The FreeRepublic Saddle Club - Who's Who *pics*

This is a horse chat thread where we share ideas, ask for input from other horsemen, and talk about our riding and horse-keeping. We have a lot of different kinds of riders and horses, and a lot to share. In the previous threads we have had a great time talking through lessons, training, horse lamenesses, illnesses and pregnancies... and always sharing pictures and stories.

I always have a link to this thread on my profile page, so if you have something to say and can't find the thread in latest posts… look for it there and wake the thread up!

I also have a ping list for horse threads that are of interest, and MissTargets will now be pinging everyone most mornings. Let MissTargets and/or me know if you would like to be on the ping list. As FreeRepublic is a political site, our politics and other issues will probably blend in…. There are many issues for horsemen that touch politics… land use, animal rights/abuse cases that make the news…. Legislation that might affect horse owners.

So... like the previous threads, this is intended as fun place to come and share stories, pictures, questions and chit-chat, unguided and unmoderated and that we come together here as friends. There are lots of ways of doing things and we all have our quirks, tricks and specialties that are neat to learn about.

Zip was not blind when Lyons started training him, although because he (Zip) trusted Lyons, he could ask him to do just about anything. Unique relationship between them.

Bright Zip was totally blind from a reaction to meds he was given.

I take it back, I think it was an antibiotic reaction. At any rate, it was a reaction to meds that Zip was given that made him totally blind.

"And the case of Bright Zip is a good one. He went blind after a nearly fatal reaction to getting a vaccination. This horse could still be ridden with no bridle during some events, due to cues and communication. "

Off some website I found.

I'm finally caught up and I loved all the pictures but I can't remember who posted what :)

Cyn has really filled out. Ick on the spider but the grey is really nice looking. Love the picture of Charlie (?) roping. Empress, you look great at the show. Hope everyone is doing well and our Florida members are getting out of Dodge. Oh, the Scottish Broom is a lot like our Rabbit Brush which is horrid, all over and everyone is allergic to it. It's just not quite so tall.

I agree with both of you that saddle time essential. I just think there is a place for both. That's what we do here. We talk. We learn. We share. I have found some very valuable tips and instructions in some of my horse books. I can't comment about the videos though because I haven't seen any..

Thanks for the info about Bright Zip. Reaction to medication huh? That would make me pretty sick and sad. I was surprised it seemed hard to find any articles about him or what happened, only forum comments. I failed in my Google. ;~D

I'm hurting. I went to get on my saddle. The step stool I usually use wasn't there. This one wasn't more shorter though, so no big deal. I could not get my foot in my stirrip. Eddie was watching and Ialways want to do so good when he's there but I couldn't reach the stirrup. I finaally hauled my foot up and something just didn't seem right and I came back down. I'm looking really bad now and I go to try again and went up but could not get my leg over the horse and pulled my right calf muscle. By this time my trainer was out there and I was embarressed and she was p/o. Someone , it seems borrowed my saddle and let my stirrups all the way down. I checked everything else. I can't believe I didn't notice this but I didn't think about because I have them set.

Oh, that would get me ticked. It's bad enough to 'borrow' someone else's tack without asking, but to not leave it in the condition it was found in... that's purely inconsiderate.

I don't think Lyons' a fraud. I admit I've never seen his videos or been to a clinic of his before. I did get good results and new understanding from his book. It's prolly more an issue of overediting video tapes.

Oh, I would have a fit if someone borrowed my saddle. :) Bob doesn't even dare without letting me know.

I agree, I think he's a very good trainer. I have seen problems with a neighbor who watched his tape and then put things into practice (wrongly) but I think it's a lack of common sense on neighbor's part and a lack of complete explanation on Lyons part.

I left work at 4 to get a jump start. Everybody eating. I know I can make them do what I want to but they really enjoy meal time and I didn't see a need to pull them out.

Look Ruth. Sarah's running buddy is sticking her tongue out at me. I didn't notice at the time. Yall are looking at the boss, and the "yeah what Sarah Lee says" one and I don't know about the 3rd one. I guess she felt safer with me around. Usually these two "own" the trough.

Besides, if you pull them out, they'll miss dinner. In community pastures, anyone missing at mealtime loses out.
