Yes, it is creepy!

\Do you remember that old movie, with Donmald Sutherland, about the Pod people taking over the world and there was a dog with a man's head that was barking?

Ewww, why do I scare myself....

Otherwise tuffy's pics are super/

G'morning Rose! I like your description of the Vet's facility. I'm not familiar with the area you are talking about, but it sounds believeable for a successful vet practice in a rural area that is fairly close to a larger metro area. My vet has his clinic built next to his house and has quite a bit of acreage in pasture as a result, but the actual clinic itself is quite small, with only one exam room. The kennel is quite small too and the surgery is just a small alcove off to the side. There are 3 or 4 stalls for horses attached via a breezeway and a stanchion outside under the porch. He has a nice new metal barn with a cattle sweep and pivoting head catch table for working on cows. There are also some stalls in that barn. He does have x-ray and ultrasound equipment for large animals but I'm not sure how up-to-date it is. As you could see from my picture, for horses that can be brought to the clinic, quite a bit of his work is done on the grassy area beside the clinic, but for the ones that can't it has to be done on the farms where they live. He's told me quite a few funny stories about some of his farm calls.

...I guess he has a few grey hairs right on his wither too, but I don't think those are anything... He's got a few misc grey hairs all over. Do you think?

Those gray hairs on the right side may be part of the problem too but I think it's weird for the spot on the left to be so prominent but the one on the right to be so light. You must either put alot of weight in your left stirrup or he's got alot more muscle developement on that side or the saddle is warped or something. Weird!

The un-evenness of it is a head scratcher, I agree.

...Do you know how these injuries happened?

I really don't know. It happened sometime between the time I left the barn one evening and the time I got there the next afternoon, but my guess is that the dominant horse in the group ran Bob into the corner of an old castiron bathtub that my father-in-law had left turned upside down beside the barn. That would be about the right height, but I'm really just guessing.

...They got into a turf battle. Henkell is usually very respectful of fences but forgot how close he was and kicked out and through the fence. He got his left hind hung over one strand and just torn off all the flesh trying to get free. It was a metal post and cable fence...

That's exactly what happened to Grace but she was lucky and got out without any major damage. It was a barbed wire and t-post fence and she bent several posts and loosened the wire quite a bit getting out. The fact that the wire wasn't that tight and the t-posts gave is probably the only thing that saved her. It's minor compaired to Henkell, but this is what her injury looked like...

It happened a couple of months ago and you can barely tell it now. I realize now by reading about Henkell that it could've been SO much worse.

The dogs are carefully watching the procedure and saying "Glad it ain't me, Doc!"

Actually, wait till she tells you the real punch line... ;~D

LOL! Actually the dogs were waiting with baited breath for the aforementioned noogies to be nipped and thrown. They never even hit the ground, and probably hardly hit the backs of their throats. Yummmmm! ;o)

Grace's injuries were less severe because the tpost and barbed wire gave way. You were lucky though that she didn't get all tangled up in the wire. I have seen some horrendous injuries from barb wire.

That steel cable doesn't give one bit so Henkell was just chewed up as he tried to get loose.

My vet always wears black jeans and a scrub top. He says the black jeans show less blood and crap than anything else. The color of the scrub top varies. He wears work boots too, probably steel toes, to keep hosses and cows from stompin' his toes.

Yep, I agree with you 100% about the high-tensile wire not being the most ideal horse fence. I've had several vets tell me about horrible injuries they've seen done to horses by it. It acts just like a giant cheeze cutter and slices off huge chunks of flesh when they hit it. Barbed wire ain't exactly the fence of choice for horses either, and given the choice, I wouldn't use it or hi-tensile either, but I guess we gotta play with the cards we're dealt. I'd rather have the electrified rope type fence if I was putting it up new.

Good morning :)

Most of the time she wore short sleeve coveralls and work boots. About the same thing my mobile vet wears now except he wears cowboy boots.

Tuffy's pics are super, but that first one is the stuff of nightmares I tell you. I have seen that movie that you're talking about. Heh. This one is funnier, but did you ever see Mars Attacks, where they put the lady's head on a chihuahua? (and yes, I had to use spell check for that)

Good afternoon everyone:)

Hair, do you know anyone who hasn't thought about writing at some time or other:) I've tried my hand at childrens stories mostly. I thought NaNo might be fun.

I've been cleaning out my garden this morning. Everything died because of the frost. So I cleared it all out, cut the morning glories down, and started hauling manure up from the barn to help build my soil for next year.

It is now warm enough to ride a bit. Soooooo, if I can get the energy/ambition up I'll head out in a bit.

Mack and I shopped yesterday for window. We want to replace the window in this house this year....

That's about it for what's going on around here.

Becky

Well, I don't think I've ever thought about writing a novel! I kid around with the HH folks about NaNo being a cult, but they do have fun with it :~D

It's sunny here, but I'm working all day here - I can only slack off so long and then I binge a 15 hour day. I guess it works out OK in the end. But there'll not be much horsey happening here.

We've not been near frost lately... in fact I'd say it's warmer than usual night-time temps, in the upper forties.
