This is a horse chat thread where we share ideas, ask for input from other horsemen, and talk about our riding and horse-keeping. We have a lot of different kinds of riders and horses, and a lot to share. In the previous threads we have had a great time talking through lessons, training, horse lamenesses, illnesses and pregnancies... and always sharing pictures and stories.
I always have a link to this thread on my profile page, so if you have something to say and can't find the thread in latest posts look for it there and wake the thread up!
I also have a ping list for horse threads that are of interest, and MissTargets will now be pinging everyone most mornings. Let MissTargets and/or me know if you would like to be on the ping list. As FreeRepublic is a political site, our politics and other issues will probably blend in . There are many issues for horsemen that touch politics land use, animal rights/abuse cases that make the news . Legislation that might affect horse owners.
So... like the previous threads, this is intended as fun place to come and share stories, pictures, questions and chit-chat, unguided and unmoderated and that we come together here as friends. There are lots of ways of doing things and we all have our quirks, tricks and specialties that are neat to learn about.

New folk and occasional posters, jump right in and introduce yourselves, tell us about your horses, and post pictures if you've got them!
Yup. As ready as I'm gonna be.
One of my sisters has been convinced to come and ride it out here with our mom. The other one is ~almost~ convinced.
Laundry and showers are the only thing left to take care of before landfall in the morning.
3 loads left. :-D
I don't know what it is but every time we are in the cone I get the urge to cook and clean house:') Don't forget to fill the tubs and washing machine up with water when you get done.
Oh I forgot. I wanted to share something that happened today that I though was interesting. I was cleaning Sarah Lees feet today and I got clutsy and dropped my pick. I moved to get it and she put her front foot down, right on top of mine. When we both felt pressure we looked at each other. She's looking at me like what do I do and I'm "telling her please don't step down, baby girl". I told her "foot up" but she just stood there like she wasn't sure so I pulled on hair and she lifted it up. I thought that was very smart of her (and lucky for me). I don't know if she realized that it could hurt me but she knew that things were not "right"
Ready for what?
Probably nothing. I just put your name in because both of these storms could bring yall more rain. Maybe they will hook north though.
Well I just got back from the barn after a great ride. Tammy was being a loon, however, for most of the time. My trainer's sons were paintballing out in the woods and that was freaking the horse out like no tomorrow. She was throwing a fit on the crossties, refused to stand still, and kept swinging her butt towards me, and stepping on herself and kicking out. She was perfectly fine until she was in the barn, and she was fine again once we got back outside. My feeling is that once she was on the crossties, she felt trapped. After I rode, and my trainer was done with other lessons, I helped her bring in the horses and get them settled for the night. It was a good day.
Oh the hurricane. Yeah, we're supposed to get hit with a lot of wind and some rain. They've put up weather advisories since yesterday. The last thing that we need is more rain, and I'm wondering if the Taunton dam will REALLY hold up this time. They just opened up the city on Friday.
Well, let's pray they go out to sea.
What's the purpose of using cross ties? I always just tie mine to a pole or panel.
We're supposed to get a half inch of what they're calling "soaking rain" on Monday night and the rain keeps going Tuesday into Wednesday.
Thanks for reminding me.
Cross ties clip to either side of their halter. It also doesn't give them "as much" freedom of movement, though after today I'll challenge that myself.
Just what yall need, huh?
Yeah I know but is it to keep a horse still that won't stand?
They allow you to move all around the horse, and keep the horse from being able to singe around from side to side, or circle, like they can if they're tied to a pole.
We don't here. I don't know why. Maybe space. We are trained to make them stand and if the move to make them back where they were.
What Hair said. :-)
Well, if you're going to say what I said, I'd fix the typo ;~D
Oh, I don't know. I think I would rather have them singing than slinging:')
It was supposed to be swinging... ;~D
