This is a horse chat thread where we share ideas, ask for input from other horsemen, and talk about our riding and horse-keeping. We have a lot of different kinds of riders and horses, and a lot to share. In the previous threads we have had a great time talking through lessons, training, horse lamenesses, illnesses and pregnancies... and always sharing pictures and stories.
I always have a link to this thread on my profile page, so if you have something to say and can't find the thread in latest posts look for it there and wake the thread up!
I also have a ping list for horse threads that are of interest, and MissTargets will now be pinging everyone most mornings. Let MissTargets and/or me know if you would like to be on the ping list. As FreeRepublic is a political site, our politics and other issues will probably blend in . There are many issues for horsemen that touch politics land use, animal rights/abuse cases that make the news . Legislation that might affect horse owners.
So... like the previous threads, this is intended as fun place to come and share stories, pictures, questions and chit-chat, unguided and unmoderated and that we come together here as friends. There are lots of ways of doing things and we all have our quirks, tricks and specialties that are neat to learn about.

New folk and occasional posters, jump right in and introduce yourselves, tell us about your horses, and post pictures if you've got them!
I've got 2 great nephews that are wild as bucks and rough as cobs and 1 great niece that is the most girly girl in the world and She holds her own with them just fine. She's got that "I'm the Queen of the World and you'll do what I say" routine down pat. They don't of course, but that don't keep her from trying to make them. It's real fun to watch.
Well you can't blame her for that. That would freak out most any horse I know. Have you picked out a name yet? You still leaning towards "Midnight" something?
Neither Depomedrol nor Prednisone did a thing for Grace. Hopefully you'll have better luck. Didja ever try any of that "Calm Coat" stuff I told you about? It seemed to work for Grace. Either that or maybe just the fact that her coat was getting thicker and keeping the bugs off better did it. Or maybe it was the cooler weather. I don't know, but what ever it was, she's better.
Hey Hair! What have ya heard from Ruthy lately? I've been seeing all the nastiness on the news about the lack of basic necessities down there and have been worrying about her.
Yes, I talked to her yesterday. She still doesn't have power at home, but she does at work, so she's been having to go in to the office!
The thing she was worried about was gas. The stations that have power are running out of gas, and the stations without power had gas but no way to pump it. Anyhow... gas is hard to find and so she's trying to avoid driving too much, but she still needs to make a few trips a day.
Our other friend down there, Sam Cree, has power back on, and he said their restoring power by the 10s of thousands at a time, so hopefully soon.
I have been at FR almost since the beginning but just found this thread a few months ago. I love reading your stories but haven't had much time lately. We just moved from Texas to the Ozarks last month. First move in 30 years so it has really been an experience!
We have six minature donkeys, four very small shetlands, an Arabian, an Arabian/QH and two Missouri Foxtrotters.
I'll post pics soon. One of the Foxtrotters is the love of my life. All the others are my husbands pets. Any other Foxtrotter owners out there?
Welcome, I look forward to pictures of all of yours... I appreciate your sentiment about your horse. I have one like that too.
The donkeys and shetlands have to be just cute as can be!
A boy and a girl :) Does she have other children? When is she due?
Well I'll bet that's fun having to heat water on the gas grill (if she's even got one) to take a bath so she can go to work. What about her daughter? I'd heard that a lot of the schools are closed. Hopefully she's got somebody to watch her while Ruthy's at work.
The gas shortage would worry me too. You'd think that the stations with gas but no power could bring in a generator to run the pumps. Even the people who have generators at home will be running out of gas too if the situation doesn't get better soon. It just sounds like a nightmare!
Looking forward to pictures.
Not sure on school, it didn't come up. The thing I can't comprehend is that all this happens when it's really warm out. When have bad storms and lose power, it's always when it's super cold out, sometimes with snow and ice and freezing pipes and all.
I said the same thing about firing up the gas stations with a generator.... if there's a buck to be made I'd guess people would try to make it!
Gorgeous gown!
Well better late than never! Welcome to the thread, we're glad you found us and decided to jump on in.
I don't envy your move, but I envy your location. I'll bet the Ozarks are gorgeous this time of year. I don't think there are any active posters on the thread that have Foxtrotters, but I've got a TWH and a bunch of Racking Horses and Estrogen has a Rocky Mountain Horse, so there are a few of us gaited horse folks on here to spar with all these A-rab and QH types. ;o)
This is a rat, not a mouse, right?
This sucker drowned in Bay's water bucket in the barn last night.
The little field mice we usually find in the barn are dinky things, about the size of my thumb.
It evidently caused quite a bit of upset from the general disarray in the pony's stall. She ripped her feeder off the wall.
We've had a number of mice drown in their stall buckets, and I don't like it. Not that the mice die, that's OK, but that it means the horses won't/can't/shouldn't have access to their water.
So I think I'll put escape ropes on the inside buckets as well.
I NEED MY NEW KITTENS!
Heh... be glad you don't live here! We get it both ways. Tornadoes when it's hot and ice storms with it's cold. Just lovely! But it's home, so I can't complain... too much. ;o)
We really enjoy pictures and hearing all about your horses, donkeys, dogs, cats, kids, what ever..lol
Man, you're brave picking him up like that. I must be a total wuss.
"Gorgeous gown!"
I knew you'd like it. It came from a pattern of LOTR's dresses.
I'm not as creeped out by them dead as I am when they're alive.
