project this weekend.
Cindy, what are you talking about? :~D
Good morning!
Mornin' to ya, Miss Targets!
Good morning.
Taking a break, I'm halfway around my kitchen cleaning out cabinets....
Our weather here is beautiful, hard to stay in the house, but I've got this started I'm not quitting...I'll stay the course:)
Becky
Do not waver, do not falter!
I woke up with a splitting headache I'm trying to shake. I'm probably dehydrated, I may not have had anything to drink yesterday but coffee :~D
Have you loaded any pictures to snapfish in the last day or two? I was going to load a picture just now, and I can't get the picture to show to choose it to load.
I was wanting to get everyone's opinion on something. Do you remember what my livingroom looks like. We are wanting to take the window out and put in either a sliding patio door or french doors. I was wondering what people prefer? It would lightening up the livingroom. We would eventually build a small screened in patio then, it would look out towards the road. I tried to load a picture of what it looks like now, but it's not letting me.
Anyone have one or the other and would have prefered the other?
Am I making sense:)?
Becky
I did just load some pics.... and it worked fine... Not sure what's broken in your case.
French doors look pretty, but sliders are sure easy. You need more room for french doors, in terms of what furniture you can put near them, because of the larger opening and the swing of the doors. I wonder if, when you've got them standing open, if you plan to do that, the doors wouldn't seem more 'in the way' than a slider would. French doors are also harder to screen if you want to be able to leave them open in summer.
I'd agree with Hair on the sliders, Becky.
French doors are much nicer to look at, but leaving them open for a breeze to enter would have problems.
You'd have to worry about the wind slamming them shut and breaking the glass. Not to mention, that the bugs would have open access to your home until the screened porch was built.
I like French doors within the house, leading into a dining room for example - but having them leading out of the house can be a bit of a hassle.
Hey, thanks. This was exactly the kind of info I needed. I never thought about the doors standing open, and taking up room.
That's enough for me to know that sliding doors is what I want for sure.
Becky
Hi Ruthy! Have you heard or seen how the horse facilities you were going to weathered the hurricane?
:~D
I e-mailed Suzi (the owner) before the storm and we chatted back and forth.
She seemed well-prepared and I know her barns are concrete structures, so I'm certain all is well. Plus, she seemed the type to bring the horses right into her living room if she felt they were in danger. :-D
She hasn't e-mailed me since Wilma passed though. I'll drop her a line now and see how they are faring.
I heard about a relief concert and BBQ taking place this weekend in her neck of the woods. The advertisement said that the So Fla Trail Riders would be there and she's part of that.
If she tells me she's going, I'll pack the kids and meet her there to get the scoop.
I like the security of sliding glass doors too.
Most of them have shatterproof glass and trying to get one open when you've pinned it is almost impossible.
French doors are like the French - they don't put up much of a fight when they meet resistance. ;-)
Good :~D
Is it open to the public? If so, you should try and go, even if she doesn't. It would be a nice time to go and meet some horsey peeps.
Huh. I e-mailed her and it was sent back almost immediately as "undeliverable".
Her mailbox is full.
She must not have power back up yet.
Bummer. Caring for and watering that many without power is a lot of work.
I want to go, but it's bound to be really crowded.
It's all free - admission, food, drinks, music, etc. The trail riders are just one small feature of a big event.
It's challenging to get down to the air force base under the best of circumstances, but traveling down there with a 3 year old and 8 year old and streets still filled with debris from Wilma is a bit daunting.
I'll call her on the way home today.
Got a meeting coming up in a half hour. Blech!
Oh my - I'm sorry. If his air compressor is as big as my husband's, you'd think it would have been noticed. Surely took two people to load it.
