This is a horse chat thread where we share ideas, ask for input from other horsemen, and talk about our riding and horse-keeping. We have a lot of different kinds of riders and horses, and a lot to share. In the previous threads we have had a great time talking through lessons, training, horse lamenesses, illnesses and pregnancies... and always sharing pictures and stories.
I always have a link to this thread on my profile page, so if you have something to say and can't find the thread in latest posts look for it there and wake the thread up!
I also have a ping list for horse threads that are of interest, and MissTargets will now be pinging everyone most mornings. Let MissTargets and/or me know if you would like to be on the ping list. As FreeRepublic is a political site, our politics and other issues will probably blend in . There are many issues for horsemen that touch politics land use, animal rights/abuse cases that make the news . Legislation that might affect horse owners.
So... like the previous threads, this is intended as fun place to come and share stories, pictures, questions and chit-chat, unguided and unmoderated and that we come together here as friends. There are lots of ways of doing things and we all have our quirks, tricks and specialties that are neat to learn about.

New folk and occasional posters, jump right in and introduce yourselves, tell us about your horses, and post pictures if you've got them!
Too bad.
LOL.........pe-can!
We have pinenuts around here, not as tall, not as stately, but pretty good if that's all you've got.
Hi,
You ranch is in beautiful country. Hope you get there soon. :)
Endurance ride today and just got home. I only crew and I'm beat. I don't know what Sonny's placing is today, but I think not too good. We were 15minutes late at the starting line and asked an out of shape horse to do 30 miles up and down hills. Tacey took it easy with him and he vetted in mid way and at the end with A's and one B but he was tired.
Tomorrow Tracey and Bob go out on an endurance ride (easier one in that it's less hills). Tracey is going to ride her mare and Bob will ride the Ghost. I get to crew all by myself :( Miss Targets, that Arab is gorgeous. Hair, you really ought give a thought to getting Cyn into endurance, I'll bet she'd do really well in it.
What an exotic-looking picture of Cyn!
The blur in the photo of Bay gives it a dreamlike quality, IMHO.
Well, good luck tomorrow crewing two by yourself :~D
Bring your camera! We'd like to see!
Cyn might very well do well in endurance... not sure ecurbh will :~D Perhaps later on, when I have a fresh horse, we might do either endurance or some CTRs for fun, we'll see!
What are your duties when you "crew"?
We're trying to remember the actress with the bangs over one eye - sexy old movie days... That's what she reminds me of.
We're off for dinner out :~D
Back later!
Meet them at the finish with same routine. It's not really that difficult (except four wheeling to the mid point) but with the fibro, I get really tired.
Sounds fun though. And what a nice thought for hot and tired people and horses to know Mom is just up ahead with drinks and food. ...Just a little bit further :')
Did you go to the lake?
Ya'll aren't going to believe what I did today. One of my husband's friends called and said there was a ranch dispersal auction sale up in Gaineville and the horses were going very cheaply. Seems the owner of the ranch was killed in a car wreck (the ranch was in oklahoma, I'll have to find the name for Becky) and his son couldn't take care of his horses. I bought a gorgeous black and white paint filly, 6 months old, zero training, for $625. The stud colts were going for as little as $200 but I wanted a filly.
Oh, and one of my barn cats that has been missing for months showed back up tonight. What an interesting day its been.
I'll try to post pics of the filly tomorrow.
Will you train her yourself?
I will up until the moment it's time to step up into the saddle. I'll leave that to the professionals.
WOW! Can't wait to see pics, tuffy!
The horses were wild as march hares. I guess they've just been pasture breeders with little to no human contact. My husband's friend bought a trained ranch gelding for $700, then had a heck of time getting him into the trailer. We put my filly in next, (from a chute) and she hopped right in. I haven't been able to touch her but tonight I sat in her stall, just visiting with her, and she ate hay out of my hands. She's definitely looking for a friend since she was weaned TODAY.
Poor girl.
She's lucky to have you then. :-D
I'm gonna hit the bed early tonight. I'm worn out from hurricane prep.
You name her yet?
