LOL.. Well I'd be pissed to if I died, but I still loved the riding part. But to tell the truth I'm always more worried about the people I run into at times more then I'm worried about what the horse will do. Don't you think horses actually act better when they are by themselves?
Of course the worst fall I took I was by myself and the horse was the problem that time. That's the fall that finally scared me and got me back into the habit of letting someone know where I'd be. The fall hurt enough that it was hard to get back on, but even worse it happend out in the open, not much shade in the middle of a July afternoon. The heat was appalling and that scared me enought to get my butt back in the saddle and head home. It wouldn't take long to croak in that heat. I had water but not alot. I wasn't far from home, but to far to walk. Of course the creek was close...Still I got nervous that day out there.

Oh definitly. I would never hook the gate. Smart move.

Even with my open stalls I always stand at the front and kiss to them till the turn and face me if I have to catch them while they are in there or go in and feed. Rocky throws his feed pan all over and it might be at the back sometimes. He has to face me before I go in and dump the feed.

I forgot to tell you till just now, that Charlie took his paint horse to a jackpot roping Fri night and got 2nd. Won $75. It's the first time Charlie's competed in 2 years, and the first time ever for the horse:)

So's ours.... we bring it with us, but lots of places there's no signal and you'd have to climb to the top of a hill for it to work.
Hey good job on Charlie!
I've been ok so far. Mine turn and come to me without calling and stand to be haltered and stand after I take it off until I'm out. I was trained to bring them in and circle and close the gate, kind of at the same time and to make them stand while I go out 1st. I guess 2 reasons maybe. She doesn't want their butt going by and loose horses in the barn. How do you get yours back in though? I'm assuming you take their halter off before they go in.
Yeah, I take the halter off before they go in. I lead them to the opening into the stall and face them in pull off the halter, and they just go in.

First, this basketball hoop that's been in the way trying to turn around since I moved there, had to go.
Here comes ecurbh through the front gate... It's really tight in the yard, and we were a little skeptical about whether we'd be able to get it turned around in there. (That's why we've been keeping it out by the gate since we got it)
He's got to get it turned around and back on that driveway
Almost around...
We only had to nose into the paddock a little to get it straighted out.
Successfully done! And easier than we thought it would be. We're 2000% better at backing it than we were when we got it.
Cleaned it up real good inside and out...
And tarped it to keep the rain and needles out of it.
It turned out that the cover had fallen off and into the hole.
I am somewhat miffed at the owner, she didn't feel it was all that big a deal.
She didn't think it was a big deal? Did she go look at the hole? I'd think it was a pretty big deal to have a septic tank hole open with horses around.
Sheesh! You're lucky neither of you didn't get more seriously hurt.
I'm glad that you're ok! You have every right to be miffed! Is Waylon ok?
Will do!
My grandkids had their school fair tonight. They had two cute little ponies there. All the kids got a good ride but it took awhile and my son said 30 or so ahead waiting. Mine didn't ride. They questioned the need to wait in line when they could ride Grannies:')
Can't wait to see the new pony.
