The FreeRepublic Saddle Club - Who's Who *pics*

This is a horse chat thread where we share ideas, ask for input from other horsemen, and talk about our riding and horse-keeping. We have a lot of different kinds of riders and horses, and a lot to share. In the previous threads we have had a great time talking through lessons, training, horse lamenesses, illnesses and pregnancies... and always sharing pictures and stories.

I always have a link to this thread on my profile page, so if you have something to say and can't find the thread in latest posts… look for it there and wake the thread up!

I also have a ping list for horse threads that are of interest, and MissTargets will now be pinging everyone most mornings. Let MissTargets and/or me know if you would like to be on the ping list. As FreeRepublic is a political site, our politics and other issues will probably blend in…. There are many issues for horsemen that touch politics… land use, animal rights/abuse cases that make the news…. Legislation that might affect horse owners.

So... like the previous threads, this is intended as fun place to come and share stories, pictures, questions and chit-chat, unguided and unmoderated and that we come together here as friends. There are lots of ways of doing things and we all have our quirks, tricks and specialties that are neat to learn about.

Well, technically you can, but you have to take it easy and be careful to not get them too hot. You've also got to be really careful during the first 45 days, while the embryo is still free floating or you can cause them to abort. Then you're limited after the foal is born but before it's weaned. I'd just rather let a brood mare be a brood mare and ride something else if I could. You spend too much time and money to do otherwise.

Sounds like good stuff, I'll have to look for it. I'll bet it'll do the outside of the cabinets good. They seem to get a buildup of grease on them, I guess from the things you cook, and it's hard to get it off.

I rode Belle up till about a month before Dot was born. I think I could have rode her even longer, but I didn't have the heart:). I started back riding her about a month after dot was born, but stayed close where Dot could still see her mom for about another month.

I agree with you tho, that it's better not to tie up your riding horse with foaling. i wouldn't do that again.

I didn't know that about the embryo fre floating like that. Knowing that now, I really wouldn't want to breed one I used for riding.

Exactly:). It will surprise you to see the gunk go rolling down the cabinets that didn't really look all that dirty. I'd take a picture, but you guys would think I'm really a slob:), which I am and freely admit, but this is just nasty to see.

I discovered this stuff by accident. Mack had brought a jug of it in one time and left it under the cabinet. One time when I was out of cabinet cleaner I found it and thought I try it. Oh my gosh, I was shocked, because I did clean them on a regular basis with stuff. I used it full strenght that time, I hadn't read the label. When it started working so good, I got worried that I might damage the cabinets so I read the label and found out you dilute it for in house cleaning:). I think the jug, it's a gallon size, was only like 4 bucks, I know not over 5, so when you dilute it it really goes along way. I bet the cabinet cleaner manufactors don't want people to know about this stuff. Probably why they sell it in the automotive section. I think its used to clean engines and things like that.

I know I'm sounding like a commercial, but hey, when you find something that works you should spread the word.

I use this stuff on my pots and pans too, to bet the grease off. Cookie sheets and everything.

I tried it last night on a small spot in my shower to see how it worked on soap scum and it just worked like a charm.

< /commercial >:)

I didn't know about the vulnerability early on, but I do know that riding should be limited to walking only and not very much jarring late in pregnancy. The muscles and membranes holding the baby up in there are susceptible to tearing.

The last month that I rode her, I pretty much stayed at a walk. I did do alot of hill climbing tho. I figured horses were alot like humans. If it is something they are use to doing it's OK. Belle was in extremely good shape. The was so tight and fit that she never really looked all that pregnant even at the end. It wasn't till the last few weeks that you knew she was pregnant.

I agree, to a very large extent... And pregnant mares will run and play some of their own volition, I'd just be really careful to make sure they really want to go, and not push them beyond what they will do eagerly.

Being in tune to how they are feeling is key, with any horse really, but especially late in pregnancy.

His leg looks so much better already. It does still look a little swollen though.

LOL that's the stuff I use to clean my kitchen cabinets, walls, etc (gas stove). And my directions to anyone going to the store for me is "the purple stuff". I think the label on the front of the gallon jug is purple.

I would imagine also that stealing a gate like that would be rather conspicuous, and noisy.

You're right, hard to believe noone saw or heard that happening, or saw someone driving down the road with big gates in the back of their pick-up.

I'm always on my husbands case about leaving the garage door open while he works around the yard and last week someone took his big air compressor. Funny thing is that they left a 500 dollar nail gun that was right beside it. You would have thought someone would have noticed somebody carrying a big tank out, huh?

That is a reason to celebrate. Gas is 2.39 here. But it's supposed to be in the 60s.
