This is a horse chat thread where we share ideas, ask for input from other horsemen, and talk about our riding and horse-keeping. We have a lot of different kinds of riders and horses, and a lot to share. In the previous threads we have had a great time talking through lessons, training, horse lamenesses, illnesses and pregnancies... and always sharing pictures and stories.
I always have a link to this thread on my profile page, so if you have something to say and can't find the thread in latest posts look for it there and wake the thread up!
I also have a ping list for horse threads that are of interest, and MissTargets will now be pinging everyone most mornings. Let MissTargets and/or me know if you would like to be on the ping list. As FreeRepublic is a political site, our politics and other issues will probably blend in . There are many issues for horsemen that touch politics land use, animal rights/abuse cases that make the news . Legislation that might affect horse owners.
So... like the previous threads, this is intended as fun place to come and share stories, pictures, questions and chit-chat, unguided and unmoderated and that we come together here as friends. There are lots of ways of doing things and we all have our quirks, tricks and specialties that are neat to learn about.

New folk and occasional posters, jump right in and introduce yourselves, tell us about your horses, and post pictures if you've got them!
I would reccomend using 2 quarts of Round-up per acre to kill everything-then reseed using a no till drill.Do it in the spring since it's too late to seed now and I wouldn't want the groung to be bare in the winter, too much danger of erosion.
I've never heard of a no till drill???? Is it something you can get anywhere?

You might want to test the PH of the soil, and lime if needed. If the soil is acid then most of the fertilizer is not available to the grass.Lime is about the cheapest and most overlooked input to good plant growth.
Don't get hit by lightning :~\
Ruthy's gonna get hit by this hurricane, I wish she'd get out of there.
Really, well I guess it's been awhile since I watched the news. I didn't realize another hurricaine was on the way.
Stay safe Ruthy.
I ran out and did my night feeding so I'd miss the rain. I don't have to go outside again tonight:)

It's neat that they are learning from each other.
I guess it's essential to build that one-on-one relationship right off the bat to finally reach that "horse-n-rider-as-1" thing.
I'm still holding on to hope that Wilma fizzles out.
She's still a few days away. *fingers crossed*
I've never seen that weed here in Ohio.Try about 3 or 4 ounces of 46%Round-up in 2 gallons of water and spot spray that ugly weed! That should kill about any weed.If you try it,please let me know how it works.
Ok, I see it now in the breaking news. I've been overlooking it.
Becky
I'll hope that too Ruthy! It's doing weird things.
For a few hours, one of the models was showing it hanging around the Yucatan and then shooting straight left through the Isle of Youth under Cuba.
It's shifted back up to us again, but it just goes to show how quickly things can change.
I don't want anyone to have to face this beast, so I'll just pray it blows itself out.
In our area the no till drills can be rented by the acre. The no till drills work by preping a narrow band of soil for each row using large straight discs. The row spacing is about 10 inches between rows, the preped band of soil is maybe an inch and a half wide.
You have mail : )
Have just been watching on ABC, Monty Roberts using his passion and understanding of horses to help wayward children in a school to calm down and trust the teachers etc. Very interesting stuff.
Is he runnin' the kids in a round pen? ;~D
Not quite but he's cured a few of bucking! LOL
What show is it? I didn't see anything like that on our schedule.
It must have finished at midnight but it was on ABC and he is doing a world tour promoting the Monty way of disciplining and helping kids achieve their goals. It was good watching. If you go on ABCs website it should say something about it.
G'night for now.
Very nice pictures being posted.
The Extreme Makeover-Home Addition, family received their new home yesterday. The show will be aired November 27th.
"Extreme Makeover² host Ty Pennington, left, gives a high five to Gerry Morley, mother-in-law of Jeff Novak, as she arrives Wednesday to see their new home in Boardman."
What happened?
