This is a horse chat thread where we share ideas, ask for input from other horsemen, and talk about our riding and horse-keeping. We have a lot of different kinds of riders and horses, and a lot to share. In the previous threads we have had a great time talking through lessons, training, horse lamenesses, illnesses and pregnancies... and always sharing pictures and stories.
I always have a link to this thread on my profile page, so if you have something to say and can't find the thread in latest posts look for it there and wake the thread up!
I also have a ping list for horse threads that are of interest, and MissTargets will now be pinging everyone most mornings. Let MissTargets and/or me know if you would like to be on the ping list. As FreeRepublic is a political site, our politics and other issues will probably blend in . There are many issues for horsemen that touch politics land use, animal rights/abuse cases that make the news . Legislation that might affect horse owners.
So... like the previous threads, this is intended as fun place to come and share stories, pictures, questions and chit-chat, unguided and unmoderated and that we come together here as friends. There are lots of ways of doing things and we all have our quirks, tricks and specialties that are neat to learn about.

New folk and occasional posters, jump right in and introduce yourselves, tell us about your horses, and post pictures if you've got them!
I would be miffed too. It needs to be marked off. Horses shouldn't even be walking over it closed. I hope your shoulder is ok.
My shoulder is pretty sore and Waylon has two cuts on his face, we are lucky it wasn't worse.
Speaking from the people side, you might want to check with your vet and see if Waylon needs anything since he got cut. His head probably hit something else but septic tanks are bacteria hotels.
Good mornin' - boy did it pour all night here :~\
I'm gonna be out in it today clearing my drainage ditch, I can tell.
Where is everyone?:')
I went to the Parelli seminar on Saturday but didn't take any pictures. I was just too far away. It was fun, but nothing I hadn't already seen.
I had a nice ride yesterday but forgot the camera. I rode Blade, but I didn't go anywhere new. Y'all have already seen most of the places I go so you didn't miss anything to speak of. When I got back, I did saddle up Bob and rode him a little ways down the road and back, just to see how he would do and he did fine, aside from being a little spooky, but that's to be expected from a 2yr old that was ridden by a trainer for a month, ridden by me for maybe a half dozen times after that and then hasn't been ridden for a month since. We went by a big scary piece of black plastic on the side of the road and then by some big farm machinery. After that was the commercial chicken house full of cackling chickens, then the farmer's barking dogs. We had lots of stops and starts but managed to make it past it all without incident and without a noticeable limp so I was pleased. I did get a little concerned when we were heading back and heard one of those awful whiney 2-cycle dirt bikes coming down the road so we bailed off the road and into the neighbor's front yard which was full of construction debris from the new house they're building. We made it through that too and got back to our driveway where Tennessee and Blade wanted to race him back to the gate. And he didn't even try to dump me once. I figured he'd have quite a few bucks in him, if for no other reason than it was cool, but he didn't. I even got him to negotiate closing the pasture gate with me on him and it was the first time we'd ever tried it, so I was really tickled. {Now you watch, since I bragged on him, he'll dump me the next time.}
This is all along the front of our property where I burned last year, except for the one of our barn.

Wow! you do have pretty color!
I've never been much for fall color here, because all our native trees aren't real good for color... the maples are pretty, with their huge yellow leaves, but our most numerous deciduous tree, the alder, just sortof turns sickly brown in fall :~D
I love the color of the pretty reds and oranges and bright yellows we see on ornamental trees. Yours are really pretty. Are those Oaks?
Sounds like he's coming along really nicely.
I'm gonna guess you'd get him through some touchier places than a stranger would, because you raised him. You have credibility with him when he's uncertain. I think it makes a difference. It's really good to get him successfully through those situations, because each time you're right, you both know more about the other, and you build trust and confidence in the other. I obsess on that alot lately, as I contemplate having to start over with trust in a new horse someday. I don't wanna!
Oh - and the fact that you've seen all the trails before never stopped me from posting picturse of a new day in the same spot! We don't remember the places like you do, and I'd enjoy them again.
Here! Just not doin' much that's horsey...
ecurbh's taking me up to a custom shoe place tonight so I can see about getting some shoes I can work in without the heel pain I've had. I'm not getting better wearing the shoes I've had, even with the little arch supports we got.
I need to be able to walk again.
They are mostly oak and hickory.
This is the first year in a long long time I remember seeing this much color in the trees. I guess weather conditions have to do with how much color you get. Usually they just go from green to drab brown.
Yesterday a hickory tree in my front yard was bright bright yellow very pretty, today is brown....it's amazing how fast it changes. I bet it's at it's peak right now for prettiness.

Oh my, I hope you get the foot pain resolved. That can't be much fun at all.
Bobs a good boy but if he ever sees that picture you post around here of him on his back, you are gonna be in for a rough ride:')
Oh, those trees are beautiful. They won't grow here.
Did you get new shoes? Tonight I have the house all to myself and wouldn't you know it would be halloween. The munchkins are getting older. I have had a lot of teenagers and one guy that looked like he was in his 20's. Some of the little kids from the church I go to just came by. They were so cute. The little ones and kids in bible costumes get extra. I had cowboy and cowgirls on that list but I just had a couple come by. One was about 6 feet tall! Lot's of spidermen out.
A few hours late but finally here, present and accounted for :)
He did really wonderfully - congratulations.
Wow, gorgeous color there.
