The FreeRepublic Saddle Club - Who's Who *pics*

This is a horse chat thread where we share ideas, ask for input from other horsemen, and talk about our riding and horse-keeping. We have a lot of different kinds of riders and horses, and a lot to share. In the previous threads we have had a great time talking through lessons, training, horse lamenesses, illnesses and pregnancies... and always sharing pictures and stories.

I always have a link to this thread on my profile page, so if you have something to say and can't find the thread in latest posts… look for it there and wake the thread up!

I also have a ping list for horse threads that are of interest, and MissTargets will now be pinging everyone most mornings. Let MissTargets and/or me know if you would like to be on the ping list. As FreeRepublic is a political site, our politics and other issues will probably blend in…. There are many issues for horsemen that touch politics… land use, animal rights/abuse cases that make the news…. Legislation that might affect horse owners.

So... like the previous threads, this is intended as fun place to come and share stories, pictures, questions and chit-chat, unguided and unmoderated and that we come together here as friends. There are lots of ways of doing things and we all have our quirks, tricks and specialties that are neat to learn about.

Almost lost my lunch.

About a month ago, my SIL brought home a couple of kittens for the barn. They were semi-wild, and we wanted them to stay that way. But, cute kittens are made to be cuddled and now they are tame, and come up to the house. Fortunately, they are both boy kitties. We feed them out there, and close them up at night. With 3 horses, and 3 rabbits out in the barn, it stays pretty warm in the winter. They should be neutered, before they start spraying everything.

I might have mentioned before, on how the rats ruined my lawn tractor, by chewing the wires and making a nest in the engine compartment. It cost me over $300 to have it fixed, plus back to the shop three times. This year the mower is staying in the garage. A little tight, with my truck in there, but I sure don't want them doing the same thing.

It's gorgeous. I wish I could pull off being Eowyn!

Make sure you take some pictures of your daughter in it!

That is such a cool gown. Now, she can go to the Renaissance festivals.

Sorry doll.

I know our kittens will end up being indoors, but we'd thought about feeding them in the barn so they go there on their free time to hunt.

That's ok, I eat my supper at the pc at home, and saw all those injury pictures...it really doesn't bother me. Can't have a queasy stomach when you have livestock.

All those critters will be seeking a warmer place now.

Yes, too bad, two are definitely better to have. So much fun to watch them play.

Oooooo COOL! It looks like a Renaissance lady's gown. Does it have a hat too? You'll have to take her picture in it and let us see coz I'll bet she'll be gorgeous! I'm really impressed with anybody who can sew. I have a machine and manage to do what I call "Guerrilla Sewing", which consists of mangling stuff together that nobody but me has to see. I've done a few craft projects and stuff like that but nothing elaborate or important. I never took Home EC so I really have no idea what I'm doing.

And like I thought the name is back up for discussion. They are now going for Alex Mack. But that's today:)

I've got to run back to town for some errands, will catch up on all the posts when I get back.

:) I have to admit, I loved raising a boy. Little boys are so cool, frogs and puppy dog tails and all that.

Congratulations!!!

Hey, what about Alexander MacKinley, and you could call him Alex or Mack for short.

I like boys too, I think they are easier:)

I think the only thing about girls that makes them funner (is that a word:), is the dressing them up part.

Jenny liked the name Mack best, that is her dad's nickname:), but Travis likes Alex best. She said she would settle for Alex as long as it was Alex and not Alexander. Not sure why. I think naming babies should be up to the parents and the grandparents should keep their mouths shut about if they like a name or not. Travis liked Mack until his dad said he didn't like it. I'm staying out of this discussion other then I told them maybe scrap both and start over.

When Charlie and Kristy were naming JP, Charlie said he always wanted a kid whose name was initals. He picked JP and then they picked names to fit the initals, Jake Preston. I'm now the only one still calling him JP. Kristy's mother didn't like JP, and calls him Jake and that's what everyone is calling him now. Oh except for Mack he calls him Chester:). Mack started calling him Chester before he was born. I'm sure he's going to come up with a nickname for this one too before long. Mack has always given people nicknames.

My husbands nickname as a kid was Big Mack. He has always been a big guy:), and our last name begans with Mc. That's where the Mack came from.

My son has never had a nickname - he's Adam and it's always been just that. My stepson has been called by a nickname, his first name, his middle name and his initials. I'm surprised sometimes that he knows what his name is :)

Hey, mine does too so I know all about the "Big Mack" thing. My husband's older brother got that handle. Everybody knows him as Mac, except for at work, where he's got another nickname. Men and their nicknames are so funny.

Hey, I'm going to have some good horse pictures tomorrow. My DIL is going to bring the pony they have when she brings JP tomorrow. And a friend of mine who has 2 grandkids just a little older then him is coming too and we are going to give the kids pony rides. One of the kids, a girl about 3 or 4 really likes horses. Depending on her mom, who is coming too, we could pull some of the panels into a small area and let her ride by herself if she is comfortable with that. According to the grandmother she has always wanted to ride by herself so we'll see. It will be entirely up to the mother. What age do you all think a kid could ride a pony by themselves? Probably depends on the pony. Kristy says a friend of hers who has an older kid has ridden the pony by herself and the pony does pretty good.
