This is a horse chat thread where we share ideas, ask for input from other horsemen, and talk about our riding and horse-keeping. We have a lot of different kinds of riders and horses, and a lot to share. In the previous threads we have had a great time talking through lessons, training, horse lamenesses, illnesses and pregnancies... and always sharing pictures and stories.
I always have a link to this thread on my profile page, so if you have something to say and can't find the thread in latest posts look for it there and wake the thread up!
I also have a ping list for horse threads that are of interest, and MissTargets will now be pinging everyone most mornings. Let MissTargets and/or me know if you would like to be on the ping list. As FreeRepublic is a political site, our politics and other issues will probably blend in . There are many issues for horsemen that touch politics land use, animal rights/abuse cases that make the news . Legislation that might affect horse owners.
So... like the previous threads, this is intended as fun place to come and share stories, pictures, questions and chit-chat, unguided and unmoderated and that we come together here as friends. There are lots of ways of doing things and we all have our quirks, tricks and specialties that are neat to learn about.

New folk and occasional posters, jump right in and introduce yourselves, tell us about your horses, and post pictures if you've got them!
Good morning, and hope the cold passes soon. Becky. It's miserable bein' sick, especially when there's stuff you're supposed to be doing.
Wow Tuffy! Can't wait to see pictures! Talk about an impulse buy!
Good morning. Cold and overcast here. It's only supposed to get up to fifty, and it's starting to get dark earlier and earlier. I hate this time of the year. We had a freak thunderstorm last night. It was neat. If the weather holds out today, I'm going to the barn come hell or high water. (Literally in my case! Ha!)
congrats! She sounds lovely.
How about:
Easy at Midnight
Midnight Gal
Midnight Harlequin
I'm fixing to post a picture. Yall look at Sarah Lee's ears,ok?
Ya Hoo! I'm playing with the big girls now:')
Sure... I'm here.
LOL When you said 'look at her ears', I thought you thought she had a fungus or something! ;~D
It's a pretty good view from up there! Did you go far? Got more?
I don't know. Eddie and I got there about 8:30 and left around 12. We stayed on the grounds and took them around all kinds of boogie areas, rode the roads , went up and down little hills and stuff. We wanted to go out by the canal but couldn't figure out how manage the gates. Working on that. I have some arena pictures of Eddie on Okie but I didn't take any more out riding. I forgot about it! lol
Understood about the gates... that's tricky. You'd have to find a place to remount. Glad you got to ride.
Eddie looking for a tree stump or something he can put out there but I want to learn how to do it without getting off.
How easy it is depends on how well you can get the horse to move in any direction on cue, and how the gate is latched.
We are going to work on the arena gate probably next weekend. They turn and stand really good. They both hate leaving and like coming home though so I want to have it down pat before going to the outside gate.
The latch might be a small obstacle. I'll have to lean down because it's a chain on a nail. Easy to get off , probably a pain in the butt to put back though.
Can they sidpass?
Just be careful... when you're leanin' down like that and the horse is fidgeting or you hit her with the gate and she jumps... it can be a little tricky... but fabulous control practice. Just remember: when forced to choose, LET GO of the gate ;~D
sidpass?
Side pass...
Will they move over sideways under saddle?
Oh. Okie will. He snorts a little bit to let me know it's not his favorite direction but he does it. Sarah Lee is learning.
Are you ready? Where's Cowboy? I t's probably just a variance but did you see the one model that has Fred (Alpha) going to Florida too.
